From the Principal’s Desk Lake Keepit Excursion and Great Aussie Bush Camp This morning some of our Year 3 and Year 4 students set off for Lake Keepit NSW Sport and Recreation Camp. Our students and teachers will have a great experience while away at camp, taking part in archery, canoeing, high ropes and many more activities. As it has been Year 4’s second time to Lake Keepit they may experience new challenges that are usually for older students. I am hopeful that they have a great trip as I know many were very excited to be going away. We were fortunate enough to be able to reschedule the Great Aussie Bush Camp and our students will set off on the 2 – 4 December 2019. Miss Wellham and Miss Mackaway will be joining the students. The students will enjoy team building activities like raft building, crate climbing and orienteering. Thank you once again to our parents for your understanding and support regarding our school excursions. Leaders 2020 Last week, Year 5 and staff voted for the students who will hold a leadership position in 2020. There were ten students selected for the opportunity to stand for a Captain or Officer position. Year 5 were informed of their successful candidates at a Year 5 only assembly. The 10 candidates for School Leaders in 2020 are: Samuel Durie Walt Flanagan Jack Goodwin Tobias Pollard Lachlan Stenner Sophie Boorer Alexandra Frith Ruby Owen Alexis Slater Pollyanna Thibault I would like to congratulate the successful candidates and also those students who nominated themselves to be included in the vote. All candidates should be extremely proud of themselves for having the courage and confidence to be part of the leadership process. Please take note of the details further in the newsletter regarding when and where the School Leader and House Captain speeches will take place. Pool Fees Just a reminder that students of Quirindi Public School do not have to pay a fee to enter the Quirindi Pool. This will remain in place until the 31 December 2019. It is unclear as to whether or not this will continue in 2020. But we will certainly let you know if this is the case. Intensive Swimming Next week our Intensive Swimming Program will commence. For two consecutive weeks, students will have swimming lessons at the pool. The program is centred on teaching children water safety and lifesaving skills, stroke development and stroke correction. The improvement in students’ abilities and confidence over the two weeks is wonderful. Students are asked to wear their swimmers to school underneath their uniform so minimal time is spent on changing and more time is spent in the pool. Kirsty Matthews – Relieving Principal School Leader/House Captain Speeches – Timetable Due to a clash of activities on our school calendar we are needing to move the date of our School Leader Speeches. Previously the date was set on Wednesday 27 November 2019, it will now happen on Thursday 28 November 2019. State Athletics State Athletics was held at Homebush two weeks ago. Seven athletes from Quirindi Public School competed in the North West team. Alexis Slater gave the ‘Acknowledgement of Country’ in the opening ceremony which was a wonderful privilege. Sick Bay We have had a number of children at sick bay with vomiting, diarrhoea, colds and coughs! Please ensure you keep your child and any siblings at home for at least 24 -48 hours and discuss personal hygiene particularly washing hands with them. This is a highly contagious virus and your assistance would be very much appreciated.

Lost Property Once again our basket is overflowing with clothing that cannot be returned to the rightful owners as the articles are not labelled. If you think your child may have lost clothing this term, please come to the office to look through the lost property. Families are most welcome to come and claim anything without a name as their own. All unclaimed clothing will be sent to a local charity shop at the end of next week.

Library As we near the end of the school year, can everyone have a good look around the house for any library books that may have been borrowed during the year. We have a large number of outstanding long-term overdue library books. These are essential resources for our school and we’d love for them to be returned. If you come across any of our library books over the next few weeks, can you please place them in the returns box in the library. NEXT WEEK IS THE LAST WEEK FOR BORROWING!

K-2 Christmas Shopping It is that wonderful time of year again when many of us are preparing for Christmas. K-2 has a tradition of offering Christmas shopping to all of their students. This initiative is not only lots of fun for the children but it also provides us with funds for purchasing resources to be utilised in K-2. We appreciate the tough times that have hit a lot of our families due to the ongoing drought and are therefore not asking you to supply the gifts this year. We will however accept any donations you are happy to make. When: Friday 6 December Time: Allocated times during

the day to be advised We are asking for parent/carer volunteers to help on the day. Their job will be to sell the presents which will then be wrapped by the Year 6 students. We will send out a note closer to the day, informing you when your child’s class will be going shopping. That way you can help during your child’s shopping time if you would like to.
