PETER DOHERTY AUCTION EVENING
Wednesday 11th May, 7-9pm
The Cob Gallery, 205 Royal College St, London, NW1 0SG
www.cobgallery.com - www.gutsforgarters.com
Due to popular demand Guts for Garters and The Cob Gallery present an auction featuring the artwork and personal belongings of Peter Doherty.
Select items from Doherty's work and life will be available to the public, including his iconic
military jackets, notebooks, and his collaboration with Amy Winehouse; the blood painting,
'Ladylike'. These items were not for sale during 'On Blood' due to the difficulty in pricing such
personal works and belongings. However, due to unprecedented interest, we are now presented
these works to the open market for the first time, allowing fans and collectors alike to determine
price. Doherty’s artistic production is driven by a desire to spurn convention in favour of a bohemian
ideal. It has seen him become the centre of an enduring public fascination. The tabloid press,
documentary makers, and popular culture blogs have all peered in, offering varying accounts of
what they wanted to see; yet the most sincere indictment of this well known figure is the one he
offers of himself. In this auction Doherty offers up some of his most personal belongings
including a bureau with inscribed carved messages and in blood, and notebooks with original
workings of famous lyrics. The paintings up for auction also chart Doherty's close artisticrelationships. A percentage of all sales will go to the Amy Winehouse foundation. For any other
enquiries please contact [email protected].
