Garbage Collection - Items Accepted1. Household waste2. Grass clippings/leaves3. Small amounts of construction material (defined as what fits in a 40 gallon
garbage container with the lid on)4. Furniture and appliances (All Freon from refrigerators/freezers/air conditioners/
dehumidifers must be recycled and a sticker verifying must be placed on the item and visible)
5. Carpet must be cut no wider than 2 feet & the length bundled with tape or twine
To dispose of tree waste & shrubs, call Public Works to schedule a collection, 724-941-6161.

Paper Recycling The alternative way to recycle your office paper, junk mail, magazines and otherpaper waste is to use the Paper Retriever bins that can be found at many locationswithin Peters, including the Library parking lot, entrance to Peterswood Park, andour schools and churches. To find the Paper Retriever recycling bin closest to you,log on to their website at www.paperretriever.com.
Electronic Recycling Waste Management will no longer accept electronics during garbage pickup.Please recycle all electronics at the Public Works garage M-F from 7:30am-3:00pm.For a complete list of electronic items to recycle, log on to www.peterstownship.com

All residences have been issued one (1) new 65-gallon cart with a hinged lid, wheels, and Peters Township log in which to place their recyclables. Residents must use this cart to recycle. The carts are the property of Peters Township and are to remain with the dwelling to which they are assigned.¢ Residents may purchase an additional recycling bin for a one time fee of $50. If a cart is damaged or lost, please call the Municipal Building at 724-941-4180.

BURNING:All open burning is restricted to four daysper week – Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays andSaturdays – and only from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Firesmust be attended to at all times. No noxious trashburning is permitted. No burning in the commercial orindustrial districts of the township is allowed. Buildersand developers must obtain permits.
DOG CONTROL: Dogs are not permitted to run atlarge. Dogs over three months must have aWashington County dog license by January 15th. Nomore than two mature dogs may be kenneled outdoorsin a residential district. Frequent or continued noise bybarking dogs is policed by the animal control officer.Pet owners must pick up and properly dispose of wastedeposited by their animal in township parks, includingArrowhead Trail.
PROPERTY MAINTENANCE CODE: The Townshiphas a property maintenance code to prevent andenforce maintenance issues. The code addresses itemssuch as property issues. If you have concerns withproperties not being maintained, please contact thePlanning Department
OFF-ROAD VEHICLES:All motor-driven vehicles usedfor off-street recreational purposes in the townshipmust be registered at the police department. Vehiclescannot be ridden within 100 feet of a property line orwhere dust is visible from 50 feet away or less than 2acres.
PARKING: No parking is permitted on the streetsbetween 2 and 6 a.m. Parking in cul-de-sacs isprohibited at all times. For emergency situations,contact the police department.
SNOW EMERGENCIES: In a Snow RemovalCondition all vehicles must be equipped with snow tiresor chains. Cable TV Channels 7 and 17 and WJPARadio broadcast these alerts. No vehicle may beparked, abandoned or left unattended on any street orright-of-way during a Snow Removal Condition.
SOLICITATION: House-to-house solicitation is notpermitted without a permit from the Public SafetyDirector. The permit contains the solicitorʼs photo.Solicitation is prohibited if a no solicitation sign isposted.
It shall be unlawful forSTORM WATER ORDINANCE:a property owner to divert and/or concentrate stormwater drainage from the surface, roof drains, Frenchdrains or impervious area onto an adjacent propertyother than into a natural watercourse, channel, stormdrainage easement or public storm sewer system. If notpossible, the property owner shall manage storm waterrun-off so as not to create a concentrated flow or createerosion or water damage on an adjacent property.
WEAPONS: It is unlawful for any person to dischargeany prohibited weapons in the township. Prohibitedweapons shall be any weapon discharging a singlemissile projectile by force, including rifles, pistols, BB guns, air guns, air pistols, spring guns, crossbows,sling shots or any other weapon which impels a pelletwith a force that can reasonably be expected to causebodily harm. Hunting is, however, permitted in designated areas ONLY.
ZONING: Ordinances establish zoning districts whereonly certain uses are permitted and also establish suchcriteria as height of buildings, setbacks from streets,side and rear lot lines, etc.
SUBDIVISION: The creation of any new lot, parcel, or shifting of lot lines requires township approval of a surveyed drawing.
