20,000

miles

since

June '86

traveling to

eight Bible

colleges from

Atlanta,

Kentucky,

and

as far West as Joplin,

MO. We

also

have

visited our

supp orting churches

as

well

as

presented

our p rogram

for supp ort to

congregations of w hi ch 4 have

chosen

to support us

on a monthly

basis.

Inspite of

the

num ber of churches we

have

supporting

us, w e

are

still short about

$500-

month t o

meet

our $2500.

per

month

goal. Pray for

the remaining 9

churches as

they

decide on

their mission

budgets. Hopefully we

can

make

up the

$500. difference.

With this

in

mind,

we

ask you to remember that one fourth of our present supp ort is from i ndi

EMERGENCY LETTSR

This is

our

first and hopefully last and

only

EMERGENCY LETTER

that we will ever

have

to

write.

Since

Joni

& I came to

Poitiers, ack in April, we have continued

to

look for

a

meeting

//^place for the church. We have run

into such

excuses as doors

being

too

small for pub lic reunions to not

wanting

to fool with

^ religious cult. The

things

w e were able to rent

have been

—

too small or too expensive, but this will all work out in

the

Lord's own

time. The EMERGENCY is this; we have 12 interns this

summer and they are

sharing

studio apartments. Each one had to

p a y a

deposit

and monthly rent

in advance, so

I had done thi s

from mission

funds before their

arrival

and

they

re-imbursed the

mission

upon arrival in

Poitiers.

Before

I had

a chance

to

put

the money in

the

bank, it was stolen

from

my briefcase wh ich

was

in

our car and in broad-daylight. The sum was 3350 dollars.

We pray that

y o u

will aid us in this

EMERGENCY.

the August rent

before the

At that

time, we had not found

a

building

for our

church meeting place and

the

search

goes

on

but

w e

think we have something for th e

first of September(more

on that next

time).

So

for June, July and August

w e

were

able to rent some rooms i n

a build

ing

owned by

one

of

the

members of the

Baptist church here in Poitiers. Thi s

well served

our

summer intern program.

Many contacts have been made which w e

hope will

help

fill our o w n building when

that

time

comes.

THE

FRENCH-ENGLISH CONNECTION

The

morni ngs w ere dedicated

to

French

learning for the interns. This w as

a

frustrating and

challenging

time for

them but alot of progress

was made by

each

one

and

we

hope that

a

part of the

challenge

will

bring them back to France*

in Lille, where

were before coming to Poitiers.

Other

teachers were, John Schirle, men

tioned above, Jamie Boyer, an american

student at the American Institute

in

Nantes, France, where she was

immersed

earlier this year while attending the

non-inst. church there,

and Xaivier &

Jean

Michel,

who are

both members of

the

Baptist

Church here in Poitiers.

On August 13th most of the interns re

turned to the States and now there are

just Joni, Zacharie, my self, the Black-

mores,

(who leaves in

October)

We

also

await the arrival of the

Hansons,

hopefully they'll

be here

before

you

re

ceive this

in Sept., Karen Richardson,

end of Sept., and the Woods

the

French

program

at the

University

with the

other

interns and we will all

be working to establish some roots here

in

Poitiers for

the

Lord's

church.

On July 31st, Aug. 1st

Aug. I4th we

presented contemporary Christian

concerts

with

the

music of

Amy Grant, Petra, Dallas

Holm,

and White Heart,

all

translated

into

French

of

course. The

program was entitl

ed

Le Rock du

Roc

which

says The Rock

of the Rock . To

p ublicize

the concerts

we received

permission

to

sing

on

th e

pedestrian

streets where

w e

did

a

few num

bers while p assing

out invitations to th e

concerts. We

had 10

people for the first

and

23

people

for the second. We presented

of them in activity

centers

in Poitiers.

That seems like

s o few p e o p l e

but

several

have

become

close

contacts

who are now

participating in other activities we

have

going.

The

concert

even made the paper

but they

called

us Catholic Rockers

instead of Christian Rockers .

On

the

other

side

of

the coin in

the

late afternoons,

the interns taught

English

using the

Simple English Bible.

RED ALERT OVER

Many of

you

may have received an emer

gency letter telling how the intern's

housing money and deposits had been

stolen from our van in broad

daylight.

Apparently with

so many people, a door

was left

unlocked since there was

no

apparent break-in damage. The exact

amount stolen was 3284.07

dollars

and

our

supporters came through

v/ith fly

ing colors

to replace

that amount, in

fact,we have received at this point,

Aug.), 3697.19,

which

is

more

than was needed. The

extra

fixing up the

church building

We arrived in Poitiers back in April

and

began

searching for

a

house

to buy and

found

a

couple

good deals but

after

counting the cost we decided that we

didn't have

the

money that

it

would take

to buy so we'll continue to rent, per

haps that's the Lord's will for

the

moment. We've found a

nice place with

a

yard

for Zacharie

and

even

a

garden

spot for cheaper than our apartment now.

It

is exactly

what

we were looking for,

a yard for Zac and we

even

have a garage.

The house is actually two separate apts.

and

there is a

strong

possibility that

the Hansons

will

be able

to take

the up

stairs in

December.

Be

sure to

check

the

new

in

the afternoon.

happier now

that she can

rest

more. I love the new

house

that mommy and daddy

have found
