Rules for transporting childrenon the front passenger seat**

Children under the age of 10 mustnot travel in the forwards facingposition, unless the rear seats arealready occupied by other childrenor the rear seats cannot be used(absent or folded). In this case, adjust the front passenger seat tothe most rearward position andleave the passenger air bag armed. The transportation of children in therearwards facing position is permit-ted. In this position, it is essential todisarm the passenger air bag.Otherwise, the child would risk beingkilled or seriously injured if the airbag were to inflate.

GENERAL POINTS RELATING TO CHILD SEATS

Although one of PEUGEOT's main criteria when designing your vehicle, the safe-ty of your children also depends on you.For maximum safety, please follow these precautions:

- Since 1992, all children under the age of 10 must travel in approved childseats* suited to their weight , on seats fitted with a seat belt.In order to recognise a child seat which conforms to current legislation, checkthat it bears an orange label indicating the weight range for its use andits approval number.

- A child weighing less than 9 kg must travel in the rearwards facing position both in the front and in the rear. PEUGEOT recommends thatchildren should travel in the "rearwards facing" position up to the age oftwo.

- Statistically, the safest seats in your vehicle for the transportation of children are the rear seats. PEUGEOT recommends that children travel inthe rear even when a "rearwards facing" child seat is used.

- If a child is travelling on a booster seat, check that the lap section of the seatbelt passes over the child's thighs correctly. The chest section of the seat belt must be positioned on the child's shoulder without touching the neck. PEUGEOT recommends that you use a booster seat with a back, fitted with aseat belt guide.

- Remember to fasten the seat belt or the child seat harness keeping the slackin relation to the child's body to a minimum , even for short journeys.

* According to current legislation in the country.** Consult the relevant administration in your country for information regarding

the rules for transporting children on the front passenger seat.

The key number is coded on the label attached to the key.If the keys are lost, your PEUGEOT dealer can rapidly supply you with new keys. The high frequency remote control is a sensitive system; do not operate it while it is in your pocket as there is apossibility that it may unlock your vehicle, without you being aware of it.

The remote control does not operate when the key is in the ignition, even when the ignition is switched off, except forreprogramming. However, do not operate the deadlocking function if there is anyone inside the vehicle.Driving with the doors locked may make access to the passenger compartment by the emergency services more difficultin an emergency. As a safety precaution (with children on board), remove the ignition key when you leave the vehicle, even for a short time.Do not repeatedly press the button of your remote control out of range of your vehicle. You run the risk of stopping it from working and the remote control would have to be reprogrammed.

When purchasing a second-hand vehicle:- ensure that you are given the confidential card;- have the key codes memorised by a PEUGEOT dealer, to ensure that the keys in your possession are the only ones

which can start the vehicle.Do not make any modifications to the electronic engine immobiliser system.

EMERGENCY BRAKINGASSISTANCE SYSTEM

In an emergency, this systemenables the optimum braking pres-sure to be reached more quickly, thus reducing the stopping distance.

It is triggered by the speed at whichthe brake pedal is activated. Theeffect of this is a reduction in theresistance of the pedal and anincrease in braking efficiency.

Stop immediately.

In both cases, consult a Peugeotdealer.

Normal operation of the ABS maymake itself felt by slight vibrationsof the brake system.

In emergency braking, pressvery firmly without releasingthe pressure.

These are triggered again :☞ automatically if the ignition is

switched off,☞ manually by pressing the switch

again.

DYNAMIC STABILITYCONTROL (ESP) AND TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)

These systems are linked and com-plementary to the ABS system.

In the event of a significant variationbetween the trajectory of the vehicleand the path required by the driver, the ESP system acts automaticallyon the engine and on the brake ofone or more wheels, to put the vehi-cle back on course.

The traction control (ASR) systemoptimises drive, in order to avoid thewheels slipping, by acting on thebrakes of the drive wheels and onthe engine. It also enables the direc-tional stability of the vehicle to beimproved during acceleration.

Operation of the ESPand ASR systems

When one of the two sys-tems is in operation, thisindicator light flashes.

The ESP system offersexceptional safety in nor-mal driving, but this shouldnot encourage the driver totake extra risks or drive at

high speed.

The correct functioning of this sys-tem depends on observation of themanufacturer's recommendationsregarding wheels (tyres and rims),the braking components and theelectronic components, as well asthe PEUGEOT assembly andoperation procedures.

After an impact, have the systemchecked by a PEUGEOT dealer

TOWING YOUR VEHICLE

Without lifting (4 wheels on the road)

You should always use a tow bar.

The towing eye is inside the spare wheel.

From the front:

☞ Unclip the bottom of the cover, using the flat part of the towing eye,

☞ Screw in the towing eye until it locks.

From the rear:

☞ Unclip the top of the cover using the flat part of the towing eye,

☞ Screw in the towing eye until it locks.

Lifting (2 wheels only on the road )

It is preferable to raise the vehicle by the wheels.

Never use the radiator crossmember.

Special features of the automatic gearbox

When towing with four wheels on theground, the following rules must beobeyed:– lever in position N,– tow the vehicle at less than 30 mph

(50 km/h) over a maximum distance of 30 miles (50 km).

– do not add oil to the gearbox.

When towing with theengine switched off, there is no brakingassistance

TOWING A TRAILER, CARAVAN,BOAT ETC...

Only use original PEUGEOT towbars which have been tested andapproved from the design stage ofyour vehicle.

The tow bar must be fitted by a PEUGEOT dealer.

Driving advice

Distribution of loads: distribute theload in the trailer so that the heaviestloads are as close as possible to theaxle and the nose weight is close tothe maximum authorised without, however, exceeding it.

Cooling: towing a trailer on a slopeincreases the coolant temperature.

As the fan is electronically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependenton the engine speed.

On the contrary, use a high gear tolower the engine speed, and reduceyour speed.

In all cases, pay attention to thecoolant temperature.Note: in certain cases of particularlyarduous use (towing the maximumload up a steep slope in high tempe-ratures), the engine automaticallylimits its power. In this case, cuttingoff the air conditioning allows theengine power to be recovered, andtherefore the towing speed to besignificantly increased (approximate-ly 12mph [20 km/h] more). If the coolant temperature warninglight comes on, stop the vehicle andswitch off the engine as soon aspossible.

Tyres: check the tyre pressures ofthe towing vehicle (label on the edgeof the driver's door) and of the trailer, observing the recommended pressu-re.

Brakes: towing increases the bra-king distance. Drive at a moderatespeed, change down early and brakegradually.

Side wind: sensitivity to side wind isincreased. Drive smoothly and at amoderate speed.

Lighting

Manual adjustment

Adjust your headlamps so as not todazzle other road users (see sectionon ''Manual adjustment of head-lamps''). Check the electrical signal-ling of the trailer.

Automatic headlamp adjustment(Automatic beam correction)

For vehicles with Xenon bulbs, thissystem automatically corrects theheight of the beam, whatever theload of the vehicle. The driver isthen assured of having optimum ligh-ting and not causing a nuisance toother road users.

In cases of malfunction, the driver isalerted by means of the warning lighton the instrument panel and the sys-tem adjusts your headlamps to thelow position.

PEUGEOT SERVICING

Your vehicle benefits from extended service intervals.

• For petrol engines: every 20,000 miles (30 000 km) or every two years.

• For direct injection diesel engines: every 12,000 miles (20 000 km) or every two years.

The service indicator informs you when each service is due; the point at which it is due is calculated from the last indicatorzero reset (see corresponding section).

Lighting of the service spanner indicates that the service is overdue*:

- either in terms of distance (over 20,000 miles [30 000 km] for petrol engines or 12,000 miles [20 000 km] for Diesel engines),

- or in terms of duration (over two years)

Note: if the battery is disconnected, only the distance will be taken into account.

The extension of the service intervals means that the engine oil level must be checked regularly: topping up of theoil between oil changes is normal.

It is for this reason that the PEUGEOT network invites you to an intermediate visit between regular services.

The date of this service is not shown by the service indicator. It is to be carried out at least every 10,000 miles (15 000 km) for petrol engines and every 6,000 miles (10 000 km) for direct injection diesel engines.

A PEUGEOT dealer will carry out a quick check, and will top up the levels if necessary (oil, coolant, screenwash upto 2 litres).

If the oil level is too low there is a risk of serious damage to the engine: check the engine oil level at least every2,000 miles (3 000 km) or 3,000 miles (5 000 km), depending on the conditions of use.

The extended service intervals have been made possible by technical modifications to the vehicles and lubricants:

THUS IT IS ESSENTIAL TO ONLY USE ENGINE LUBRICANTS WHICH ARE RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER.

CHILD SEATSAlthough one of PEUGEOT's main concerns when designing your vehicle, the safety of your children also depends on you.For maximum safety, please follow these precautions:– All children under the age of 10* must travel in a special approved child seat*, adapted to their weight, in a seat fitted with

a seat belt.– Front passenger seat*: children under the age of 10 must not travel in the forwards facing position**.The rearwards facing position is permitted. In this position it is compulsory to disarm the passenger air bag. After carrying out numerous tests, PEUGEOT recommends the following systems:

Up to 18 months (up to 13 kg)

"Britax Babysure": installed with its back to the engine in the front or in the rear using a three-point seat belt.In the front, the passenger seat must be in the 'mid-way' position on the slide.

From 9 months to 3 or 4 years (9 to 18 kg)

"Römer Prince": installed in the rear using a three-point seat belt. For the safety of your child, the seat and the restraining cushion must never be separated.

From 3 to 6 years (15 to 25 kg)

"Römer Vario'': installed in the rear with a three point seat belt.

Never leave a child or ananimal in a vehicle whichis exposed to the sun andhas the windows closed.

Never leave the keys within reachof children inside the car.

Disarm the passenger air bagwhen installing a rearwards-facingchild seat* in the front. The child would risk being killed orseriously injured if the air bagwere to inflate.Observe strictly the recommenda-tions for assembling or attachingthe child seat as shown in thechild seat instructions.

From 3 to 10 years (15 to 36 kg)''Recaro start'': installed in the rear with a three–point seat belt. The height and width of the seat back must be adjusted according to the ageand the build of your child.

"Klippan Optima": installed in the rear with a three–point seat belt. From theage of 6 years (approximately 22 kg), the booster is used on its own.

Remember, even for short journeys, to fasten the three-point seat belts or thechild seat straps, keeping the slack in relation to the child's body to a minimum. To prevent the doors from opening accidentally, use the child-lock. Also, do not open the rear windows more than a third.

* According to current legislation in the country of destination.** Unless the rear seats are already occupied by other children or the rear seats

cannot be used (because they are missing or folded down). In this case, adjustthe front passenger seat to the rear-most position and leave the air bag active.
