Graduates of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Confluence Health | Central Washington Hospital Residency Program will be well-rounded, competent clinical pharmacists equipped to provide patient-focused pharmaceutical care in acute or ambulatory care settings. Upon completion, graduates will be able to practice with confidence as they meet the needs of their patients, as well as be able to teach and train the next generation of pharmacists or continue their postgraduate training in a PGY2 program.

Confluence Health is a stand-alone integrated rural healthcare delivery system that includes two hospitals, multispecialty care in over 30 service lines and primary care in ten communities across North Central Washington. With over 225 physicians and 100 advanced practice clinicians, we serve an area of approximately 12,000 square miles. The pharmacy residency program is based out of Central Washington Hospital, a 200-bed community hospital in Wenatchee, WA. Located in the center of Washington State, Wenatchee, the Apple Capital of the World, is a booming community nestled against the Cascade Mountain Range and the mighty Columbia River with Lake Chelan less than 40 miles away. Enjoy 4 seasons and sunny skies while you are camping, white water rafting, rock climbing, skiing, fishing, visiting the famous Gorge Amphitheatre for a concert or just going for a stroll through an apple orchard in the valley. Our backyard is Seattle’s recreational destination hot-spot.

When searching for a residency program there were three key features important to me and Confluence Health embodies all of them. First, I was looking for a unique experience. At Confluence Health we care for patients across the largest geographical region in Washington. This allows us to utilize our pharmacists in specialized ways. Second, I wanted a place that encourages providers from different disciplines to work collaboratively. The pharmacist sits right next to the physicians in our “business centers” which makes providing recommendations, answering questions, and building great relationships easy. We have daily team rounds with our hospitalists. Lastly, I was looking for a home. At Confluence, I am supported, challenged and if I fall there is always somebody to pick me up. Confluence Health’s PGY1 program is shaping me into a better pharmacist.
Confluence Health provides a positive work environment with people always willing to help you and who want to see you succeed. This program gives residents many opportunities to make an impact in patient care with being involved in daily multiple disciplinary rounds, providing direct patient education, and though the management of multiple protocols. The pharmacists here have built strong relationships with the providers, which allows for residents to be able to work closely with them.
The pharmacy residency program is designed to develop pharmacists into competent and confident clinicians under the care of well-trained and passionate preceptors and mentors. The progressive team-based, geographic care model within the hospital employs pharmacists in a 1:1 ratio with our hospitalist team. This means working in the same office with your physician counterparts for close communication in the interdisciplinary care of your patient. The pharmacy leadership team are all diplomates of the ASHP pharmacy leadership academy and have designed the residency program to not only position graduates to be great clinicians, but great leaders in pharmacy.
Program Design & Highlights:
Stipend: $47,476
Relocation: $1,500
Paid Leave: 24 accrued paid leave days (7 holidays included)
Holidays: 5 of 7 off (July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Memorial Day)
Uniforms: One lab coat provided
Education: $500 for the year
Travel expenses: ASHP Midyear, Regional Residency Conference, WSU for Teaching Certificate activities
Medical Benefits: Benefits package available one month after employment
Wellness Program: Incentives to participate in various wellness activities
