The PhD in Education Studies in the field of School and Applied Child Psychology prepares school psychologists to create and use the knowledge of psychological science in ways that enhance the well-being of children, youth and families in schools and communities. Students gain a deep interdisciplinary, psychological understanding of the complex relationships between cognition, teaching and learning and the factors and conditions that influence the learning process and its outcomes. Additionally, students become highly knowledgeable about the interactions among cognition, affect, social development and mental health within a developmental perspective. Graduates have the knowledge, skills and competencies to apply these understandings to inform assessment and intervention practice in the social and material environments of schools and other settings. This program prepares graduates for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. This four-year, onsite program is designed for thosewishing to:

• qualify to become a registered psychologist in schools or related settings• build research design and implementation skills along with practitioner capabilities• learn from expert faculty and registered psychologists• conduct research within the field of School and Applied Child Psychology

Develop a solid grounding in theory and research during coursework and thesis work, and a firm grasp of the applied strategies psychologists use during practicum and internship periods.

Work with your supervisor and expert faculty to explore research opportunities and design an approach to conducting sound research in an areaof need.

Solidify your learning by completing your thesis work and doing a full-year internship with a registered psychologist

Sharpen your ability to carry out research, synthesize results and lead assessment and intervention activities to improve patient well-being.

Program Milestones

• Year 1: Practicum I, Qualifying Paper• Year 2: Practicum II, Thesis Proposal• Year 3: Advanced Practicum, Begin Thesis• Year 4: Internship, Complete Thesis

Admission Requirements

• An MA or equivalent (with thesis) in Clinical, Developmental, Cognitive, Counselling or Educational Psychology• Normally an "A" standing (80%) or equivalent in previous graduate work• Statement of research and professional interests and plans• Students short-listed for the program may be required to participate in a telephone or in-person interview
