PHI GENERAL HOSPITAL STRUMICA Dr. Nakje Gogov was born in 1953 in the village Veljusa where he finished primary education. He finished secondary education in Strumica, and he finished higher education at the Faculty of Medi- cine within the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. He started his work experience in the hospi- tal in Negotino in 1987, and in 1988 he transferred to work at the Department of Immunization in Strumica. Then he was working at the Department of Neuro- psychiatry as a sekundant and from 1997 to 2002 he was on specialization at the Clinical Center in Skopje. Since 2002 he was working as a neurologist at the Department of Neurology in the PHI General Hospital Strumica, while in the period from 2002 to 2006 he was the Head of this department. In the period from 2014 to 2017 he was a counselor in the Municipality of Strumica. Since August 2017 he has been performing the function Director of PHI General Hospital Strumica. Dr. Nakje Gogov has participated in numerous seminars, workshops and congresses in the field of neurology with his own topics, and he was the organizer of a Congress of Neurologists in Strumica.He has published 15 works in congressional collections in the field of neurology in Madrid, Sofia, Tuzla and Vienna. He has also been educated for EEG – electroencephalography. Dr. Nakje Gogov is a family man and a father of one son. Director: Dr. Nakje Gogov Spec. The PHI General Hospital Strumica is positioned in the central city area of Strumica, on street Mladinska no. 2. Primarily it functioned as a People’s Health Center, then as a Medical Center Strumica, and in 2005 it transformed into 2 parts: PHI General Hospital Strumica and PHI Health­care Center Strumica. The hospital provides services to 230.000 residents from the city, the sur­rounding settlements and cities that gravitate towards the city of Strumica.

In the field of reconstruction, construction of new facilities, equipping with medical equipment, and introduction and training with new working methods, the management team together with the hospital employees conducted important ac­tivities. In 2012 the central entrance of the PHI General Hospital Strumica was reconstructed, and a reconstruction was performed of the sur­gical, the orthopedic, the urological and the gy­necological outpatient clinics, in 2013 complete reconstruction was performed of the surgical block, where out of the existing two operating rooms, three operating rooms were made, and the part for sterilization was reconstructed. In January 2015 the construction of the Depart­ment of Interventional Cardiology was complet­ed, where the angiograph and a room for a cor­onary unit were situated. Since the beginning of April 2016 a complete project documentation was prepared, and funds were provided for com­mencement of reconstruction, extension and functional connection of the organizational units (Emergency Center, Surgery, Orthopedics with Traumatology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Pathol­ogy, Angiography, Gynecology and Obstet rics with Neonatology, Otorhinolaryngology, and Ophthalmology) in the complex called surgical block that comprises of Block A and Block B. Block A has a ground floor and 4 floors and it covers an area of 5.100 m2, while Block B dis po­ses of a ground floor and 2 floors, on an area of 1.400 m2. It is expected to be built for a period of 12 months according to all norms and standards applied in many modern surgical facilities world­wide. The following interventions are performed in the hospital, under the mentorship of special­ists from the clinics: in the field of orthopedics, knee arthroscopy – urgent and diagnostic ma­nipulative, in the field of urology, with endoscop­ic urological interventions of the type TUR of the prostate, TUR of the neck, the bladder, and biop­sy of the prostate, in the field of ophthalmology, cataract surgeries with a PHACO method, in the field of abdominal surgery, laparoscopic chole­cystectomy and laparoscopic appendectomy, in the field of interventional cardiology, coronarog­raphies and stenting. In regard to the medical equipment, an echo device for hips of infants was supplied, 4D echo in gynecology, colono­scope, dermatoscope and a range of other de­vices for unobstructed functioning and offer of standard services to the patients.

The PHI General Hospital Strumica has 370 employees. In regard to the use of its capacity, it is 80%. The sickbay part disposes of 218 hospital beds. The PHI General Hospital Strumica is spread over an area of 14.021m2, of which the hospital part covers 12.471m2, while the specialist­consultative services cover an area of 1.550m2. The PHI General Hospital Strumica offers the following types of healthcare services: specialist­consultative services, hospital treatment, x­ray diagnostics, laboratory services, ECHO cabinet, gastroscopy with colonoscopy, asthma center, center for diabetes, stress test, computed tomography, mammography and angiography.

In the past few years, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Macedonia invested in retrain­ing of doctors­specialists and middle­level med­ical staff in eminent centers outside the coun­try. Many doctors from the hospital have been sent to educate in: Istanbul, Sofia, Belgrade, Ljubljana, Novi Sad, Rome. In addition to the trainings abroad, also the project Dispersed Clinics has started, where eminent doctors, specialists from different clinics, come every month, and together with the specialists from the hospital directly participate in the examina­tion, diagnosis, determination of therapy, and surgeries of the patients. Another very impor­tant project is the project My Term whose imple­mentation was most beneficial for the patients who knowthe exact time, place, and doctor who will examine them. The construction of the new wing of the hospital is being completed, which was in a stage of construction for many years, and in this part all surgical departments will get new premises, halls, and they will be equipped with the most modern apparatus (surgery, gynecology, otorhinolaryngology, orthopedics). It is expected that the construction of the part of the new hospital will finish next year, and it will be put into operation.

Other projects are also being prepared, and new ways of operation will be implemented, following the example of some world famous hospitals. Team building for the staff will be in­troduced, as well as some drastic changes of the appearance and the way of functioning of the hospital. With modernization and expansion of the existing hospital capacities, increase and continuous improvement of human resources, with the introduction of new healthcare servic­es and technologies, the PHI General Hospital Strumica will become a leader in the provision of quality healthcare of the population in the southeast region, a superior healthcare institution of secondary level, both in the field of preven­tion, as well as in the fields of diagnosis and treatment of diseases.

Some drastic and specific changes are expected starting from 2018, aimed at improvement of prevention, care and treatment of patients, wherewith the hospital will emerge as one of the best hospitals in Macedonia according to the quality and care of its patients.
