THE PHOENIX CRJ

The popular Challenger series is the pedigree behind the Phoenix CRJ. The twin engine Challenger was designed and built to meet stringent systems redundancy requirements imposed by the FAA.

With five electrical sources, three independent hydraulic systems and powered by the GE CF34, one of the most reliable engines ever built, the Challenger was without doubt a major advance in business aircraft safety. It was an obvious step for Bombardier to stretch the fuselage by 20 feet and repeat the success of the Challenger creating the world’s first true Regional Jet with the introduction of the Canadair Regional Jet (CRJ-100) in the early 1990's. Bombardier was developing the Global Express ultra-long range business jet in the same period and the CRJ was deemed to be a suitable way to show the world what the interior of the Global Express would look like.

A LITTLE HISTORY

So was borne the Canadair SE (Special Edition). Only seven of the SE's were produced before the popularity of the CRJ with the airlines, driven primarily by the wide-body cabin and the superb economics of the aircraft, sucked up all available production. The Phoenix CRJ is a revival of the SE. Equipped with the latest state-of-the-art IFE (In-Flight Entertainment), CMS (Cabin Management System) and modernised cockpit the aircraft is delivered in "as new" condition after undergoing an extensive renovation and maintenance work scope.

MAKING IT HAPPEN

NEEDS ANALYSIS Understanding the aspirations and desires of the prospective Owner is the first step in achieving real value. No matter what the quality, if the aircraft does not do the job it was purchased for, there is no value whatsoever. The answers we get to critical questions guide the interior design, choice of additional equipment and even whether a long range tank is desirable.

Where the aircraft is based for example, may determine the in-service support package. The primary routes and destinations will determine if additional avionics are necessary and anticipated payloads will guide key weight and layout decisions.

Getting this first step right is critical to the success of the project.

SOURCING THE AIRFRAME Candidate airframes are chosen based on the criteria (such as age, hours and cycles) developed during the Needs Analysis. Maintenance records are examined and the pedigree of the operator(s) and maintenance providers are considered. A shortlist of suitable aircraft is compiled and discussed with the prospective Owner before a Pre-Purchase Inspection is conducted on the chosen airframe.

Airlines provide a ready source of good airframes

SPECIFICATION DEVELOPMENT Concurrent with sourcing the aircraft, our designers work with the Owner to draw up a detailed specification for the aircraft. Interior layout, materials, woods and colours are decided upon. The Galley is designed and equipment and accessories chosen. The CMS and IFE systems are minutely detailed and the aircraft avionics are enhanced to meet the operational needs of the Owner.

MAINTENANCE Once the selected aircraft has been purchased the aircraft is flown to the maintenance facility where the aircraft undergoes an extensive maintenance program including engine, apu and landing gear removal and overhaul. A 96 month check is conducted with all defects being repaired or replaced. All outstanding and due AD's and SB's are complied with and cosmetic defects such as crazed windows, dents and scratches are dealt with.
