Welcome to our returning families for 2020 and a special welcome to our families new to Trafalgar High School. Whilst our thoughts have been with those in the fire affected areas over December and January, I do hope you managed to have some relaxing and enjoyable time with your families and friends during this period. The 2020 school year has started very positively, with 775 students gathering in the sports centre for the first time at the commencement of the year. This is a much improved and more comfortable space to gather for all assembled and gathering under the banners of the school values; integrity, collaboration, aspiration and excellence, provided the backdrop for setting the scene for the year ahead. Acknowledgement and thanks to Carla Sette (visual communication teacher) for the designs. We also welcomed new staff to our school:
Ms Anastasia Elissa - PE, science and health
Ms Lean Foo - Language Education (Indonesian)
Ms Zoe Belford - Maths and science
Jordan Humphries - Sports assistance
Mrs Sharon Lowater - Business Manager We will be farewelling Mrs Kerry Malady, whom has been working in office administration and for the previous 12 years as Business Manager at Trafalgar HS. Many of you will know Kerry, and know what a fantastic asset to the school and our extended community she has been. She will most certainly be missed and we wish her all the best for her retirement. 2020 is a School Production year, with auditions for the School of Rock already scheduled for next Wednesday. Dates are set for the 30 & 31st July and the 1st August. In the previous productions and the talent highlighted in Traf’s Got Talent last year are anything to go by, School of Rock will be an outstanding success. I’d also like to congratulate our 2019 graduates, with 100% of students whom applied for university have been successful in obtaining a place. This is a tribute to the efforts they exhibited during their school year and leading into their exams. On behalf of the staff of Trafalgar High School, we look forward to working together with you to provide the best education experiences and outcomes possible for your students throughout 2020.

After another year of recording for the Kool Skools Project, the awards night was once again held at the Thornbury Theatre in Melbourne on Thursday the 5th of December. We had a number of students and bands nominated for awards this year and one group asked to perform in the music showcase. The Leftovers performed two original songs, “Sticky Tape” and “Second Chances”, as well as a cover of “Creep” by Radiohead. The Leftovers were highly commended for their original music and won “Best Rock Track” for the song “Second Chances” and Ishy Lewis also won the award for “Best Female Vocalist”. In other categories, Melody Westlake won the “Best Jazz/Blues Track” award for her original song “The Devil” and Isaac Hopgood, Marni Bosman and Logan Winter were also nominated for awards for their tracks “Castle”, an original song by Isaac Hopgood and “Crazy”, a Gnarles Barkley cover recorded by Marni, Logan and The Fill-ins. It was another great night of entertainment and we look forward to what the Kool Skools Project will bring in 2020 for Trafalgar High School.

2019 WORK EXPERIENCE During the first two weeks of December Year 10 students entered the “World of Work” by completing their work experience placements. This is a great opportunity for students to build networks in their industry areas, gather information about skills needed for a job, identify future career directions and make informed choices about career pathways.
