Innovative Technology Pushes IP Security Video MainstreamIT VARs Find Strong Business Opportunity in IP Surveillance SolutionsFor the last few years, manufacturers have been talking up the advantages of the IP Security Camera. The ability to view a camera anywhere on your network, the installation convenience of Power Over Ethernet, the picture quality of Progressive Scan video, Video Analytics providing customized alerts, and the advantages of IT administrators maintaining security video data are all great reasons to go IP. However, the latest generation of IP cameras incorporates brand new technologies which create a very compelling argument that says if you aren’t doing IP now, then you are missing out on offering your customers a truly innovative solution.

Video Quality

Megapixel cameras have become more popular recently especially in large areas such as parking lots or warehouses. They provide great detail and megapixel camera resolution allows for one camera to view the same area that several analogue cameras would typically cover. Why put 4 analogue cameras in your parking lot when you can use a single Megapixel camera instead, and benefit from high quality zoom of recorded video?

HDTV cameras are now available which raises the bar to a whole new level. The HDTV standard is the same that we see on our new LCD TV’s at home. The HDTV standard means not only high resolutions and 16x9 aspect ratios, but also full frame rates at those settings as well as a wider colour spectrum than standard TV.

P-Iris stepper motor controlled lenses have been introduced to Megapixel and HDTV cameras. P-Iris technology improves focus throughout a larger depth of field and it improves image quality in all lighting conditions.

Network and Storage Efficiency

Network bandwidth and data storage concerns have been greatly reduced due to the recently adopted H.264 compression. A Card Solution To Fit Any BusinessYou and your customers have worked too hard to get your company and theirs where it is today. We can help protect this investment and help build additional profitable revenue with your existing customers today. There are several areas of protection and value that Card Technologies can offer in order to help you protect your investments and make business more profitable every day. Here are a few examples of card technology solutions hard at work that SYNNEX can provide:

ID BADGES

The first and best place to start is the basic ID badge. This is a great way to differentiate your employees from the outside world. Systems can easily be built for your customers’ needs. Photo ID badges can have many uses. You can even use them as a form of advertising. The cards can bear your logo and colors - offering great branding. After all, you want your brand to be seen as much as possible.

TIME AND ATTENDANCE

Time and Attendance is another way you can use Card Technology to help you manage your business. The average Time System can pay for itself in less than 6 months, offering you an amazing ROI (www.timelogsoftware.com) for your customer. This helps customers reclaim money that they are losing in buddy punches, time theft and human error. The Time System can easily interface with Payroll software so that there is no room for entering false information.

ACCESS CONTROL

An Access Control System gives you the ability to control your facility. Access Control helps to avoid just anyone coming into your business picking up a laptop or worse, your company’s intellectual property. You can set up the systems to have full control of all your doors by locking them down after work hours or only giving access to doors that are in public areas. Full reports are possible, to see if people are coming in and out when they should not be.

VISITOR MANAGEMENT

Visitor Management offers you an extra level of protection to your customers’ business. It is important in case of emergency to know who is in your building at all times. If a fire breaks out in your facility, it is law that you must provide a list of people in the building. Where is that guest, vendor, contractor, visitor? This is where the automation of visitor management is vital. Every guest that arrives is signed in via their license, business card or passport which can be scanned in order to pull their pertinent information. You can then contact their host to get them safely out of the building. There are also expiring badges. When printed and put together after the allotted time they visibly expire. Red lines will appear showing that the person wearing the badge is no longer registered to be in the building.

SYNNEX has created card solution bundles in order for you, the reseller, to offer to your customers. Starting with the ID badge bundle through the Visitor Management, all are here to help make it easy for you to offer protection to your customers!

Please contact your SYNNEX Representative for more information on how we have made selling Card solutions simple!

Welcome To The World of ID Badges

As you walk down the hall on your way to the board room you pass a

man you have not seen before, thinking nothing of it. You head to your

meeting and wage war. After an intense discussion you head back to

your desk only to find your laptop is missing!!!! How could this be?? You

look around frantically because you had a report that was due today

saved on it. You come to find that there are a few of the company

laptops missing. You also discover that someone has taken the majority

of the company’s resources as everyone was in that gruelling meeting.

Then you remember That Man! Who was he?

This is the problem; today in the business world you need to protect

yourself. Aside from video surveillance, a cost effective way to know

who is in your building is to issue ID Badges. These don’t need to be

elaborate, although they can be a great form of advertising for your

company. These Badges can have other uses as well, such as Access

Control or Time and Attendance (great ROI for any company). But most

of all, ID Badges will give you the ability to know who is in your building,

and if they should be there or not. ID Badges paired with a Visitor

Toshiba IP Cameras Deployed in Effort To Revitalize Historical Columbus, Ohio NeighbourhoodSeveral Toshiba IK-WB21A IP network cameras and a Toshiba DVR have been deployed on the Near East Side of Columbus, Ohio in a pioneering effort to make a historical neighbourhood more inviting to retail and residential redevelopment.

Toshiba cameras are installed on six buildings along a two-mile stretch on East Main Street, between 17th Street and Wilson Avenue. Adjacent to downtown Columbus, this area is one of the City’s most historic communities with many of its buildings dating back to the late 19th century.

Although crime has been on the decline of late, the neighbourhood’s rates of gang activity, drug sales and prostitution continue to be among the highest in Columbus. This led local nonprofit Columbus Compact Corp. to request funding from the federal government to install a video surveillance system. Once funding was granted earlier this year, Columbus Compact Corp enlisted an integrator to design and install the system.

“We strongly encouraged Columbus Compact to deploy wireless mesh networking instead of standard analog CCTV. It is less expensive to install yet provides greater opportunities for future expansion,” explained the integrator. “By leveraging wireless IP, the mesh eliminated the need for trenching,

building-to-building cable runs, or purchasing expensive coax. Plus, we were able to use the PoE-equipped mesh nodes to power the Toshiba cameras and the heater/blower systems inside the protective camera enclosures.”

Finalized in June, the robust system is now streaming real-time video from the Toshiba cameras across a Firetide® wireless mesh network to a Toshiba DVR at the head end located inside Columbus Compact headquarters. Video is constantly monitored by trained members of community watch groups, enabling rapid response to suspicious incidents. Despite being situated in a dense urban environment the wireless network delivers high-resolution images for evidence-grade images.

Shortly after the cameras’ installation, these “digital eyes” watching the street captured the attempted shooting of an undercover police officer. Video from the incident was handed over to the police on a thumbdrive for use as evidence against the captured suspect. Twenty other major crimes have been recorded, including the assault of a local woman that was stopped by alerted police.

Columbus Compact Corp recently requested additional funding for the second phase of the project that would mount another twenty Toshiba cameras further down Main Street. New nodes and pre-configured cameras can join the existing mesh automatically.

Toshiba is proud to have been part of the revitalization of the neighbourhood.
