Curtain-raisers:

Cesar Running For Manila Vice Mayor?Because he’s often seen these days

meeting with Manila Mayor Fred Lim, Cesar Montano may have unwittingly set off speculations that he’s being drafted as Lim’s running-mate in the 2013 elections against the tandem of former Pres. Joseph “Erap” Estrada and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno.

If ever, it would be Cesar’s third time to run, the first having been in 2007 for senator and then in 2010 for governor of Bohol.

To set the record straight, Funfare called up Cesar yesterday and he confirmed having met with Mayor Lim several times.

“Our meetings are not really politically-motivated,” said Cesar. “No, Mayor Lim is not asking me to be his running mate.”

The truth is that Cesar has been tapped to play the title role in another (the fourth) Fred Lim bioflick which is set for an early December release. The first Lim movie starred Rudy Fernandez; the second, former Sen. Ramon Revilla; and the third, Eddie Garcia.

Haven’t the three bioflicks exhausted what there was to reveal about Lim?

“There are more untold stories about him,” said Cesar who found them in Lim’s biography May Langit Din Ang Mahirap written by Nick Joaquin. “I didn’t realize how colorful and dramatic Mayor Lim’s early life was until I read the book.”

Shooting of the movie starts first week of August.

The ‘Kabayan Syndrome’

Because Noli “Kabayan” de Castro has made it as Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, every showbiz denizen thinks that he or she is qualified to also run in an election — you know, if Kabayan can, why can’t I?

That’s why the political road paved (with good intentions) by Rogelio de la Rosa (who almost became the first President of the Philippines before Joseph “Erap” Estrada clinched the honor) in the early ’60s is a crowded avenue today, with showbiz folks of all shapes and sizes driven by different motives (some reportedly “for the funds of it”) swearing to high heavens, flaunting the hackneyed line “It’s payback time; I want to serve the people.”

Well, any natural-born Filipino citizen can and may run. But showbiz guys ready to take the often career-risky plunge into the political arena better heed first what Comedy King Dolphy once said (his exact words in an interview with The STAR in the early ’90s): Madali ang tumakbo; paano kung manalo?

No, venturing into politics (said to be deadlier than showbiz) is more serious than just a fun run because it entails great responsibility that starts not during the campaign but after the election — that is, if you’re lucky enough to win the nod of the electorate.

Are you ready to answer a knock on your door at ungodly hours from the taong-bayan who need money for transportation to the province, for medicine, for the funeral of a dear departed or for a thousand and one other needs? Are you ready to open your (especially secret) bank accounts for your SALN? Are you sworn to serving the people ng walang halong pag-iimbot at kalokohan at ng buong katapatan? Are you resistant to the temptation of using public funds for personal gains?

If you are ready to answer “yes” to all these questions, then go ahead. Good luck and God bless you! Here’s a partial list of showbiz denizens who have made known their intention to run in the 2013 elections:• Parañaque Councilor Alma Moreno for senator• Annabelle Rama for congresswoman in Cebu City

• Aga Muhlach for congressman in Camarines Sur (fourth district)• Phillip Salvador for vice governor (against incumbent Daniel Fernando) of Bulacan• Richard Gomez for mayor of Ormoc• Onemig Bondoc for vice governor of Bataan• Valenzuela City Councilor Shalani Soledad-Romulo for congresswoman of Bulacan• Quezon Board Member Gary Estrada for congressman• Quezon City Councilor Alfred Vargas for congressman• Rez Cortez for governor (or is it congressman?) of Camarines Sur

And here’s a list of those running for reelection:• Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, and QC Councilors Roderick Paulate, Gian Sotto and Precious Hipolito• Ormoc Rep. Lucy Torres• Caloocan City Councilor Marjorie Barretto• Bacoor Rep. Lani Mercado• Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez and Laguna Board Member Angelica Jones• Manila Councilors Edward Maceda, Lou Veloso and Robert Ortega• Laguna Gov. ER Ejercito and his wife, Pagsanjan Mayor Maita Sanchez• Parañaque City Councilors Roselle Nava, Jason Webb and Val Sotto• Makati Councilor Monsour del Rosario• Dagupan Councilor Maybelyn dela Cruz• Cainta (Rizal) Mayor Mon Ilagan• Bacoor (Cavite) Mayor Strike Revilla• Bataan Board Member Teri Onor• Batangas Board Member Christopher de Leon and, of course,• Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos.

By the way, Boy Abunda denied that he’s running for governor (or congressman) in Western Samar and so did Ai-Ai de las Alas for mayor of Quezon City. Eat, Bulaga! host Vic Sotto seems to enjoy keeping people guessing whether he will run (sana huwag na lang!) for mayor in Quezon City or not. According to reports, Bossing is not really interested but people close to him are pushing him into…running?

It’s a good thing that Luis Manzano got back to his senses and backtracked after floating the idea that he would run for mayor of Lipa City, a position once held by his mom, Gov. Vilma, who left it with a sterling record.

In his Tempo column, Ronald Constantino asked if the following would (dare) stage a comeback: Joey Marquez, Aiko Melendez, Edu Manzano, Ara Mina, Arnell Ignacio, Rico J. Puno, Nonoy Zuñiga, Jaime Fabregas, John Lesaca, Dingdong Avanzado, Mark Lapid, Barbara Milano, Zoren Legaspi, Roi Vinzon and Amay Bisaya.

My unsolicited advice to them?Don’t!!!

• After Precious Lara Quigaman shall have exchanged “I do’s” with Marco Alcaraz at a Christian wedding on Sunday, July 8, at Hacienda Isabella in Indang, Cavite, she will make an “important announcement” during the reception (same venue) that will surely only make their guests smile with approval. That was the reaction when Ruffa Gutierrez and Charlene Gonzalez broke the same “good news” at their own weddings years back, remember? (Clarification: Marco’s mom is Vilma, not Wilma, Alcaraz.)

• Health tip from my friend Dr.

Welson Yap who got the info from Japanese scientific research: Fully-ripe banana with dark patches on yellow skin produces a substance called TNF (Tumor Necrosis Factor) which has the ability to combat abnormal cells; the more dark patches it has the higher will be its immunity enhancement quality so the riper the banana the better the anti-cancer quality. Yellow-skin bananas with dark spots are eight times more effective in enhancing the property of white blood cells than green-skin bananas. Eat one to two bananas a day to increase your immunity.

PINoYS MouRN DoLPhYSCORES trooped to the

Heritage Park in Taguig City where Comedy King Dolphy (Rodolfo Vera Quizon in real life) was brought after his death Tuesday past eight p.m.

The remains of the Philippine comedy king arrived at the Heritage Park at 11:55 p.m. from the Makati Medical Center, hours after he passed away at age 83.

However, only the family was allowed inside the memorial park. The public was barred from the place.

The family disclosed that viewing of Dolphy’s body yesterday will be exclusive to relatives and close friends but it will be opened to the public on Thursday, July 12. Dolphy’s interment will be on Sunday, July 15, but there was no specific time given.

Dolphy was laid in a bronze casket wearing his favorite white ensemble.

Taguig City police chief Senior Supt. Tomas Apolinario ordered the deployment of policemen at the Heritage Park for security purposes.

On the other hand, actor and director Eric Quizon in a statement said his father died at 8:34 p.m. following a cardiac arrest.

“He lived a full life. He’s at rest. He’s at peace. He knew as he was going how much the country

loved him. He knew how everyone was praying for him. And if he could, he would have stayed just so he could thank you personally. “But where his spirit was strong, his body had so weakened. “He had to go. “On behalf of my brothers and sisters, on behalf of everyone who loved him, on behalf of Zsa Zsa, my brother, Ronnie, my sister Dona, my sister Kit, we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Pray for his eternal repose and in his honor, please smile at the person standing next to you. Heaven is a happier place with him there. And for us whom he’s left behind, comedy is dead, but long live comedy,” Quizon said in statement.

Doctors at the Makati Medical Center, where Quizon was confined, said Dolphy died from multiple organ failure, secondary to complications brought about by severe pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and acute renal failure.

The actor passed away at the intensive care unit of the MMC, where he was confined since last

June 9 due to the complications brought about by his pulmonary disease.

The comedy king underwent several dialysis and blood transfusions.

He was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 2009. As a result, his public appearances were reduced and he was frequently admitted to the intensive care unit.

On June 16, 2012, he was admitted at the MMC after complaining of shortness of breath. He was showing signs of recovery eight days later, but was hospitalized again in early July because of recurring pneumonia.

Dolphy’s death came 15 days away from his 84th birthday. He was born on July 25, 1928. He is survived by 18 children by six different women.

Dolphy starred in more than 200 films in his 66-year career, starting with a 1946 movie at 19 years old with Fernando Poe Sr., “Dugo at Bayan 1 (I Remember Bataan).”

Dolphy received from President Benigno Aquino the Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart in 2010.

Fans and supporters flocked to the MMC on Tuesday night while many fans started gathering at the Heritage Park Wednesday morning, when they learned the Comedy King’s remains would be brought there.

PALACE OPEN TO CHA-CHAMALACAÑANG is

open to reviving Charter change if the proposed reforms jive with President Benigno Aquino’s reform agenda.

Presidential adviser on political affairs Ronald Llamas said that if the provisions in Charter change would fit Aquino’s reform agenda, the President may consider giving his nod to amending the Constitution.

“We are not closing the door on the possibility of Charter change, Llamas said, pointing out that any proposal must undergo rigorous evaluation and must be shown to be in line with achieving the administration’s reform objectives” Llamas said.

Llamas also said that Charter change cannot simply be about

change for its own sake. Specific proposals will have to be assessed and evaluated, he said.

Earlier, Llamas cited Malacañang’s legislative priorities. He said that the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill has been on the list of priority legislation since last year, and the Administration has been consistent in its support for it.

Another measure, the Freedom of Information(FOI) , while not a priority bill, is likewise high on the list of measures being given serious study and consideration,” the Palace official added.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Speaker Feliciano Belmonte met recently to thresh out how they

can push through with amending the economic provisions of the Constitution even if President Aquino shows no interest in the issue.

Belmonte said his meeting with Enrile is aimed at expediting Charter change given the short period left in the Third Regular Session of Congress which starts on July 23.

PNoY MARKS SECoND YEARMALACAÑANG yesterday

said the Philippines has witnessed “genuine, meaningful change” in the first two years of President Benigno Aquino’s term.

In a statement issued marking the President’s second year in office, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said change has been evident “in the way government is run, in the way our country is viewed by the international community, and in the way we aspire and view our own futures.”

The three-paragraph statement, which stopped short of providing details on the changes the government claims, read: “No longer is the Filipino mired in paralysis and despair; he has seen the seemingly difficult tasks achieved, and is one with the government in creating a society that is truly just, prosperous, and equitably progressive.”

Valte said the President is “grateful” to Filipinos, “whose unwavering support has allowed him the confidence to implement reform” and who “remain his fount of strength, and the focus of each program and policy advanced by his administration.”

But “while much has been achieved, much remains to be done,” Valte said, adding that “the Aquino administration continues to build on the momentum we have already gained.”

“With everyone’s commitment, we are sure to lengthen our strides along the straight and righteous path. The message remains the same: honest and accountable governance is the anvil upon which our people can forge better futures for themselves,” the Palace official said.

Bantay Bata exec Tina Monzon Palma and ABS-CBN Foundation International President Robbie Fabian to grace black & tie event

One hundred Filipino-Americans who have made a mark in the U.S. either in their chosen careers or their civic contributions will be cited in a black and tie event to be held on July 28 at the Universal Hilton.

Organized by the Philippine Children’s Charities, Inc. and the Press Photographers Philippines-USA, Inc., the ‘100 Outstanding Filipino Americans in the USA’ will be honored and will receive an award in the event that will benefit the Bantay Bata 163 project in the Philippines that helps abused, underprivileged, sick and indigent Filipino children who need funds to go to school and for their healthcare.

Leading organizer and Project Director Darna B. Umayam, Chairman of the Philippine Children’s Charities, Inc., said the outstanding Filipino-Americans were “chosen from many who were highly recommended to accept this prestigious award because of their achievements in their chosen careers, philanthropic works that they did for the community and for the less fortunate Filipinos back home, most especially the children.”

Umayam said more than 1,000 people are expected to attend the formal event. She said the event will benefit primarily the Bantay Bata 163 project along with other beneficiaries. She said ABS-CBN Network and ABS-CBN Foundation International, through its President Robbie Fabian, and Bantay Bata 163, through its Executive Director Tina Monzon Palma, have “fully endorsed the awards’ night, legally and officially.” Umayam said both officials will be “present at the event to personally accept the donation for the underprivileged Filipino children of Bantay Bata 163.”

Along with Umayan, who has made a name in several humanitarian projects that benefited many hospitals and foundations in the Philippines, the President of the PPP-USA Sid Guerrero and its Chairman of the

The Association of Certified Home Health Agencies in Illinois (ACHHAI), a non-profit 501(c) 3, is the lucky beneficiary of Monsanto’s talents. “The Fire and Ice Fashion Ball,” featuring Alexis Monsanto Designs, happened on Saturday, June 30, 2012 in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency O’Hare, 9300 West Bryn Mawr Avenue in Rosemont, Illinois, from 5pm – 12am. Approximately 500 guests came all done in their bests as being labeled, city’s fashionistas. The ladies came all in their red evening gowns; some came in their Ball gowns all accessorized in their rubies and diamonds that were the “Ice” on the Ball. While their handsome and sharp men on their arms were in White dinner jackets and Black ties. It’s like Rhett Butler meets Scarlet O’Hara in “Gone with the Wind”.

The evening started with the Red Carpet arrivals and cocktail reception for the VIP guests. They then all moved, sat in the Ballroom and was served steak and salmon for dinner. They were all welcomed by the President John M. Sia, MD. The first part was the presentation of the ACHHAI Ladies in Red, all in Alexis Monsanto Couture. The entertainment part of the evening was the presentation of the

of Fun, Glitz and GlamourAlexis Monsanto Holiday/Resort’13.

Monsanto presented his line in theatrical style. Men in Modern Gladiators came out with banners bearing the designers name. Then the models came and established poses on the stage emoting to the symphonic and dramatic background music like that of HBO’s “Rome” as the crowd reacted in their Ooh’s and Aah’s to their delight. “Monsanto’s designs never failed to amuse me, they are regal and timeless”…according to Ms. Cecilia Buenaflor the event chair.

Founded in 2009, ACHHAI is composed of approximately 40 caring home health agency owners, who firmly believe in giving back to the community that supports its members. Proceeds of the Ball will benefit several Illinois charities, including The Greater Illinois Alzheimer’s Association; the Bank of America Chicago Marathon; and 35 indigent patients in Illinois who will be able to have much-needed cataract surgery. It’s crunch time. Monsanto banded together in support of the exposed midriff like never before this season, but this is no Britney Spears redux. He conjured a latter-day Brigitte Bardot. The key is to keep the belly button under wraps, exposing just a tasteful flash of skin below the bandeau in basket weave pattern paired with full sunburst pleated skirt.

DollywoodMaternity Leave

Amy Perez is on maternity leave from her top-rating TV5 show, “Face to Face.” Gelli de Belen will pinch-hit for her as Pambansang Kapitana until Amy gives birth.

“All that fighting on the show is so stressful, so my doctor advised me to take a break,” Amy explains.

How did her sons Adi and Kyle react to the news of a new sibling? “Adi’s super-excited. He broke the news to the family,” Amy recounts. “Carlo (her partner) and I still have to talk to Kyle.”

The “Face to Face” queen has gone through many phases in the name of love. Her heart has finally found its home for better or for worse—and for keeps.

Ruffa Gutierrez: I’m An Easy TargetRuffa Gutierrez is not one to sit on

her laurels. She’s perpetually in a state of reinvention, which makes her all the more interesting.

Rufs has been through hell, so to speak, yet she always managed to bounce back with grace.

As she celebrated her birthday recently, she also celebrated the joys of being an empowered woman.

Here’s my tete-a-tete with the fab birthday girl who has lived well, learned much, shared fully and loved deeply. What’s the biggest lesson you learned as you turned a year prettier?

No matter what people say, make a stand and stick by it. Never compromise your values and principles for anything or anyone. What’s the best birthday gift you got this year?

Delicious homemade brownies baked with love by Lorin & Venice. :)What was the highlight of your birthday bash?

When I came home from a spa party given to me by Guerlain at L’incontro… there was another surprise party at home waiting for me! It was organized by Lorin, Venice & my dearest friend. I was so shocked that I almost had a heart attack! :) One of the happiest days of my life.

Why did you choose a fire and ice theme for your birthday bash?

It’s inspired by Robert Frost’s eponymous poem. Friends and I were sitting in my living room depressed over Pacman losing to Bradley when Charina Sarte came up with the most fabulous theme for a party. We looked at pictures, pegs and did some research. It was then when Fire and Ice was born.Tell us about your foundation.

Roof-a-child is a project that provides shelter for disadvantaged kids coming from abusive homes, abandoned by their parents, or afflicted with disabilities.

Apart from its denotation, Roof-a-child aims to equip the youth with the tools they need for holistic development through educational, athletic, and cultural means. It also organizes feeding programs and medical missions. On a grander scheme, this nonprofit foundation intends to promote economic independence in impoverished communities by providing livelihood programs and cooperative projects, thus ensuring a flourished, more stable life.

I would like to use my celebrity status in making a difference in people’s lives.Tell us about your website.

In line with my renewed vision, I’m also bringing something else from the ’90s back: my own website! I was one of the first few celebrities that had my own website online way back in 1998. My “crazy, sexy, cool” page, however, fell into disuse two years

ago due to my hectic schedule.I’m also set to launch an official fan page.

A Ruffa App is also in progress. Soon I will also be blogging and have a means to communicate with my fans.

But though my birthday is over, it’s still only the beginning of my rediscovery and fresh start.Tell us about your role in TV5’s “Enchanted Garden.”

I play the role of Diwana Valerianna—tagapagligtas ng kagubatan. Demigoddess of water. Alice, Rufa Mae and I play sisters. My character is very interesting since I play dual roles. :) Good vs evil. Which One will prevail?? :)

You’ve said that you’re taking a sabbatical from love. If and when you fall in love again, what are the lessons you learned in the past that will be your heart’s guide?

Love myself and be whole on my own. Waiting for God’s best for me. Before you know it, it’s already gonna be November! The sabbatical will come to an end. :)What’s the best part of being Ruffa Gutierrez?

By Notice dated June 6, 2012, William Carlson, Ph.D., National Certifying Officer, of the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor in Atlanta, Georgia, reconsidered the January 23, 2012 denial of certification of the application for permanent employment certification (ETA Form 9089) filed by Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District on May 6, 2011, for a Filipina teacher.

This Author represented the employer, Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District, based in Orosi, California.

Audit Notice And Documentation Required:

On May 6, 2011, Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District, by its Asst. Superintendent Craig B. Drennan, through this Author, filed its application for permanent employment certification for a Filipina Math teacher on H-1B status since 2007.

By Notice dated July 8, 2011, the Atlanta National Processing Center of the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor notified the employer that its application for permanent employment certification had been selected for audit.

On or about August 1, 2011, and before the due date of August 8, 2011, this Author filed the employer’s Response to Audit Notification dated July 8, 2011.

Reason For January 23, 2012 Denial Of Certification And Motion For Reconsideration:

By Notice dated January 23, 2012, the Office of Foreign Labor Certification of the Employment and Training Administration of the U.S. Department of Labor at its Atlanta National Processing Center denied the certification of the ETA Form 9089 for the Filipina math teacher.

On or about February 17, 2012, this Author, on behalf of the employer, Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District, filed its Brief In Support of its Motion For Reconsideration, arguing that 20 CFR 656.24 allows the employer to request reconsideration of the denial of certification within thirty (30) days from the date of issuance of the denial.

Indeed, during the audit, the employer comprehensively enumerated the eight (8) recruitment steps it took to find the qualified, able, willing, and available U.S. worker for the job position.

So, aside from the mandatory steps (job order and two print advertisements) for professional occupations, the employer did three additional recruitment steps: private recruitment agency, internet job posting, and publication in local or ethnic newspaper.

Conclusion:William Carlson, Ph.D., National

Certifying Officer, agreed with this Author, and reconsidered the denial of certification, and certified the application for permanent employment certification of Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District for the Filipina Math teacher, valid from 06/06/2012 to 12/03/2012.

by Mario BautistaFree Hand Daniel Accepts heart-

Chiz Rumored RomanceDANIEL Matsunaga says he has

moved on since Heart Evangelista dumped him but denies it’s Heart who’s the reason why he left GMA7 and moved to TV5. “I’m thankful TV5 opened their doors for me and gave me a break as host in ‘Game N Go’ and now, also as an actor in ‘Enchanted Garden,’ ” he says. “I’ll also be part of another show, ‘Third Eye,’ so how can I say no to their offer? I’m honored to be a Kapatid. I signed a two-year contract with them but they’re so kind as it’s non-exclusive and I can also accept some other work.”

How does he feel that Heart is now linked to Sen. Chiz Escudero? “I heard about it. If it’s true, I’m happy for her na may bago na siyang love life. Basta masaya siya, masaya rin ako for her. We didn’t break up naman as enemies. But as for me, I’m not ready for a new relationship. Focus muna ako sa work. I’m seriously studying Tagalog now so I can speak it fluently. I want to prove to TV5 na tama ang pagkuha nila sa akin.”

ALJUR Abrenica hasn’t appeared in a regular TV show since “Amaya” and he’s been doing nothing but promote GMA Pinoy TV in shows abroad. We now hear he’ll be paired with Kris Bernal and Rhian Ramos in “Sana Dalawa ang Puso Ko.”

The concept seems good but we think it’s better if, instead of Rhian, they’ll just get Kylie Padilla to be the other part of the love triangle. This will make the show much more intriguing as Aljur and Kylie are very much in the news now after they’ve been reported to be “nag-kabalikan.”

It’d be recalled they had an LQ (lovers quarrel) some months ago. If they’d cast Rhian, there’ll be no spark (as demonstrated in their movie “My Kontrabida Girl”) and it would be of no interest to viewers at all since everyone knows she has already admitted being lovey-dovey with KC Montero, the estranged husband of Geneva Cruz. Aljur needs a show that will rate better than his “Machete.”

Gina Fears About Being Protege Mentor

GMA7’S ‘Protege: Battle for the Big Artista Break’ will start on July 23 after “One True Love” with Jennylyn Mercado showing the auditions in “Inside Protege.” All in all, about 8,000 people auditioned in 15 cities. The semi-finalists (about 80 of them) were presented to the press and out of this, the mentors will choose the 20 finalists: two boys, two girls from each region. They will be officially presented in the Protege gala night on August 3.

The mentor for Mindanao is Phillip Salvador, Southern Luzon is Gina Alajar, Mega-Manila is Roderick Paulate, Central and Northern Luzon is Ricky Davao and Visayas is Jolina Magdangal (who had a accidental bad fall at ‘Party Pilipinas’ and her foot is now on cast so she wasn’t at the press presentation last Sunday night). GMA exec Darling de Jesus said two winners (one boy, one girl) will be chosen and they’ll win a total of P12 million in cash and in kind.

Gina Alajar says: “Hindi ko alam kung

magkakalamat ang pagkakaibigan namin dahil dito as the mentors.”

“Basta ako,” says Phillip, “I won’t compete with anyone but myself. Basta pagbubutihin ko ang pagiging mentor ko for the sake of my protégés.”

The judges are Joey and Bert de Leon, Cherie Gil and GMA Films Pres. Annette Gozon-Abrogar. Aside from Jennylyn, Maxene Magalona will be hosting the webisodes on the internet, Carla Abellana the Protege journey showing the finalists in their various homes and Dingdong Dantes the gala night on weekends.

And here are the standouts for us from the various regions. Mindanao: Steffiner Pacheco, 16; Angeline Argel, 19; and Archimedes Udaundo, 16; all from Davao City. From the Visayas: Alicezandra Sommerauer, 17, from Cebu; John Kevin Durano, 18, from Danao; and Ian Sergs Jamin, 21, from Biliran. Southern Luzon: Ivana Jane Villanueva, 19, from San Pablo. Northern & Central Luzon: Isaac Jacob de Leon, 18, from Pampanga; Herminio Batongbacal, 17, from Nueva Ecija; Dale Arehl David (she’s a girl), 15, from Angeles. From Mega-Manila: Harissah Abdallah, 19, from Alabang; Christopher Leonardo, 20, from Laguna; Nicole Kim Donesa, 18, and Zanaia Victa Koetz, both from Antipolo.

These are just our personal choices. As you can see, we were not able to complete the requirement of getting four finalists from each region. Most of those we saw are just plain looking and have no movie star appeal at all.

Camille Enjoys Assunta’s Story

CAMILLE Prats is busy with two daily shows, “Luna Blanca” on GMA7 (which often comes in late as “24 Oras” is often 15 to 20 minutes overtime) and the woman’s talk show “Mars” on GMA News Channel at 6 p.m. Despite this, she’s also shooting a new movie, “Ben Tumbling,” where she plays the sister of the notorious kingpin played by Jeric Ejercito, son of Gov. ER Ejercito. “It’s from my point of view that the story is told,” she says. “Dina Bonnevie plays our mom.”

Camille is enjoying her hosting chores in “Mars” immensely. “I learn so much from our guests. Tonight, si Assunta de Rossi ang guest namin and we discuss how is it to be a stepmom to the two kids of her husband sa first wife nito. She also shares with us her special steak recipe and how to get rid of stubborn fats. We also feature a viral video about a Korean who transforms into a Barbie doll through make-up, plus the wild antics of the notorious twitter sensation @superstarmarian and street magicians who wow the audience with their tricks.”

“We had a storycon already and I’m training for the swimming lessons kasi mahirap din ang training, ang dadaanan natin kasi skin diving, so walang gear,” kuwento ni Piolo.

“Good thing I’m a fast healer. Medyo may bukas-bukas pa kapag naliligo ako, namumuti but it’s healing fast. Two days after the accident, nag-bike agad ako, I’ve been playing badminton. One thing I’ve realized, it didn’t stop me from doing sports. All the more I wanted to ride. I remember when I had an injury during a badminton tournament, nagpahinga lang ako ng ilang buwan and then pagbalik ko mas naging agresibo ako sa laro, so, gaya ng sinabi ko it makes you better at nale-legitimize ang pagsali mo sa sports,” paliwanag ni Piolo.

“Well, siyempre lately, sobrang busy ni Sarah. Ayoko namang istorbohin ’yung tao. Siyempre ang dami niyang ginagawa. I’m just here to support her. Kung anumang suporta at tulong ang puwede kong ibigay sa kanya para mas ma-inspire siya,” pagtatapat ng binata.

Ayon kay Gerald, marami na rin siyang mga bagay na natutunan mula sa dalaga.

“Si Sarah po ang daming itinuro sa akin, mga bagay-bagay na kailangan kong ma-realize muna. Dati sinabi ko sa TV

na kulang na lang sa akin girlfriend, na gusto ko na magka-girlfriend. Sabi sa akin ni Sarah mismo na I should be content with what I have now.

I took that to heart. ‘Wow, oo nga ’no?’

“Doon sa panliligaw ko sa kanya, ang dami kong natutunan about myself, about her, about life,” giit pa ni Gerald.

Sa totoo po, if you give a good performance, then you can win an award, then you can have good ratings, so wala po akong prayoridad sa dalawa,” paliwanag ni Iza.

Liz Alindogan: Dolphy’s Contribution to Entertainment Will Never be Forgotten

MANILA, Philippines—Actress Liz Alindogan on Tuesday night said Dolphy’s contributions to the entertainment industry would never be forgotten.

“This is a sad day because of the passing of the King of Comedy. He will never be forgotten for his contributions to the entertainment industry,” Alindogan said.

Dolphy passed away 8:34 pm

Tuesday night following a cardiac arrest.

Alindogan said she extended her deepest condolences to the family and urged the Filipino people to pray for Dolphy’s soul.

She said she considered Dolphy as a father figure and that he should have been awarded the National Artist award long before.

Wedding is oFF for Rufa Mae & Boy2WHEN Rufa Mae Quinto

announced a few months ago that she’ll wed Boy2 Quizon in a beach wedding come December, many doubted that it would push through since she has made similar wedding announcements before but they all fizzled out. Now, the latest news is that the wedding is definitely off as they had a bitter falling out.

It’s said it’s Rufa Mae who decided to call it quits as they’re having frequent fights due to the projects that they’re supposed to be doing together in Rufa Mae’s production company. Well, looks like business and romance don’t really mix well. Their relationship that started in “Bubble Gang” lasted for only a year and few months. The sad part is that they didn’t part as friends.

It looks like Rufa Mae is unlucky in both love and career these days. With her lovelife in shambles, her career also got stalled after she left GMA-7 and moved to TV5 where her being a co-host of “Wiltime Bigtime” proved to be shortlived.

By Dharel Placido, ABS-CBNnews.com

MANILA, Philippines – Director-actor Eric Quizon, son of the late King of Comedy Dolphy, recalled how his father defended him from people who teased him for being an “anak sa labas” (bastard).

Eric, who has served as his family’s main spokesman since news of Dolphy’s worsening condition came out, said his father never made him feel that he was less important for being born out of wedlock.

“That time tinutukso nila ako na ‘anak sa labas, anak sa labas!’ So parang masakit iyun kasi at that age hindi mo iniisip yun eh,” Eric told ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda in an interview at The Heritage Park in Taguig City.

“Sabi niya (Dolphy), ‘wala iyun, walang anak sa labas. Anak kita paano ka magiging anak sa labas,’” he added.

Eric, along with Ronaldo, Madonna and Jeffrey, are Dolphy’s children with Alice Smith.

Dolphy had his first six children with Engracita Dominguez namely: Manuel, Salud, Rodolfo Jr., Wilfredo,

Eric: I Was Teased For Being ‘Anak Sa Labas’

Edgardo and Raul.Eric said at first, no one believed

that Dolphy was his father. He said he had to bring his

father to school at the Ateneo to prove to his classmates that the famous actor was his father.

He said Dolphy did not hesitate to accompany him to school, even it was not yet widely known that the actor has another family.

Sabi niya ‘halika ikot tayo.’”

Eric said the death of a loving father has yet to fully sink in.

“Maybe hindi pa siya nagsi-sink in sa akin ngayon but definitely I know, mami-miss ko siya, at alam ko na mararamdaman ko lahat ng pain, and that is something I have to endure, something I have to go through,” he said.

Dolphy was a real warrior during the last months of his life, Eric said of his dad, who had several bouts of pneumonia.

Eric said his dad served as the entire family’s source of strength.

“I guess my dad’s my inspiration, like I said, yung time na iyun alam kong naghihirap siya, na kinakaya niya. So what more pa kami na may lakas pa kami physically… My dad’s always been an inspiration for me. I will always look up to him. He has always been my rock.”

Jake Not Rushing To Fall In Love With Lovi

MANILA, Philippines – When it comes to his love life, Jake Cuenca chooses to take it slow and private.

“When it comes to dating and my personal life, kilala niyo ako kapag handa na ako, there’s no feeling better than to be free, ‘yung wala kang tinatago. But then that comes at the right time and right place. Kapag handa na ako I will talk about it pero sa ngayon balato niyo muna ito sa akin,” the “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan” actor said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

Jake is currently being linked to former “My Neighbor’s Wife” co-star Lovi Poe. The two actors from rival networks are set to work soon on a gay movie, “Lihis,” directed by Joel Lamangan.

Reuniting for the big screen has refueled dating rumors between Jake and Lovi, who both publicly admitted their

admiration for each other. The kapamilya actor insisted,

“Kami ni Lovi, we are very good friends.” He added that he has learned never to rush love anymore.

“Ang dami ko nang natutunan sa pinagdaanan ko na relationship. One thing I’ve learned kapag handa ka na, saka mo panindigan.

Huwag ‘yung magpapadala ka dahil sa nagpadala ka sa tao. This is a type of thing na kapag handa na ako, I will talk about it. Kapag dumating ang araw na iko-commit ko ang sarili ko, huwag kayong mag-alala at handa na talaga ako,” he said.

In a separate interview with PEP, Lovi described his relationship with Jake as “good and special.”

“What’s so cool about it, hindi ko siya ma-i-de-describe as dating friends as how we call it. Hindi siya yung pagkatapos ng isang proyekto, wala na. Yun nga ang maganda sa kanya, for me, it’s really good and special.”

Lovi also clarified that she is not exclusively dating Jake as claimed by some reports. “No, no, I’m not in a stage in my life that I want to date anyone exclusively yet,” she said.

“Wala muna, hanggang ganito na lang muna, magkaibigan [kami ni Jake],” added Lovi.

Roderick Paulate Suspended, Marian Rivera Sends Support

MANILA, Philippines - Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales has ordered the six-month preventive suspension of Quezon City councilor Roderick Paulate. The order came after the Ombudsman approved the findings from its Field Investigation Office (FIO) showing evidence against the multi-awarded actor having been supposedly maintaining at least “30” fictitious employees in his payroll. These fictitious employees supposedly received monthly

wages ranging from P2,500.00 to P5,000.00, with Paulate having already released P1.12 million in salaries. Also suspended for a similar case is Councilor Francisco Calalay Jr.Calalay allegedly

maintained a total of “29 ghost employees” from January to November 2010.The 11-page order dated July 5, 2012 states “strong evidence of guilt on the part of the respondents…the endorsement of these contractual employees to the Legislative Department and their attestation thatthese employees rendered services, tend to show that they knowingly or willfully used their positions in placing under the employ of the local government of Quezon City.”Both Paulate and Calalay, as well as their respective liaison

REDWOOD CITY, California – Lotis Key, the former girlfriend of Dolphy, mourned the demise of the Philippines’ Comedy King, along with the rest of the Filipino people.“He’s gone. For this reason, or that, they say he may not be eligible for coveted national recognition. I’m sure he would laugh at the thought,” Key said in a statement she sent to Balitang America. She also said though Dolphy’s eligibility for National Artist is still in contention, he has been awarded a higher prize: the unconditional love of Filipinos.“For over sixty years he’s possessed the biggest award his country has to offer. One that no politician, businessman, or preacher has yet been able to win--the unconditional love of the Filipino people,” she said. For Key, there is only one Dolphy, or Rodolfo Vera

Lotis Key Remembers DolphyQuizon Sr. in real life.“An intelligent, gracious, and unique man has passed on, and I mourn with all those who love him. In the Philippines, there will never be another movie or stage artist like Dolphy.”She added, “That is sad, because now of all times, we need the comforting release into laughter and silliness that he instinctively provided for us. officers Flordeliza Alvarez and Vicente Bajamunde will remain suspended without pay while the Ombudsman conducts a preliminary investigation on the matter. They are facing possible charges of Malversation of Public Funds through Falsification of Public Documents, Violation of Section 3(e) of Republic Act No. 3019 and administrative charges for GraveMisconduct, Serious Dishonesty and Falsification of Official Documents. In an earlier interview with PEP, Paulate belied allegations of his suspension saying that the issue is just “tsismis.”“Yun raw ang purpose para mawalan ako ng gana at hindi na ako tumakbo [for a political position],” he said.Paulate said he was as surprised as any with the issue, which he said he learned only from a local newspaper.

The actor also hinted that the whole affair might be politically motivated.“Kasi kakaupo ko pa lang parang meron na agad ganon. But let’s see, let’s see kung ano ang mangyayari,” he said.Asked about the supposed “ghost employees,” Paulate said, “Wala.”“I will say na zero ghost employees kami. Kasi we have a process, e. But ayaw kong ipaliwanag dito,” he added.Paulate is on his first term as councilor of Quezon City’s 2nd District. He chairs the committee on cultural and tourism affairs. He also appears as celebrity mentor on the GMA-7 reality show, “Protégé: The Battle For The Big Break” and as a member of the cast of the Sunday comedy show “Tweets for My Sweet” also on GMA7.Actress Marian Rivera believes that her “Tweets For My Sweet”

co-star can weather the storm he now faces. “Siyempre, ang mga problema, nagdaraan ‘yan, pero lilipas din naman. So, magpi-pray na lang na maayos lahat para sa kanya. Ang hirap kaya ng may problema! Kaya niya ‘yan,” Rivera was quoted as saying in an interview. The actress confirmed that Paulate opened up to her about the issue, “Pero siguro, pang-amin na lang muna. Kasi, masyadong sensitibo para pag-usapan.”“At saka, wala rin ako sa posisyon para sabihin ko ‘yung side niya. Kasi, bilang hindi siya ordinaryong artista, may katungkulan siya, mabigat, e,” she added.Rivera said she continues to communicate with Paulate through SMS.“Nag-uusap kami kaya alam ko ang mga bagay-bagay,” she intimated.

Secret lovers caught in FB photoPretty Starlet keeps denying that she and Hunky Actor are a couple.PS, however, had been spotted waltzing in and out of HA’s condo unit building by kibitzers. In another instance, PS visited the set of HA’s latest project. An over-enthusiastic production staffer innocently posted on Facebook a photo of HA and PS together. The unintentional outing will surely make PS and HA’s respective handlers go ballistic.

Air rageAcclaimed Actress is purportedly a nightmare to travel with, according to a flight attendant.During one flight, AA was allegedly quite rude to FA. Moreover, AA was a chatterbox as well. Needless to say, AA’s seatmate felt “hostaged” throughout the trip.Another Veteran Actress is just as obnoxious. VA supposedly expects to be upgraded every time she flies abroad.VA brazenly throws her weight around, bullying the poor crew.

Million-peso execsWhile everyone in the company is cost-cutting, Top Exec 1 and Top Exec 2 are living in high style.TE1 reportedly earns millions a month, while TE2 lavishes various hunks with expensive gifts.Seems the TEs are trying to upstage Marie Antoinette. While they roll around in dough, they have the chutzpah to ask their underlings to sacrifice and not claim overtime pay.

Separate carsCelebrity cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo insists that she

and consultant/yoga instructor Al Galang are not sweethearts. “He’s not my ka-loveteam,” she pleaded to the media. She explained that he was just behind her company’s latest project: The Belofied Application on iPad.After the project’s launch, the rumored couple left the venue together. At the parking lot, however, they went their separate ways.A witness reported that while she proceeded to her own car, the guy hailed a taxi cab.Make of that what you will.

Show in dangerPopular Program is in danger of getting axed.

Is that why one of its Controversial Mainstays left in a huff—like a rat abandoning a sinking ship? Hmm, perhaps. Are the bosses just waiting for Intriguing Starlet to go on vacation before making it official? Because timing is everything at this point, that would allow IS a graceful exit.

Devil worshipperCast and crew alike were never fond of Show biz Insider.Whenever other people chatted about religion on the set, SI butted in, deriding their beliefs and cracking that they should be worshipping the devil instead. They would then cross themselves, silently praying that SI was joking. But SI was almost always dead serious. When SI had to leave the project, coworkers heaved a sigh of relief, freed from a very toxic colleague.

Bad beautyBeautiful Starlet could’ve zoomed straight to the top. Alas, a lousy attitude derailed her progress.Coworkers complain that BS is a prima donna and refuse to work with her and her Overbearing Manager. Both act like spoiled brats on the set.Perhaps noticing that her projects were becoming infrequent, BS tried to mend her ways. But it could be a case of too late the heroine.

Career changeAlthough Aging Hunk claims that Gay Benefactor was a lover, a reliable mole insists that the rumor is only half-true.GB had invited AH to a “getting-to-know-you” date, much like an audition. As was his practice, GB asked AH to strip on this very first encounter—checking out the merchandise, of course.Unimpressed, GB asked AH to act as a “procurer” instead and to introduce him to other so-called “professionals” in Show Town.

Kathryn Bernardo’s first impression of love teammate Daniel Padilla: “Mayabang na playboy—ganun! Outside niya lang ’yung parang maangas, pero kapag nakilala mo siya, super bait, super gentleman.” (Even Superman has an alter ego.)

Kathryn on Daniel’s looks: “Basta may something sa kanya … malakas ’yung dating niya.” (Signal No. 3 o Intensity 7 kaya?)

Daniel, asked if the sweetness between him and Kathryn is just for show: “Ayoko po ’yung makapag-promo lang. Talagang si Kathryn po’y gusto ko talaga. Kumbaga, kung tratuhin ko si Kathryn, isang prinsesa talaga.” (Hello, Uncle Robin, is that you?)

Sen. Chiz Escudero on rumors linking him to Heart Evangelista: “There’s nothing really at this point. We’ve met on several occasions. The conversations were good.” (Sounds like an academic pursuit.)

Carla Abellana on her relationship with Geoff Eigenmann: “We are going strong, we are very happy, we continue to love and take good care of each other.” (And we are so green.)

Iza Calzado on what’s more important between winning an acting award and having a high-rating show: “Both are important, but of course, if you give a good performance, then you could win an award; then you could have good ratings.” (Then you could give good answers like this one.)

Richard Yap, asked if he’s getting used to his newfound fame: “You just need to get used to people wanting to take pictures with you. It’s not easy for me because I’m shy.” (It will come.)

Kylie Padilla on being single: “Puwede palang maging masaya nang single.” (Yes, girl. No one is born already with a boyfriend.)

Rachelle Ann Go on being linked to Aljur Abrenica: “Para po siyang baby brother ko, eh. At hello, ate niya ’ko!” (Stranger things have happened, actually.)

Jasmine Curtis-Smith on doing a duet with big sis Anne: “Naku, baka ’di tumigil ang bagyo! We all sing, but we can’t sing!” (Honesty is the best policy, as they say.)

Pokwang on allegedly being haunted by her dead son’s spirit:

“Sana hindi siya ’yun kasi gusto ko happy na siya … siguro gusto niya munang siguraduhin na OK kami.” (Moms are never scared.)

Wally Bayola on fame: “Minsan ’di pa kami makapaniwala. Parang feeling namin binobola kami kapag may nagsasabing, ‘Uy, pwede daw bang magpa-picture!’” (Enjoy it while it lasts, show biz fame is fleeting. )

Sam Pinto on winning FHM sexiest woman for the second straight year: “Sobrang surprised ako. This is crazy!…Ngayon maghahanda ako sa rampa. ’Di na ako kakain!” (Girl, your curves got you that. ’Di magan-da ang sobrang payat.)

Jackie Rice, asked if she’s already living in with her non-show biz boyfriend: Hindi, kasama ko po ’yung dad ko sa bahay …”(Oo nga. Ang hirap kaya mag-live-in habang si Daddy nasa bahay pa.)

by Lolit SolisBahkeet? Comedy King

Dolphy Sampung Minuto Lang Nagtagal Sa Kanilang Bahay

“Dolphy made us laugh for decades and exuded kindness despite his fame and stature. Filipinos will miss him so. There is only one Dolphy, and his legacy will never be forgotten. In these times of overwhelming loss, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to ZsaZsa and the entire Quizon family.”

Annabelle Magpapakondisyon Sa Kampanya Kaya

PNoy Declares Day of Remembrance for DolphyMANILA, Philippines - President

Benigno Aquino on Thursday declared Friday, July 13, 2012 as National Day of Remembrance for the late king of Philippine comedy Dolphy.

Aquino issued the declaration in Proclamation 433.

“The President issued the proclamation in recognition of how the nation deeply feels the passing of Dolphy. In the proclamation, the President cited Dolphy as a man who will live on in Philippine cultural history—and in the hearts of many of his countrymen,” deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a press statement.

“President Aquino in his proclamation said that every milestone that Dolphy marked in a career that spanned decades, raised the standards of the entertainment industry, and strengthened our cultural identity, giving innumerable aspirants an example to look up to,” she said.

Valte said Aquino also cited Dolphy’s philanthrophy and generosity towards other people.

“In citing Dolphy’s life and career, the President in his proclamation said it is appropriate to mark the memory of Mr. Quizon’s contributions to Philippine culture, arts, and entertainment,” she

said.Valte said it is not a non-working

holiday. She added that the proclamation does

not require flags to be flown at half staff and no moment of silence will be held Friday.

Valte said the emphasis is on celebrating Dolphy’s life and not his passing.

“The President’s proclamation is in

keeping with the wishes expressed by the late Dolphy himself, and his family, that he be remembered not with sadness, but with the same warmth and joy he brought to the lives of millions throughout his career,” Valte said in her statement.

‘Dolphy’s greatest gift’“Even as we grieve the loss of a cultural

icon and a master of his field, we should never forget that Dolphy made generations of Filipinos laugh; he was unparalleled in tapping into our inherently jovial spirit—that both challenges and triumphs could be met with optimism and cheer; and that therefore, this was the greatest gift he gave

the Filipino people, and this is the kindness that he will always be remembered for,” she added.

The Day of National Remembrance for Dolphy will allow Filipinos to reflect on the late comedian’s art and artistry, his kindness and generosity, and deep patriotism, Valte said.

“The President asks all our countrymen to make this Day of Remembrance a celebration of the full life that Dolphy, with utmost generosity, shared with the country,” she added.

Valte earlier told radio dzMM that the Palace received several proposals to declare a national day of mourning for Dolphy.

She said the President has the discretion to make such a declaration “if there is something that happens that has a significance on the country.”

The Day of Remembrance for the late comedian is neither a regular nor a special holiday. Work and classes in government offices and public schools will not be

suspended.Aquino visits wakePresident Aquino also visited Dolphy’s

wake at the Heritage Park in Taguig City on Thursday to pay his last respects to the Philippines’ king of comedy.

Aquino was welcomed by the comedian’s long-time partner singer Zsa Zsa Padilla and their daughter Zia Quizon.

The President arrived with Transportation and Communications Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II to pay respects to the late veteran actor.

On a congressman’s proposal to declare June 10 every year as “Dolphy Day,” Valte said, “We will leave it first to the legislature on how to deal with that particular bill and we’ll study it when it reaches the Executive.”

In 2009, then-President Gloria Arroyo declared 10 days of national mourning following the death of former President Corazon Aquino on August 1, 2009.

All flags in government buildings were flown at half-staff from August 1 to August 10, 2009.

Meantime, friends, fans and colleagues of Dolphy continue to flock to the Heritage Park in Taguig City.

Among those who visited today were Senator Lito Lapid, who co-starred

with Dolphy in a number of movies, and former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

Fans also brought memorabilia of the Comedy King which they offered to the family.

The wake was open to the public until 3 p.m. Thursday.

It will be open to the public again on Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dolphy died Tuesday after a long bout with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Wala Na Ang ‘Tatay’ Ni Willieng kanilang ama.

Power Shows on ABS-CBN’S Saturday Afternoon Block

ABS-CBN will gives its viewers a news and information-fortified Saturday as it boosts its late afternoon block featuring “SOCO: Scene of the Crime Operatives,” “Failon Ngayon,” and “TV Patrol Weekend” starting this Saturday (July 14). More Filipinos will be able to watch Gus Abelgas search for justice as the country’s premier crime investigation program “SOCO: Scene of the Crime Operatives” moves to an earlier timeslot on Saturdays at 4 p.m. Gus said the shift will not only attract more viewers for the program but also ignite vigilance, concern, and awareness among Filipinos of the extent of criminality in society. “It’s time they became part of our community’s campaign against crime and violence. From ‘SOCO,’ viewers will learn to be responsible, watchful, and might even

encourage them inform authorities of any wrongdoing. They will not only be interested in the program but also in the resolution of the featured cases,” Gus said. For its first weekend offering, Gus investigates a notorious religious sect founded by Antonio Dumala Faelnar who claims to be God’s messenger and even went as far as putting up a headquarters that he refers to as the paradise where he and his disciples wait for the coming of God. The sect’s devotees are promised salvation but instead, they are punished, suffer lashing, and even raped by the ‘Chief’ whenever they disobey him. ‘Mang Jess,’ a native of Mindanao, shares his story with Gus and how he was instantly lured by the Chief’s disciples to join what they call the Global Empire Government Covenant. Award-winning broadcast journalist Ted Failon will then come in at 4:45 p.m. to address

and find solutions to the most pressing issues in the country today in “Failon Ngayon.” This Saturday, Ted will look into the Entertainment City Manila proposed by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) that is said to be anomalous because the officials backing it have been involved in irregular transactions and gaming investments.Keep abreast of the latest news and social issues by watching “SOCO” with Gus Abelgas, “Failon Ngayon” with Ted Failon, and “TV Patrol Weekend” with Pinky Webb and Alvin Elchico, Saturday afternoons on ABS-CBN. Sarah Geronimo Shines

Sarah Geronimo giggled a lot and chattered like a teenager during her concert on Saturday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

But though she hardly acted her age—she’s turning 24 on July 25, hence the show’s title, “24/SG”—Sarah personified maturity when she sang. Her voice had not radically changed, but it seemed she had more control and was able to convey mood and emotion without relying too much on power.

Fun bashAfter the obligatory bongga

opening numbers in which she evoked desire and sensuality via Beyonce’s “Beautiful

Nightmare,” Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been,” Sarah’s growth as a singer was apparent in the succeeding tunes—her personal favorites, she said.

These included The Script’s “I’m Falling to Pieces” and Christina Perri’s “Jar of Hearts” —songs about pain and being vulnerable which, whether or not Sarah had experienced in real life, sounded genuine in her renditions.

Yet she looked bashful and laughed nervously at the end of that set, again revealing her shy-girl nature.

The concert—mounted by Sarah’s management, Viva—was an advance birthday bash, which meant it had to be fun. That was best handled by comic Jon Santos, whose quirky impressions of Dionisia Pacquiao (Mommy Dyuning), Annabelle Rama (Annabelle Drama), Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago (Miriam Defensive) and Vilma Santos (Ate Vee) certainly left the audience in stitches.

“24/SG” will have a repeat on July 21 at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

6Cyclemind Moves Forward 6Cyclemind has

come a long way since its inception in early 2000. With five successful full-length albums (Permission To Shine, Panorama, Home and Fiesta and Project: 6Cyclemind) and over a dozen memorable radio singles to the band’s name including such anthems as Biglaan, Sandalan, Magsasaya, Aaminin, Kasalanan, and the ultimate paean to countless late-night drinking sessions, Sige, these prove that the band has already cemented its place in OPM history until the unexpected happened. Lead singer Ney Dimaculangan suddenly left the group, citing burnout as the reason. The band members were caught in a dilemma. The question in their mind was: Should they quit or continue? Thankfully, they decided on the latter, forging onwards with drummer Tutti Caringal stepping front and center to sing. It worked.

The fans welcomed the change. And the gigs kept coming, and the fresh, new incarnation of 6Cyclemind is able to further endear itself

to its followers. But recording a new album is a different matter altogether.

Wanting to reintroduce themselves as a brand-new band with a brand-new sound, 6Cyclemind did not want to rely on the old formulas and the usual routines. But the question is, how will the band go about it?

Enter Raimund Marasigan who, having lost the vocalist of his band Sandwich prior in a similar situation, shared the trepidation of the group. He went on to urge the band to soldier on to produce and play drums on the new record. And so it was that both band and producer joined forces, wasting no time working on the songs they had ready with Buddy Zabala

and Jessie Grinter joining in to tackle the challenge.

According to the band members, it was like going back to their first day in college, not knowing anything and being completely out of their comfort zones. The resulting 11-track album, Good By Sunday, is a revelation. The most obvious change, of course, is the singing, but it is evident in the album’s overall

sound that this is a different 6Cyclemind altogether.

As Bob himself describes it, “Good By Sunday sounds quite unlike the 6Cyclemind of old — it stepped up its game and sounded reinvigorated, more mature and confident.”

“We think Good By Sunday is a good title of an album aside from the fact that it is the only English track in the album. With regards to the other album, well, Good By Sunday is totally different. This is the new 6Cyclemind music. No one can duplicate the others. Every song here defines the new music of 6Cyclemind from track one to 11. It’s totally new,” he adds.

TV Networks unite for Dolphy

Petite Styles & Fashions:5 Tip on What to Wear, What to Avoid

If you’re one of the millions of petite women in the world who need fashion tips on learning how to dress short legs or a small stature, use these beauty tips to help you get the best look every day!

Trick #1 Dress In One ColorIf you want to create an illusion that

you’re taller than you actually are, you can quickly do so by dressing all in one color, from your blouse to your shoes. If you want dramatic results, even be sure your tights or hosiery are of the same color. This will instantly give you the illusion of being taller and if you choose dark colors like black, charcoal, navy or purple you can even get a slimming effect at the same time.Trick #2 Choose A Fitted Style

Whether you’re a size 2 or a size 22, if you’re petite you will look best if you wear fitted clothing. The term “fitted” doesn’t mean tight. It simply means clothes which are tacked to accentuate your small areas and give you room in the bigger areas. A fitted shirt under a fitted jacket can make you look sleeker and taller. Be sure you don’t wear heavy fabrics, because they can add bulk to your torso area and make you look heavier than you are. Fashion lines from well known brands like Ann Taylor are the perfect places to begin when looking for petite fitted clothing.

Trick #3 Forgo The MiniIf you’re under 5’3 it can be very risky

for you to wear a mini skirt, as they typically will make your legs look shorter

and chunky. Most mini skirts fall across the thickest part of a petite woman’s thigh, making your legs look less slim. Instead, choose a calf length pencil skirt with heels that will give you an instant visual height boost.

Trick #4 Straight Leg PantsTo make your legs look slimmer

and longer, be sure you always opt for straight leg pants. Pick pants with no bulky pockets, cuffs or pleats, as well.

Trick #5 Layer, Layer, LayerIf you feel pretty comfortable with

the rules of what to wear on a petite body frame and you want to take your fashion knowledge even further, you can experiment with layers. By wearing a bust length sweater over a small pattern dress you can instantly make your torso look longer, giving your visual line added height. In addition, by trying something simple like layering a shorter tank under a long tank, you can get visually height. Just be careful with layers with casual clothing, because if you’re an older lady you can end up looking inappropriately girlish.

Overall, learning how to dress a petite body is a lot about trial and error. Be sure to examine your outfit closely to see if it does anything to make you look slimmer and taller or if it seems to make you look short and stubby. After careful examination and using these rules, you’ll be on the best track to dressing your petite body in the most flattering way possible!

4 Fashion Tips to Flawlessly Accessorize Any Outfit

Jewelry Is Not the only AccessorySure, jewelry is an easy way to use accessories to create the look you want. However, it’s not the only area of accessories you should consider trying. You can completely change the vibe of clothing by using the power of a handbag or shoes. Think about it. If you’re wearing jeans, sporting tennis shoes and carrying a simple cloth purse, your look will be totally casual. However, if you take those same jeans and add fashion forward high heels and a crocodile skin designer handbag, your look totally changes.

Don’t over Do it on the AccessoriesThe worst way to accessorize is to completely overdo it. While the current trends encourage a multitude of bangles, layer upon layer of necklaces and dangling earrings, it’s important to not go overboard. If you like accessorizing with the trendy layers of jewelry, be sure you stick with one main layering area. For example, never wear twenty bangles along with six necklaces. Choose either the necklaces or the bracelets and skip wearing bold jewelry on any other area of your body while experimenting with this specific trend. I good rule of thumb is to accessorize all you’d like and then before going out, remove at least one item. This will always keep you from overdoing it

and help you avoid looking trashy!

Inexpensive Jewelry Saves The Day– No one Will Know

While it’s not everything, there is great ease in accessorizing with jewelry. You can start with a blank canvas, like your favorite Little Black Dress, and make it into anything you want, by adding a trendy earring, belt or bracelet. Lots of women hesitate to use jewelry as their main accessories because it’s so expensive. However, even celebrities like Jennifer Lopez wear fake jewels so don’t be shy about using faux gold, silver or jewels to dress up your outfit. Just be sure you buy higher quality faux jewelry if you want it to last a while. The really cheap stuff usually tarnishes quickly. You can find very inexpensive items at stores like Claire’s or Forever 21.

use Your JacketMost fashion experts agree an outfit is not usually complete without a jacket. Even in the warmest months, they recommend you wear a jacket, sweater or scarf of some sort to complete your look. So, be brave and experiment with what looks best on you. Remember, jackets that highlight the smallest part of your waist are always a great choice for any body type.
