Pinzones de las Galpagos

13 especies de pinzones

Picos: modificados para romper semillas,

perforar la madera, capturar insectos etc.

Un antecesor comn se encontr en las islas. Radiacin adaptativa: Los descendientes de

diferentes islas modificaron sus picos y cuerpos

para adaptarse a su entorno.

Nota historica: Darwin no puso atencin alprincipio en los pinzones, sino en los reptiles de

las islas que le impresionaron profundamente.

ALIMENTACION

Algunos comen semillas y otros insectos. Otros

como el terrestre se comen los huevos de

las Tortugas Gigantes y de las Iguanas terrestres.

En la Isla Wolf en Galpagos, la especie terrestrede pico afilado es conocido como El

Vampiroporque se alimenta de la sangre que

succiona a los Piqueros Enmascarados y de

Patas Rojas. El pinzn carpintero y el de pantano usan una

pequea pajilla o una espina de cactus para sacar

las larvas de las ramas y troncos de los rboles

muertos.
