W e are very pleased to announce July’s Gifted Children Program event. Please join us for our most exciting activity yet. We will be con-structing and flying model rockets. This activ-

ity is appropriate for all ages, and there will be a little something for everyone. The event will be held on two separate Saturdays. On Saturday, July 16, 2-4PM we will meet at the East Library in the large community meeting room to build the rockets. Kits will be available – hopefully enough for anyone that wants to build. Members of COSROCS (Colorado Springs Rocketry Soci-ety) http://www.cosrocs.org/ will be there to help with the builds and to give a slide show presentation on the science be-hind rocketry.

We will launch our mag-nificent creations at C O S R O C S r e g u l a r monthly launch event. This is held on the fourth Saturday of every month (weather and conditions permitting). July’s launch will be on Saturday, July 23, beginning at 9AM or earlier. The launch takes place at Challenger Mid-dle School: 10215 Lexing-ton Drive, in the Briargate area. For more details and a map to the launch site,

see the COSROCS website, under “Rocktivities”. Information about the launch event will be made available at the build ses-sion. If conditions cause the July launch to be canceled, we will plan on going in August. The launch events are open to the pub-lic, so anyone can go individually to any of the launches and send a rocket skyward.

Gifted Children’s Program by Sean McCormick We hope to see you at these or any future GCP events. Remem-ber, whether you are a member under 18, or you are a member and have children under 18, the Plains and Peaks Gifted Chil-dren Program is yours! At some events, attendees are even en-couraged to bring a non-member guest or two. For more information about the Plains & Peaks Mensa Gifted Children Program or gifted youth in general, or to join the mail-ing list, you can contact Sean McCormick, the Gifted Children C o o r d i n a t o r , e i t h e r b y e m a i l a t [email protected] or on my cell phone at (719) 651-6706.

Announcement Anyone else out there a fan of "Storage Wars"? Want to get in on the action? Auctions of storage units happen several times a month here in Colorado Springs. I think it would be a hoot to form a sort of Mensa consortium, buy a unit, and see what we come up with! I'm thinking each person would kick in $50 or $100 and away we'd go! If you think this might be fun, too, e-mail Al at [email protected] and let's plan to make some plans!

meet at 4:30, have a drink in Kimball’s full service bar, select a movie to attend together, and then afterwards, have another drink and/or dinner and discuss the movie. We’ll be taking a chance on what Kimball’s is showing on this date - but you never know! Could be the best movie you’ve ever seen!! Saturday, July 23rd, beginning at 9 am (or earlier). We’ll launch our magnificent creations at COSROCS regular monthly launch event. The launch takes place at Challenger Middle School: 10215 Lexington Drive, in the Briargate area. For more details and a map to the launch site, see the COSROCS website, under “Rocktivities”. Information about the launch event will be made available at the build session. If conditions cause the July launch to be canceled, we will plan on going in August. The launch events are open to the public, so anyone can go individu-ally to any of the launches and send a rocket skyward. Thursday, July 28th, 8:00 pm: RSVP for Ultimate Saturday Supper by contacting Al Ackerson, 635-4910 or [email protected] Saturday, July 30th, 6:30 pm: Ultimate Saturday Supper: Outback Steak House. Boomerangs, Aussie flags, kangaroo portraits and faux aboriginal art honor the homeland's wilder-ness, but Outback delivers a polished version of rusticity with varnished blond-wood booths with matching wainscoting and casually uniformed waitstaff. Besides more than a half-dozen cuts of steak, diners can pick from large-portioned entrees like ribs, chops and shrimp or chicken "on the barbie." The Bloomin' Onion, a large onion dipped in batter and deep-fried, is an appe-tizer with a following. Give Al a call, 635-4910, or e-mail him at [email protected], by 28 July if you want a place at the table at 2895 New Center Point. Advance Notice: August 20th: Mountain Munchies at RC’s! Heads Up! And up the mountain we go! To RC and Connie’s house outside of Florissant for our annual BBQ, RC’s Chili Fest, picnic and hummingbird watching! Mark your calendars’ now for the super supper event! Advanced Advance Notice: 30 September 2011 – 2 October 2011: Mini-RG in Cripple Creek. "Going up to Cripple Creek, going on a run, going up to Cripple Creek to have a little fun!" We did this a number of years ago and it was a hoot! We blocked off a num-ber of rooms in one of the local hotels and then dispersed to frolic in the tenuous air of the world’s greatest gold camp! Things to do in Cripple Creek include the Aspen tours, riding the Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow-Gauge Railroad, visiting the Cripple Creek District Museum, Cripple Creek Heritage Center, Lowell Thomas Museum, Old Homestead House Mu-seum, and Outlaws and Lawmen Jail Museum, plunging into the Mollie Kathleen Mine Tour, prowling the Mt. Pisgah Ceme-tery, and maybe catching the Thin Air Theater Company at the Butte Theater, depending on when we go, and, of course, gam-bling! This is just a heads-up; more details coming!

Saturday, July 9th, 6:30 pm: Main Monthly Meeting: Guest Speaker Skee Hipszky, Deputy Ops Director, El Paso County Search & Rescue. These folks are in the business of saving us when we make wrong choices out hiking and climbing. And they don’t charge a dime! Come listen to rescue stories and get some good advice for enjoying the Colorado mountain air! We’ll be meeting at Sandy’s house, 6066 Del Rey Drive (near Flintridge and Dublin) in Colorado Springs. Allergy alert – dogs and cats. For directions, call 528-5483 or email [email protected]. Sunday, July 10th, 3:30 pm: ExComm Meeting and Tapas. Join us for a short (very short) business meeting and tapas at Tapate-ria (2607 West Colorado in Old Colorado City). Tapateria is owned by the same people who own Pizzeria Rustica and this new restaurant has already won several awards! You can get a preview of their tapas and wines at www.tapateria.com. As al-ways, all Mensa members and their guests are invited to this event. Tuesday, July 12th, 6:00 pm: Trivia at Old Chicago’s! We’re playing NTN Buzztime Old Chicago’s, 7115 Commerce Center Drive (I-25 and Woodman). Good eats, good prices, and plenty of TVs to look at and control boxes to play with. Look for a Mensa “M” flag at a table in the bar and join us for a fast paced Trivia round! Thursday, July 14th, 8:00 pm: Reservations for Texas Hold 'em due!! Call Dave and Jen at 442-6451 for RSVP, directions, and other specifics about this event! Saturday, July 16th, 2-4 pm: GC and COSROCS! We’ll meet at the East Library (5550 N. Union Blvd) in the large community meeting room to build rockets. Kits will be available – hopefully enough for anyone that wants to build. Members of COSROCS (Colorado Springs Rocketry Society, www.cosrocs.org) will be there to help with the builds and to give a slide show presenta-tion on the science behind rocketry. What we build, we launch … on the 23rd! Please note: This event is open to all Plains & Peaks members! For more information, you can contact Sean McCormick, our Gifted Children Coordinator, either by email at [email protected] or on my cell phone at (719) 651-6706. Saturday, July 16th, 6:00 pm: Texas Hold’em Poker Night. YOU MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS FOR THIS EVENT! Dave & Jen will host a Texas Hold 'em "tournament." Beginners are wel-come. Snacks and diet sodas will be provided. Bring your own drinks if you want something else. Adults only, please! There will be a dealer's choice table available for those who want to continue playing poker after they get eliminated from the tour-ney. Sunday, July 17th, 4:30 pm: Kimball’s Peak Three Movie! Join some of your fellow Mensans at Kimball’s, which is a downtown (Pikes Peak and Tejon) first run movie theater showing “the very best of current independent and foreign films.” The plan is to

I've been to a lot of places, but I've never been in Cahoots.

Apparently you can't go alone, you have to be in Cahoots with someone.

I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.

I have, however, been in Sane.

They don't have an airport------apparently you have to be driven there
