GULGGUNNEDAH URBAN LANDCARE GROUP

The following tree and shrub species are recognised as important food and shelter trees for koalas in the Gunnedah region. Planting these trees will benefit koalas by providing food and shelter.

It is crucial to plant the most suitable trees for your soil type and position in the landscape. If a tree is growing in a less than ideal location, it will suffer moisture and nutrient stress, and produce chemicals that discourage koalas from eating them.

Use the information overleaf to determine which species will be most suitable at your place. All the trees listed are valuable to koalas; those highlighted in yellow appear to be most favoured.

Where possible, to maximise koala use of new trees, plant next to existing remnant native vegetation or create a corridor between remnants.
