    THE LEGEND OF DURHAM

Legend has it that the “bullpen” originated from the area of shaded grass beyond the outfield wall where pitchers warmed up. The cooler ground was created by the large bull-shaped billboards for Bull Durham Tobacco, a subsidiary of American Tobacco, and the original owner of the Durham Bulls.
