Children’s Summer Sunday School After dismissal of the children from service, they are welcome to attend Sunday School. Today the children
will be in the gym.
Feeding the Hungry August 27th
We again will be serving a meal at Central UMC for the hungry in that community. We are requesting donations of cold salads, i.e. potato salad, pasta salad, macaroni salad, or bean salad. Please call Jeanne Smith at 913-825
-1480 with any questions.
United Methodist Youth Stockholders Banquet
Please join us for a very nice meal, images from the mission trip, and personal stories from each of the youth who participated. The banquet will be held here at Valley View, on August 28 from 5-7PM. For those of you who supported the mission trip by purchasing stock, the cost of your meal was included as part of your
donation.
All Stockholders will receive an invitation in the mail, but in reality everyone is invited. If you were not able to make a donation earlier this summer, you are still welcome to join us, we just ask for a donation to offset the cost of the meal, if you
are able.
Next Week in Worship
Faith and Firearms On Sunday, Sept. 11, 3:30-5:30, Dr. Jeanne Hoeft professor at St. Paul School of Theology will lead us in learning more about the realities surrounding gun violence in the U.S. and discuss the role of faith and the church in reducing gun
violence.
Dr. Hoeft will share some of her research on violence, presenting facts about the use of guns, the prevalence of gun violence, and the characteristics of shooters and victims. The class will explore the meaning of guns in the US, especially in rural communities, and the various sides of the gun control debates from a theological rather than
constitutional perspective.
School Supply Drive
The Outreach Committee will
be collecting school supplies in
the months of July and August
for the children who come to
Hope Chest. These items can
be placed in the little red
school house in the coffee
fellowship area.
Here is a list of items:

Mission Moments August 14
International: Indigenous Women's Vegetable Gardening and Leadership Project in Guatemala. Guatemala's rural areas have faced deteriorating political and economic situations in recent years. Over 50 percent of the population lives in extreme poverty, unable to afford basic sustenance or produce their own food. The ministry is using organic family and community gardens to augment Mayan women's food security and leadership. The women are being trained by agronomists in agroecological (organic, sustainable and local) farming, and will establish communal and backyard vegetable gardens. They, in
turn, will train an estimated 850 more women in their communities.
Domestic: Scott’s Run Settlement House, Osage, WV. Through a variety of feeding programs such as a food pantry and backpack feeding program, the agency promotes health and wellness for individuals, families, and seniors in Monongalia County, West Virginia. An active wellness and recreation program for seniors, it provides
access to relevant information, activities and community.
Local Church Ministry: Valley View Early Learning Center, Inc. A ministry of Valley View United Methodist Church. This is a new name for our weekday programs! We offer childcare, Parents Day Out and Preschool. Leona Murphy is the Program Director. The assistant Director is Meridith Hunt and Shelley Dopp is the Administrative
Assistant.
