D range (below) C range (17.5 to 20 pts) B range (20-22.5 pts) A range (22.5-25 pts)
• Student is hard to understand and has to be asked to repeat himself/herself.
• Student is monotone and shows no purpose or feeling.
• Student does not understand the poem and cannot communicate meaning.
• Student clearly does not know the words of the poem.
• Student cannot continue after being prompted.
• Student has clearly not practiced the poem.
• Student speaks quietly and is sometimes hard to hear and understand.
• Student does not really convey any purpose or feeling.
• Student does not seem to understand the meaning of the poem and/or is not able to communicate it.
• Student stumbles multiple times and makes multiple errors.
• Student struggles to continue after being prompted.
• Student is generally not confident and is definitely uncomfortable.
• Student for the most part speaks loudly and enunciates clearly.
• Student for the most part speaks with purpose and feeling.
• Student seems to understand the meaning of the poem and is able to communicate it.
• Student makes a few small errors in the words of the poem.
• Student needs to be prompted only once or twice.
• Student seems a little uncomfortable and doesn’t seem to have much confidence in his/her ability to recite the poem.
• Student speaks loudly and enunciates clearly.
• Student pronounces every word correctly.
• Student speaks with purpose and feeling.
• Student knows every word of the poem precisely.
• Student does not need to be prompted at all.
• Student has clearly practiced reciting the poem and is comfortable and confident.
• Student performs rather than just recites the poem.
