The use of mobile computers, GPS solutions, au- tonomous vehicles have revolutionized logistics. With spring around the corner, I am delighted to wish everyone a happy Saint Patrick’s Day! The

months of April and May mark the beginning of brighter day filled with warmer weather and new prospects. Person-ally, I am eager to celebrate the transitioning into the upcoming events here at ISM NJ. Such event includes; April breakfast meeting, various interactive webinars, and the supplier diversity night in May. How Exciting!! The April breakfast meet-

ing will include a networking breakfast followed by a brief business meeting and presentation by Carlos Fernan-dez from UPS. Next few months will contain various webinars from conflict management to strategic sourcing. The supplier diversity night introduces dif-ferent organizations an opportunity to network with diverse suppliers. Debo-rah E. Collins, Consultant and Former Deputy County Administrator, Director, Essex County Office of Small Business Development and Affirmative Action is our Keynote speaker on the evening of May 1st. ISM NJ strives in organizing vari-ous events and speakers to benefit ISM NJ members, students. With longer days, I am looking forward to spending more time com-mitted towards my hobbies. It is very

important to instill work-life balance in our daily lives. This allows individuals to diversify their time allowing them to perform optimally at work; while, spending quality time with family, friends et al.

Carlos Fernandez is an Indus-trial Engineer Manager at UPS in the New Jersey area. He graduated and received

his B.S. of Engineering from NJIT and MBA with a Corporate Finance Concentration from Rutgers University. Carlos Fernandez started working for UPS as a part time load handler while attending NJIT. After receiving his B.S.

in Engineering, he was later promoted and has made multiple rotations in his career working in operations, engineer-ing, marketing, and operational excel-lence. Currently, Carlos is responsible for the planning and coordinating the utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and staff to improve efficien-cies in 17 facilities in NJE area. He is also responsible for deploying and

coordinating new emerging technolo-gies. He is assisting in the completion of multiple projects of expansion in the New Jersey and New York Area. He is an active member of the Latino Busi-ness Resource Unit and a member of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engi-neers. Carlos is also a loyal member of the UPS United Way Foundation.
