POLAND Slide 2 Republic of Poland is in Central Europe, situated on the Baltic Sea and borders with 7 country: Germany, the Czech Republic,Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Russia. The area of Poland is about 313 km 2, making it the 9th largest in Europe. We have a population of over 38.5 million people, which makes us the sixth most populous member of the European Union. Slide 3 Warsow is the largest city and has been the capital since the XVII th century. Slide 4 Our national anthem is the song called Mazurek Dbrowskiego. We have no king or queen. The head of state is the president These are president Bronisaw Komorowski and prime Minister Donald Tusk Slide 5 Poland is a member of the European Union, NATO, the United Nations. Slide 6 History The establishment of a Polish state is often identified with the adoption of Christianity by Mieszko I in 966. Mieszko I Slide 7 The Kingdom of Poland was formed in 1025, and in 1569 took place The Union of Lublin. From this time on Poland and Lithuania were known as The Republik of Both Nations, which stoped to exist in 1795 as Poland were partitioned among Prussia, Russia and Austria. Slide 8 Poland didnt forget about homeland. It took every chance to free themselves as January Uprising, November Uprising and with Napoleon Bonaparte. Poland appears back on the maps of Europe in 1918 after 123 years. Slide 9 In September 1939 World War II started with Germany and the Soviet Union invasion of our country. Over six million Polish citizens died in the war. After the Secend World War ended, communism came to our country. Slide 10 In 1989 The Round Table gathers Polish communism leaders and of Solidarity was the end of communism in Poland and the beginning of the fall of the communism in the rest of Europe. Slide 11 Geography- the most interesting regions Slide 12 biggest part of Poland. Uplands and highlands are located in the more mountainous south. The Vistula, Odra, Warta and Bug are Poland's main rivers. The rivers flow from south to north. Lowland is the Slide 13 region along the seacoast. The landscape is dominated by lakes, rivers, bays, deltas, dunes and seaside cliffs running along wide and sandy beaches. An interesting region is the uawy area, where depressions is 1,8 m below sea level. Pomerania Slide 14 region famous for hundreds of lakes, bays, meadows and hillocks. There are over 9,300 lakes in Poland. The largest and the most popular is the Masurian Lake District in the north east. This area is also famous for primeval forests which are home to old trees, rare plants and wild animals. Lakeland Slide 15 with their highest range Krakonosze and the highest peak Sniezka (1602 m). There is lower range in this area such as Gry Stoowe famous for amazing rock forms that create corridors and labirynths. /Pictures form school trip/ Sudeten Mountains Slide 16 Carpathian Mountains with many linked chains. The highest range with many spectacular tarns, alps and caves is the Tatra Mountains. The highest peak in the Tatras is Rysy (2499 m). Mikoaj Kopernik Slide 19 made a kerosene lamp and invented a way to refine kerosene. Ignacy ukasiewicz Slide 20 national hero, general and a leader of the Kociuszko Uprising against the Russian Empire. He fought in the American Revolutionary War. Because of his service he was brevetted by the Continental Congress to the rank of Brigadier General. Tadeusz Kociuszko Slide 21 was Polish composer and virtuoso pianist. He is widely considered as one of the greatest Romantic piano composers. His works are recognized in all over the Word. Fredric Chopin Slide 22 famous physicist and chemist, who was a pionier in radioactivity research, the first double Nobel laureathe, the onle one ever in two different science and the first female profesor at Sorbone. Maria Skodowska Curie Slide 23 the first Polish Pope in history, was one of the most influential leaders of the 20th century. He helped to end Communist rule in Poland. John Paul II improved the Catholic Church's relations with other religions. Was beatified on 1 May 2011. John Paul II Slide 24 a politician and human right activist. He was a lider of Solidarity, won the Nobel Peace Prize. Than he was a president of Poland. Lech Wasa Slide 25 The Nobel Prizes in Literature were won by 4 Polish writers. Academy Awards winners were 5 Polish movie directors Jerzy Kukuczka climber, the second man to climb all fourteen eight-thousanders in the Word and the first man to climb three of them in winter. Slide 26 The most popular sports in Poland Slide 27 Football Football is the most popular sport in Poland. Over 400 000 peoples play football regulary. The first professional clubs were founded in the early 1900s, and the Polish national football team played first international match in 1921. In 2012 Poland and Ukraine organized UEFA Euro 2012. Slide 28 Voleyball Volleybal in Poland is nearly as popular as football. The Men's national team is ranked 3rd and the Women's team is ranked 13th in the FIVB World Rankings The best volleyball league in Poland is Plus Liga. Slide 29 Ski Jumping Ski Jumping is one of the most popular sports in Poland. For several years, ski jumping was much popular than football, mostly because of Adam Maysz, who was one of the best ski jumpers in the history of Poland. The first ski jumping competition in Poland took place in Sawsko in 1907. Slide 30 Handball Handball appeared in Poland in 1919. A lot of kids play handball in schools. Polish national team first match took place in 1957. The most important achievements: 1st place in Supercup 2007 2nd place in World Cup 2007 3rd place in Olimpics Games 1976. Slide 31 Motorsports Most popular motorsports in Poland: Formula 1 WRC Speedway Motocross Slide 32 Our region In our region there are four of 14 in Poland sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List Slide 33 Krakw Old Town is the historic central district of Krakw, which was the capitol of Poland from 1038 until King Sigismund III Vasa relocated his court to Warsaw in 1596. Slide 34 The Wieliczka Salt Mine, near Krakw continuously produced table salt from the 13th century. It is believed to be the world's 14th- oldest company. Slide 35 Auschwitz was the largest of the German concentration camps from the Secend World War. More than 1.100 000 men, women and children lost their lives here, The most was Jews. Slide 36 Kalwaria Zebrzydowska park- the religious complex (calvary) founded by Governor of Krakw in 1602. The city of Zebrzydw was established in 1617 in order to house the growing number of pilgrims visiting the religious complex. Slide 37 About 50 km. from our village is other interesting place - acut castle - one of the most beautifly aristocratic residences in Poland, famous for its excellent interiors and extraordinary interesting collection of hourse drawn carriages. Slide 38 Clothes of the Native of Cracow are one of the most beautiful clothes of Polish people. Slide 39 Our school Slide 40 The first records of education in Gowaczowa reach the end of the eighteenth century. In those days a school was built thanks to priest and was a wooden hut with one classroom. During the warfare the building burnt down in the 1944. However, the school was soon restored thanks to the efforts of local people. In 1948, the first bell rang. In those days there were five forms. Next some children continued their education in the nearst villages or town Dbica. Slide 41 The building of todays school was built in 1997. Slide 42 The school comprises 9 teachers / and a few from other school/ and service personnel. Our school counts 70 students on the primary level and 29 in secendary school. Slide 43 In 2010 our school got the name of John Paul II. In the assembly hall there is a sculptured bust and a memorial board of our Pope. Our students set up a "memory chamber" where a lot of exhibits connected to the patron saint can be seen. A Patron Saint Day is a school tradition. It's celebrated annually on the 18 th of May. Slide 44 Apart from the school building with a gym inside it there is also a sports stadium with a football pitch. Our students take part in many different contests gaining very high scores and winning the best places.
