Singing Out: No One Quite Like Me and Glad To Be Me

End of Key Stage 1 objectives: Begin to share their views and

    opinions. Identify and respect differences

    and similarities between people.

Essential skills promoted in the session: Self-reflection Decision making Active listening Communication

Begin by singing No One Quite Like Me or Glad To Be Me Settling in: Play a short ice breaking game that promotes sharing a favourite thing: toy/food/song/game by passing round an item to denote the speaker.Stimulus: Place a range of animal group images in the centre of the circle and encourage the children to identify what is the same about the animals in any of the groups pictured: a picture of a group of leopards, a picture of a school of dolphins, a picture of a group of zebras and picture of a set of twins/triplets. What looks the same about all of the leopards? How are the dolphins the same as each other? What do all of the zebras have in common with each other? What is identical about the twins?Although there are many similarities within the groups of animals, they have things about them that make them totally unique.Key Question: What makes each leopard different from another leopard? Repeat for each group of animals.Answers: leopards spots, dolphins whistles, zebras stripes, twins fingerprints.Time for reflection: Encourage the children to look closely at their own fingerprint and wonder at how, out of all the millions of people who have ever lived, nobody else has the same print as them.Key Question: How else do we differ? Positive conclusion: End by showing the children images of different people from all over the world, celebrating diversity.

Continue the learning:Leave an outline of your school/club logo and leave it in an accessible place near a small inkpad. Encourage children to make their finger print within the logo to emphasise that we are all unique parts of a whole.
