practiceofliterarycriticism.Finally,we’llbegintoexploreculturalstudiesandcriticaltheoryastheyareengagedinthefieldof

Aurorswillserveasclassleaders(Prefects).TheywillcoordinatethepublicationoftheDailyProphetandserveasclasscriticsduringdiscussionofthenovels.Additionally,theAurorsmaychoosetocontributeoneco-authoredarticletoeachissueoftheDailyProphet.LiketheHouses,AurorsshouldmeetforonehouraweekoutsideofclasstoprepareforclassparticipationandtoplanforanddistributetasksassociatedwithproducinganissueofTheDailyProphet.

COLLABORATIVEWRITING(15¼points):

ThreeissuesoftheDailyProphetwillbecollectivelyconceivedandcollaborativelycomposed,oneofwhichbepublishedattheendofeachfourweeksofthetwelveweeks.EachHousewillcontributetwoarticlestoeachissue.Articlesshouldbecollectivelyresearchedandcollaborativelywritten.TheAurorswilltaketheleadindesign,layout,andpublicationofeachissueandmaychoosetocontributeonearticletoeachissue.AllHouseswillaidtheAurorsinthedesign,layout,andpublicationofDailyProphetissues.Ataminimum,thisaidwilltaketheformofrevisingarticlesasrequested,attendingtoanypublicationguidelinesasdevelopedbytheAurors,andbycopyeditingarticlescarefullyundertheguidanceoftheAurors.Studentsareencouragedtobecreativeandinnovativeintheirdesigns,toexperimentwithdigitalmediaandmultimodalcomposition,andtoconsidercarefullyuseraccessandinterfacewitheachissue.

Collaborativelywrittenarticles:co-authoringisharderthanyoumightthink,butitisalso–whendonewell–morerewardingthanyoumightimagine.YoushoulddiscusswithyourhousematesthesubjectofeachofthetwoarticlesyouwillwritetogetherfortheDailyProphet.Onceyouhavedecidedontopics,youmaychoosetoworkalltogetheronbothortodivideintotwogroups.Youshouldtalkextensivelytogetherasyoudraft

Asaclass,wewilldeveloparubricforgradingyourindividualwriting.Theseassignmentsarecreative,buttheyalsocalluponyouasawritertoweaveyourunderstandingofliterarycriticismaddressingtheHarryPotterbooksintoyourwriting.Duringclassdiscussionofthecriticalessayswereadtogether,wewilltalkabouthowtheseessaysarecrafted,forwhataudiencessuchessaysarewritten,andwhatmakesthemmoreorlesseffectivefortheirreaders.Together,we’llusethisanalysistoarticulatethequalitiesofgoodwritinginthegenreofliterarycriticismandcombinethesequalitieswiththosewehavediscussedwithregardtothewritingoffictiontodesignasetofgradingcriteriafortheworkyouwillproduce.
