It was proposed to intervene in the interior of a block public courtyard, in Lisbon, with a building for colle ctive housing and services. Recognizing the relevance and usefulness of the existing garden, the project had, as its principle, its maintenance. Therefore, the building appears as a continuation of the morphological structure of the block. Presenting itself as a bridge-building it creates a new way of crossing the block from side to side. The proposal considers the renovation of two original buildings, in which the new entrances to the garden are made. The building, being a bar sitting over pilotis, appears, not as an obstacle, but as an element that delimits two dif-ferent areas within the garden.

Buenos Aires is one of the most populated cities in Latin America. Still, it has very low density levels. The tradi-tional block, in which the whole urban structure is based upon, has, throughout the times, presented itself as the main topic for reflection concer ning ways of living in the city, having allowed several variations. In the recent past, the appearance of towers has been constant. They allow a huge number of people to be ac-commodated in a small ground floor area, but, so far, have been generating unpleasant public space situations and have a strong visual impact. This exercise proposes a reflection upon the occupation of a block in a way that could accommodate as many inhabitants as a tower, but in lower heights and in a way that would generate more interesting and human public spaces. Therefore, a scheme was developed in order to fit 200 housing units together, as well as services. Two orders of patios were created: smaller private patios that enlighten the galleries and enable ventilation into the units and bigger public patios that interconnect the four groups of 30 units.

“If we can’t try to turn “disgusting” buildings into resources, then there’s no particularly reason to stay in Tokyo” Yoshiharu Tsukamoto
This project is based on a reflection about the relation between infrastructures and the city. Nowadays, there has been a huge growth of urban centers and, consequently, its transport systems. These elements create a transport net that is, itself, another layer within the city. If, on one hand, they exist due to the need that people have of mo ving inside the city, on the other, they can generate complex situations; when it comes to the relations that they establish with other elements of the urban structure. Therefore, the proposal was to develop a pleasant public space that could connect the rail tracks and its surroundings smoothly. An abandoned parking lot with a decadent green park on top was chosen, for being such an interesting case study of the type of hybrid structures that one can find all over Tokyo, but also due to the possibility that is offered by creating ano ther green area in the highly densifyed city center. The par king space was converted into a public area where a group of pavilions was constructed under the existing structure. The area was occupied by restaurants, public baths (sento), sports facilities, a book shop, a cafeteria and a kindergarten. Over the existing slab, the existing abandoned park was redesigned. It is also created another passage under the railway tracks, which connects the book shop and an amphi-theater/gallery, which is the ground floor of a hotel.

The school is biult in Concrete Hallow Blocks, a local and current building technology. Each brick is de-signed to interlock itself with others, like puzzle pieces, avoiding shifts and breaches. This way, no mortar is needed to ease the process of deconstruction and re-assembling. By interlocking bricks with bamboo canes, another local abundant material, we assure the module stability, as well as create different envi-ronments in both levels - the demanded school amenities on the lower levels and classrooms on the upper one. Each module contains, therefore both a classroom and the subsequent facility. The modules are then connected among each other through a double pathway. This space is both a covered playground and a circulation on the groundfloorm this corridor harbours the canteen and can also be used by the neigh-bouring comunity as an assembly hall.
