Introduction

• The following portfolio corresponds to a description of all the activitiesand exercises that we have worked on since the beginning of thesemester. Such activities include different tense forms, the use of adverbs of frequency, greetings and farewells, among others.

• What we expect to achieve during this term is to learn English from the

basics so that we can improve our language skills and then to be able to

“Projections of the English language on the bicentennial “

Mr. Sergio Bitar

English Opens Doors, is an initiative of the Chilean Ministry of Education

(MINEDUC) to apply technical expertise and improve English as a ForeignLanguage (EFL) teaching, making it more accessible to all school-age Chilean. The English Opens Doors Program was created in the country of Chile in 2003and is supported by former President Michelle Bachelet and Minister of Education Mónica Jiménez

Goals:

English should be a requirement for others career.

Only third percent of people of our country manage English, and seventy

percent of the material on internet is in this language, in others words, we canaffirm that we live in a society where English is essential and Chile still isn’t full   prepared, so the idea of this program is to motivate people to learn thislanguage and that the number of people with English’s knowledge can behigher.

That people understand that English is a priority for the future of Chile, and that is a big potential for tourism in our country.

Advantages:

Better salaryPeople can make their own businessThe person, who develops languages skills, can travel, learn from other culturesand also grow at a social level.People who handle more than one language have more cognitive skills. The hardest the language is, the more the brain develops.

An evaluation carried out in 2005, by the Cambridge University gave thefollowing results:

ALTE is an association of providersof foreign language examinations,

founded in 1990.

ALTE 1 Eight grade 9%ALTE 2 twelve grade 5%

We wonder… what it takes to get better rates. And the only answer is:DESIRE TO LEARN.

A big problem in our country is that there are not too many English teachers, and most of them teach in Spanish.

What did the government do?

They extended two years. Instead of start teaching English from seven grades, they started from the fifth.

Studies texts were implemented.

The goal is to reach ALTE 3

What is ALTE 3? - Is the minimum level expected for an English teacher

Expected goals:

The teacher must understand the main ideas of specific items. The teacher must be fluent in speaking, and should maintain an interaction withnative speakers. The teacher should be able to produce texts and also to explain their point of view.

In 2006  scholarships were implemented, so that students could interact in English countries.

An agreement was made to teach Chinese- mandarin, but as a prerequisite for this, courses may be implemented in the Universities first.
