I have been working at Private Collection Ltd, a knitwear manufacturer in Auckland New Zealand for the last six years.

Over that time I have been the sole designer of one of the companies brands Standard Issue and for the last two years I have been the head designer which includes designing the other of the companies brands Visage.

Standard Issue started in 1984 (so is the same age as me) and has only had one other designer the previous owner; Nigel Richards.

Each season Standard Issue offers a collection of 40 - 50 designs for womenswear, six - eight menswear designs and six - eight kids designs. It is a boutique brand of knitwear separates, usually with one or two apparel pieces to compliment the collection. The brief for Standard Issue is: Knitwear with a twist, strong and simple clothes for the discerning buyer.

I have put together a selection of styles for you to see from each of the eight seasons I have designed for Standard Issue.

Over the last two years I have been designing Visage as well as Standard Issue.

Visage is a range of contemporary women’s knitwear for a mature fuller figure. Each collection has 60 - 70 designs. The focus is on creating co ordinated easily merchandized outfits.

Designing two very different brands has been a challenge that I have enjoyed. Both brands are well established and each have their own individual demands and rewards.

For Standard Issue I have been able to add a little of my own design flair while still staying true to the Standard Issue ethos.

And for Visage I have been happy to work closely with the sales teams and Managing Director to create a commercial collection for our Visage customers.

Outside of work I love to make things. I have taken the opportunity of making a portfolio to create a collection of clothes for myself.

My portfolio not only represents my technical skills and designs for Private Collection but also shows an independent collection I have designed and made for myself to wear and for you to see.

Brother RabbitNamed after a fabric created by 19th century british designer William Morris. The fabric is a muted pattern of intricate flowers, leaves, a bird & most delightfully some rabbits. The collection uses rich textures and has a hand-finished feel.

The Science of NatureFor winter 2010, Standard Issue tells a story of textural innovation. The mish mash sweater combines many cables and basket weave techniques to create a cocooning knit you could lose an afternoon in. Lace hole textures show a feminine side to the collection, while the multi-gauge cardi contrasts plush alpaca yarn against smooth merino.

I have been designing Visage for the last 4 seasons.

Visage is a range of contemporary women’s knitwear for a mature fuller figure.

For the 12 seasons prior I was assisting the Visage designer. Each collection has 60 styles.

Visage collections are made up of coordinated separates that enable women the freedom to create their own look and style. From sophisticated, comfortable resort wear to special evening pieces. Visage takes the modern woman to any occasion.
