Theun Mosk
Theun Mosk (IJlst 1980)is werkzaam als scenograaf, decorontwerper, lichtontwerper en theatermaker. Het werk van Mosk kenmerkt zich door sterke con-ceptuele ideeën, die door middel van licht en decor ruimtelijk vormgegeven worden. Door heldere kaders te scheppen in zijn ontwerpen streeft Mosk ernaar om de manier waarop de toeschouwer kijkt en ervaart, te sturen en te beïnvloeden. Op dit moment heeft hij vaste samenwerkingsverbanden met Schweigman& (Boukje Schweigman), De Veenfabriek (Paul Koek), Toneelgroep Oostpool (Marcus Azzini) en het Ro Theater (Jetse Batelaan). Daarnaast werkte hij de afgelopen jaren voor uiteenlopende projecten. Zo ontwierp hij bij- voorbeeld licht en decor voor voorstellingen van Lotte van den Berg, Roos van Geffen en Karina Holla, maar hij verzorgde ook de vormgeving of licht voor diverse exposities als Egypt’s Sunken Treasures (met Robert Wilson), Arnhem Mode Biënnale (Piet Paris) en voor Ergens & Overal bij het Theater Instituut Nederland (TIN).
Theun Mosk (IJlst 1980)works as scenographer, lightdesigner, setdesigner and theatremaker. Mosk’s work is characterized by his strong conceptual ideas which you can see in his lighting designs and spacious set designs. In his designs Mosk strives to create clear frameworks to manipulate the experience of the audience in the way they have to look. At this moment he has permanent collaborations with Schweigman& (Boukje Schweigman), De Veenfabriek (Paul Koek), Toneelgroep Oost-pool (Marcus Azzini) and the Ro Theater (Jetse Batelaan). In addition to this, he has worked in the past few years for various projects. He created for example the light and set design for performances by Lotte van den Berg, Roos van Geffen and Karina Holla, but he also designed lighting or stage for several exhibitions like Egypt’s Sunken Treasures (with Robert Wilson), Arnhem Mode/Fashion Biënnale (Piet Paris) and for Ergens & Overal at the Theater Instituut Nederland (TIN).

Autonome installatie voor Festival aan de Werf
De installatie ‘Alp’ is een uitgesneden stuk bergweide, verplaatst naar het centrum van Utrecht. Vanuit de stadse omgeving stapt de bezoeker een weids landschap binnen. Een pad loopt steil omhoog en voert de be- zoeker langs een aantal huisjes, waarin Mosk kunstenaars gevraagd heeft om de vermoeide wandelaar te verkwikken met hun werk.

Autonomous installation at Festival aan de Werf
The installation is a piece of alp meadow which is cut out and moved to the center of Utrecht. From the urban environment, the visitor enters a panoramic landscape. A steep path leads the visitor along a number of houses, in which Mosk has asked several artists to refresh the weary hikers with their work.

‘Walking’ is een vertraagde wandeling die de grenzen van tijd en ruimte wil doen laten verdwijnen. Vanaf de rustige kraamkamer, de Waddenzee, maakt de bezoeker een wan-deltocht over land richting de onstuimige Noordzee. Onderweg passeert men archi-tectonische installaties. Door een spel met vertraging en waarneming openbaart niet alleen het landschap zich in al haar facetten, maar wordt de wandelaar ook geconfronteerd met zijn eigen belevingswereld. Een vier uur durende, intense ervaring.
‘Walking’ is a slow walk on the island of Terschelling in which the boundaries between time and space will disappear. From the quiet nursery, the Wadden Sea, the visitor hikes inland towards the turbulent North Sea. On the way one will pass architectural installations. By a game with delay and observation not only the landscape reveals itself in all its facets, but the walker is also confronted with his personal experience. A four hour, intense journey.

Locatievoorstelling op Vliegveld Valkenburg
‘Licht is de Machine’ houdt het midden tussen een gigantische beeldende installatie en een muziektheaterproductie. Het publiek wordt meegenomen in een reis langs oude en nieuwe utopische werelden, wrange dromen en persoonlijke verlangens: soms in de vorm van een intiem concert, dan weer in een beeldende omgeving waarbij toeschouwer, technicus, muzikant en acteur samen de vloer delen. De theorieën van de bijzondere, utopisch filosoof Charles Fourier golden als belangrijkste uitgangspunten.

‘Licht is de machine’ (Light is the machine) is a cross-over between a huge visual installation and a music theater production. The presentation shows the beauty of light, but also her dazzling reverse. The audience is taken on a journey through utopian worlds, old and new, bitter personal desires and dreams: sometimes in the form of an intimate concert, sometimes in a visual environment where spectator, engineer, musician and actor share the floor together. The theories of remarkable utopian philosopher Charles Fourier were used as key principles.

‘Egypt’s Sunken Treasures’ is a travelling exhibition in which a unique collection of treasures, emerged from three sunken cities (Alexandria, Canopus and Herakleion) in Egypt, are exhibited. For the exhibition in Turin (It) Wilson provided the styling, together with Mosk. Each room had its own sound-scape, composed by Laurie Anderson.

‘Egypt’s Sunken Treasures’ is een reizende tentoonstelling waarin een bijzondere collec-tie van opgedoken schatten uit drie gezonken steden (Alexandria, Canopus en Herakleion) van Egypte worden tentoongesteld. Voor de expositie in Turijn(It) verzorgde Wilson samen met Mosk de vormgeving. Iedere ruimte had een eigen soundscape, gecom-poneerd door Laurie Anderson.

In ‘Een cowboy met zijn handen hoog juicht waarschijnlijk niet’ krijgen de acteurs het vuur aan de schenen gelegd. Doortastende observaties van levensecht gedrag, absurde situaties gebaseerd op onhandigheid en traagheid, gevat in een klare beeldtaal en een onnavolgbare samenhang. Een voorstelling over mensen in paniek. Sadisme uit liefde voor de dingen. Begripvol porren waar het pijn doet. Een voorstelling over mensen die zich overgeven.

Powerful observations of lifelike behavior, absurd situations based on clumsiness and slowness, captured in a clear visual language and an unparalleled consistency. A show about people in distress. Sadism out of love for things. A little poking where it hurts. A show about people who surrender themselves.

In ‘Wiek’ belanden drie danseressen in een ruimte van horizontaal ronddraaiende wieken. Ze raken erin gevangen. Het publiek zit rondom en sluit zo de ontsnappingsmogelijk- heid af; de danseressen kunnen niet anders dan de confrontatie aangaan. De toeschou-wer wordt medeplichtig gemaakt aan de on-ontkoombaarheid waar deze danseressen in zijn beland: een gevecht van de nietige mens tegen krachten die groter zijn dan zij zelf.

In ‘Wiek’ (Rotor) three female dancers find themselves sharing a circular area with the horizontally rotating blades of a wind turbine. The seated audience surrounds the space, allowing no possibility to escape; the dancers have no other choice but to confront their situation. Feeble humans are compelled to enter into combat with forces far greater than their own, and the audience is made complicit in the inevitable outcome.

Orlando
‘Orlando’ is een theaterbewerking van Virginia Woolfs roman over de ongeveer dertigjarige Orlando, die in meer dan 300 jaar het leven probeert te bevatten en daartoe onder anderevan een jonge man in een jonge vrouw verandert. Virginia Woolf speelt in Orlando met de onmogelijke opdracht het levens-verhaal te schrijven van de persoon op wie je verliefd bent. Aan de ene kant zijn er de feiten en getallen, aan de andere kant is er de regenboog van gevoelens, stemmingen en er-varingen - hoe het leven van je geliefde voelt.

‘Orlando’ is a stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s novel about the approximately thirty-year-old Orlando, who tries to comprehend life in more than 300 years and for that purpose among other things transforms from a young man into a young woman.With Orlando Virginia Woolf tries to do the impossible by writing the life story of the person you’re in love with. On the one hand there are facts and figures, on the other hand there is this rainbow of feelings, moods and experiences - how the life of your loved one feels.
