Event OverviewSupported by the Dubai Municipality, the 6th Annual Waste Management Middle East Forum gathered environment and HSE leaders from across the Middle East region along with international delegates to discuss strategies for achieving excellence through integrated and effective sustainable waste management practices. The event, supported by Dubai Municipality, was held under the patronage of Eng. Abdulmajeed Saifaie, Dubai Municipality Director – Waste Management Department, UAE, and inaugurated by Mr. Naji Al Radhi, Head of Waste Treatment, Dubai Municipality.

Sharing Dubai Municipality’s experience in developing waste management sustainability in the Emirate of Dubai, Imad Juma Mohammed, Dubai Municipality, Head of Technical Support

and Studies Section - Waste Management Department addressed the delegates speaking about the past challenges, current achievements, initiatives and future perspectives on

making Dubai one of the most sustainable cities in the world. Dr. Udayan Banerji, Tadweer – Center for Waste Management Abu Dhabi, chairman of the conference,

announced that authorities in Abu Dhabi are studying a proposal to charge residents for collection of waste by mid-2016 as part of its strategic plan

to encourage recycling in the emirate.

The 2 day event featured 21 focused sessions where hundreds of delegates got an opportunity to network with government

authorities and waste management solution providers. The forum was also supported by major environmental

associations such as Middle East Facilities Management Association (MEFMA), Emirates

Green Building Association and the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental

Management (CIWEM).
