    3. Connect the red clamp to the positiveterminal of the vehicle battery.

    4. Connect the black clamp to an un-painted and unmoving part of thevehicle chassis or engine block.CAUTION: If you have connected theclamps backwards, an audio alarmwilt sound. Reverse the connectionsand the audible alarm will stop.NOTE: If after following steps 1-4the display remains blank, check fora good connection on both jaws ofthe clamps. If the display still doesn'tlight, hold down the display switch for5 seconds. If the display doesn't blink, the external battery voltage is too lowto be detected by the 950.

    5. Digital Display: The charge percent-age of the vehicle's battery wilt bedisplayed for 5 seconds. The displaywilt blink to indicate proper connectionand will then show the charge per-centage of both batteries combined(950 and vehicle)

    6. Turn the key and crank the engine. The display wilt count down from10 seconds. If the engine does notstart, wait at least 1 minute beforeattempting to crank the vehicle again. This permits the battery and relay to

cool down. Only attempt to crank theengine when the display is blinking(relay is engaged).

    7. Due to a unique safety feature, theclamp power is automatically shutoff 10 seconds after the enginestarts. This eliminates the problem ofsparking when removing the clamps.Remove and store the clamps onthe ears located on the back of thecase.

    8. Charge the 950 as soon as possibleafter jump-starting.

CAUTION: To prevent sparking, NEVERallow the clamps to touch together orto contact the same piece of metal. And, never attempt to charge a frozenbattery.NOTE: In the rare case of jump-startinga vehicle that has a positive-groundedvehicle electrical system, connect theblack clamp to the negative terminal ofthe vehicle battery. Then connect thered clamp to an unpainted and unmov-ing part of the vehicle chassis or engineblock. If you are unsure of the nature ofthe vehicle's electrical grounding system, check the owner's manual of the vehicleor call the Customer Technical Assistancenumber: 1-800-SEARS-64.POWERING A 12V DC DEVICEThe Portable Power 950 is a powersource for all 12 volt DC accessories thatare equipped with a 12V accessory plug. The DC accessory outlet has a 15-ampautomatic overload protection circuitbreaker.
