Efficiency, a word that encapsulates

the company’s state-of-the-art

development. It has a number of

facets, from the design of the

units to provide comfort to

environments, to innovation

to increase energy savings

and the design of solutions to

improve integration

with systems.

Efficiency as a starting point

Rhoss solutions provide a significant contribution in improving the score of the building as part of the LEED® certification, which is becoming an increasingly popular sustainable design and construction label for buildings worldwide.

In commercial and residential buildings, often, the predominant part of consumption is represented by the energy required for summer and winter air conditioning and for the necessary air renewal and treatment.

The designer's role is all the more crucial when facing the energy challenges of the coming years and Rhoss can provide a key contribution to a systemic and comprehensive approach to the design of HVAC systems (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning).

The philosophy behind the design of the refrigerant units goes hand in hand with the new market trends and the selection of components suitable to attain first-class energy standards.

The integration with the innovative air handling units, where we place our highest attention on heat recovery and heat regulation, is well combined with the new systems where the technological content and the functionality of a complete system are increasingly important requirements. Rhoss has expanded its product offer with a wide range of terminals with high performance, low consumption and deep care for detail to meet the requests of our most demanding clients. A whole series of unit monitoring, management and supervision system completes and adds value to the offer in order to improve the overall efficiency of the system and integration with the natural location of the equipment.

The standard of our refrigerant units has always been focusing, on the one hand, on class A, and on the other, on guaranteeing high efficiency at partial loads, to meet and exceed the new targets of SEER and SCOP indexes.

The new features introduced, thanks to the research and development in the R&D Lab, the pride and joy at Rhoss, allow for even higher efficiency and performance.

THE TECHNOLOGICAL CORE

The condensing section is designed to guarantee the required efficiency and increase the operating limits in each application. On the one hand, the Al-Al micro-channel coils of the chillers increase the thermal exchange efficiency, while on the other hand they significantly reduce the gas content to minimise the global impact on the greenhouse effect. Plus, for applications in harsh environments there are protective treatments both in the MCHX coil and traditional Cu-Al ones.

The precise and accurate management of the unit is entirely developed by RHOSS with the ten-year experience of qualified technicians. The chillers and heat pumps are designed to interact with the main BMS principles on the market and synergically interact with each other to guarantee reliability in the various installations.

The size of water-side heat exchangers is designed to provide maximum power with first-class efficiency

levels. Innovative solutions in both the plate and tube-and-shell versions are combined with the

technology and the refrigerant gases used.

The compressor, the beating heart of the chillers and heat pump, is the distinctive element of the various POWER ranges.

The main technologies used involve scroll hermetic compressors, semi-hermetic screw compressors & VFD inverter screw compressors and Turbocor magnetically

levitated centrifugal compressors.

Axial fans designed to improve heat exchange with lower consumption and maximum efficiency. A wide range of optional features, from asynchronous motors with

phase-fired control to EC-brushless electronic motors and over-pressure ones for special applications.

THE LOW CONSUMPTION REVOLUTIONAdaptive Function Plus is an innovative predictive control software, patented exclusively by Rhoss, created from the collaboration with the Technical Physics and Computer Engineering Departments of the University of Padua. The control logic allows the cooling unit with Scroll technology to take on the information from the system concerning its load and inertia, elaborate it and optimise the work parameters to reduce the energy consumption of the chillers and heat pumps.

EXP POLYVALENT UNITSEXP Systems is the multi-purpose ecological system designed by Rhoss to meet cold and hot water demands simultaneously or independently with a single unit. It is designed for use in 2, 4 and 6-pipe systems, any time of the year. This flexibility allows it to be used in several types of construction, thereby allowing any subsequent change in the intended use.

VPF – VARIABLE PRIMARY FLOWCooling systems with variable hydronic circuit flow (VPF: Variable Primary Flow), ideal for medium to large cooling capacities, represent an interesting alternative to the more traditional systems with a constant flow.In fact, the solutions designed by Rhoss offer benefits such as reduced energy consumption of the pumping units with consequent cost savings, combined with reliability and simplified control of the system.Using these systems contributes significantly to achieving greater credits in the LEED certification of buildings.

THE RHOSS INTEGRATED SEQUENCERThe optional feature SIR, the Rhoss integrated sequencer, efficiently and reliably controls, via a Master/Slave logic, up to 4 units with a parallel plumbing connection and a RS485 serial network. Each unit uses its own circulation pump and probes to meet the exact load of the system, while the sequencer balances the operating hours of each unit, controlling any alarms in progress. In combination with the FDL (power consumption limitation) accessory, it is possible to limit, in a dynamic manner, the power supplied as a global percentage of the units installed.

DYNAMIC NOISE CONTROLNoise is an essential parameter when choosing your chiller.Rhoss offers the FNR option for dynamic noise control for limited periods during the day or night, which forces silenced or super-silenced operation when required. This guarantees an attenuated sound level when necessary while still ensuring maximum efficiency of the cooling unit during the rest of the day.

CONSUMPTION CONTROLRhoss aims to increase efficiency through the design of its cooling units, and the EEM is precisely an accessory that keeps consumption under control. The Energy Meter monitors consumption and permits targeted and rapid routine maintenance without any waste. Together with the FDL (power consumption limitation) accessory, it controls maximum power consumption when specifically required.

PREVENTIVE CONTROLGas leaks can adversely affect performance and harm the environment. Rhoss offers the LDK - Leak Detector kit for detecting leaks, which immediately alerts any problems and stops the chiller or heat pump.

IMPROVED EFFICIENCYThe power consumption of a chiller is always the sum of the power consumption of the various compressors and fans: and there are many factors that influence this. With the EEO - Energy Efficiency Optimiser accessory, control of the fans is adapted to the operating conditions as best as possible with an increase of the SEER.

OIL-FREE TECHNOLOGYTurbocor is the first entirely Oil-Free compressor designed for the Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration market (HVACR). The convergence of the aerospace industry, of magnetic levitation bearings, variable speed compression and digital electronic technology enabled Turbocor to achieve very high efficiency levels for the most diverse applications.

DEDICATED HEAT EXCHANGERSThe flooded heat exchanger allows for a reduced approach between the gas evaporation temperature and the water temperature, with an increase in the performance and efficiency of the system. The heat exchanger, combined with the oil-free compressor technology, further increases efficiency because the heat exchange is optimised.

NATURALLY ECO-FRIENDLYIn TurboPOWER ECO units, in addition to the use of micro-channel coils and the R1234ze ecological gas with a low GWP (zero impact to the greenhouse effect), we introduced the flooded evaporator to further reduce the amount of refrigerant gas. TurboPOWER ECO thus becomes even more eco-friendly with the environment in mind.

VARIABLE Vi TECHNOLOGY AND INVERTER CONTROLThe new-generation screw compressor allows for the adjustment of the Vi geometrical parameter to control and increase efficiency. Plus, the inverter-controlled power adjustment allows for a very high compressor capacity, thereby guaranteeing comfort and precision.

VERSIONS AND SETUPSBoth the customer and the system have a number of requirements, so the FullPOWER ranges are able to meet them thanks to the different types of available designs, versions and setups. The Stepless technology in class A evolves into hybrid versions (1+i) up to top efficiency at partial loads with the full-inverter range (FullPOWER VFD).

R134a AND MOREThe special attention to the selection of the components used makes FullPOWER a range with a low environmental impact: new-generation evaporators to improve the efficiency and micro-channel coils for a reduced amount of refrigerant are combined with the option of using gas with a low GWP as an alternative to R134a.

EFFICIENT TECHNOLOGYWith their new-generation scroll hermetic compressors, combined with the Rhoss smart management logic, these units can be used in any kind of application. The increased efficiency at partial loads on the one hand and noise reduction on the other, have always made the advantages of scroll technology always interesting and distinctive.

EXCLUSIVE CONFIGURATIONSThe chillers and heat pumps are designed with two cooling circuits, each with different configurations from 2 to 4 scroll compressors depending on the power, to ensure efficiency, reliability and service to the user. The optional features that come with the selection of the unit add value to the overall offer and turn WinPOWER into a plug&play range. The option of fitting the units with a partial recovery of the condensation heat (desuperheater) allows you not to waste energy and have hot water at high temperatures.Fitting the heat pumps with the total condensation heat recovery option enables you to manage 2-pipe systems with hot water production for DHW use in the dedicated heat exchanger. The flexible and efficient WinPOWER range is the right solution for installation in hotels, commercial and industrial settings.

RHOSS: worldwide solutions for energy efficiency

DYNAMIC ENERGY ANALYSISOften in commercial and residential buildings, consumption is mainly represented by the energy required for summer and winter air conditioning and for the necessary air renewal and treatment and for domestic hot water. The designer's role is all the more crucial when facing the energy challenges of the coming years and the results presented are primarily an incentive to adopt a systemic and comprehensive approach to the design of HVAC systems (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning).

The efficiency routeHow can we assess the maximum possible reduction in fuel

consumption and emissions, as early as the design phase?

A large building is a complex "body" consisting of a large number of

elements and subsystems that interact with each other and with the

external environment, and that influence each other’s performance.

Using simplified simulation models that neglect these dynamic

interactions are likely to lead to assessments that are often far from the

actual energy performance.

DYNAMIC ENERGY ANALYSIS allows for the selection, in a simple

and intuitive way, of HVAC system solutions at the highest levels,

aimed at obtaining the best energy performance in buildings.

RHOSS, in collaboration with researchers of the "Energy

Department of the POLYTECHNIC OF TURIN" and with the

invaluable advice of Engineer Michele Vio (AiCARR past-president)

has made the creation of this useful and increasingly fundamental tool

possible, to beat the energy challenges of coming years.

Compared plant solutionsDYNAMIC ENERGY ANALYSIS allows for the energy simulation in

buildings for offices and hotels in the climatic conditions of Milan,

Rome, Bari, London, Barcelona, Paris, Berlin, Moscow and Dubai.

The comparison and selection parameters for buildings are the

different levels of insulation as well as the percentage of glass surface

(BUILDING&PLANT PARAMETERS – Step 3).

The different system solutions combine different generators,

compressor technologies, pumping systems, exhaust air heat

recovery units and control systems.

This combination matrix makes it possible to identify the best energy

solution in every city and for each building, from an energy perspective

(RHOSS SOLUTION – Step 4) and to compare the energy savings

obtained with other customised configurations according to the

choices made (YOUR SOLUTION – Step 5).

The obtainable energy savings, in terms of primary energy, with

respect to the standard system configuration of reference in the

market are indicated for each system solution.

To better illustrate energy savings, the new PROXIMITY TO ZERO

percentage index has been defined in collaboration with the University

of Turin.

The index expresses how much is required for the full coverage of

the building's energy demand, depending on the photovoltaic surface

installed to serve the building.
