Introduction

• Cancer is an abnormal growth of cells in the body.

• highly complex disease.

• Modern medicine treat/control a majority of cancers, however a complete cure may not be possible.

Page 3: PPT Nano Gold.cancer

Ayurvedic Bhasma preparation

• most ancient but ultramodern forms of nanotechnology.

• particle size ranges from 10 to 100 nm

• “nano” means to one-billionth.

• nanometer is one-billionth of a meter.

Page 4: PPT Nano Gold.cancer

Cancer

• Mutated cells start duplicating (mitosis) themselves in an abnormal way.

• Metastasis – further cancer cell migrates & start spreading.

• Angiogenesis- formation of new blood vessels.

• Essential for the growth & progression of tumors.

Drug delivery• Nanomedicine approaches to drug

delivery center on developing nanoscale particles or molecules to improve drug bioavailability.

• Drug delivery focuses on maximizing bioavailability both atspecific places in thebody and over a period of

time

Process of Incineration of swarna

• Purified gold foil + mercury Rubbed in mortar.

• Add cinnabar, sulphur, realgar and ammonium chloride in equal proportion.

• Keep in Sharava & give Kukkuta puta.

• Colour – Brown red.

Page 8: PPT Nano Gold.cancer

Characterization of Swarnabhasma

• contains 92% gold by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy.

• mercury is not detected.

• globular particles.

• average size of 56-57 nm.

• Classical dose =15mg -30mg

Nano Gold Action mechanism

• Uptake in the small intestine by persorption

through single, degrading enterocytes.

• Reach various organs through blood.

• Reach the affected site even after oral

administration.

• Would act as a depot for the slow and sustained

release of Au ions required for therapeutic

action.

Effect of nanogold on the proliferation of human umbilical vascular endothelial cells

• Research done at dept. Of biochemistry & molecular biology gugg. China.

• Whether nanogold had any effect on vascular endothelial growth factor 165- & vegf 121-induced human umbilical vascular endothelial cell proliferation.

Page 11: PPT Nano Gold.cancer
Page 12: PPT Nano Gold.cancer

Results

• Nanogold inhibited VEGF165-induced proliferation of HUVE cells.

• Inhibited bFGF-induced proliferation but did not interfere with the activity of EGF.

• Proliferation of capillaries, blood supply to cancerous cell (angiogenesis) is arrested.

Page 13: PPT Nano Gold.cancer

Advantages of nano gold

• Reduces dosage.

• Ensures the pharmaceutical effects.

• Minimizes side-effects.

• Enhances drug stability.

Page 14: PPT Nano Gold.cancer

• Penetrate through small capillaries & taken up by

cells, which allows efficient drug accumulation at

target sites.

• A sustained and controlled release at target sites

over a period of days or even weeks is possible.

Page 15: PPT Nano Gold.cancer

Conclusion

• Uniform size of 57nm • Can penetrate through small capillaries & cell

linings • Attains concentration at target cells.• Sustained release source of nano gold particles • Inhibits signaling of VEGF 165 & angiogenesis.• Tumor is starved.• And growth of cancerous cells is prevented.• Without harming the normal cell/toxicity.
