Hello FCC!

When defined, hospitality seems like a pretty simple concept:

Hospitality: [hos-pi-tal-i-tee] Noun, plural hospitalities. 1. The friendly reception and treat-

ment of guests or strangers. 2. The quality or disposition of receiving and treating guests and

strangers in a warm, friendly, generous way.

Even though it may seem simple, showing true and genuine hospitality in a church setting can

definitely be a gift. (If you need a role model, just remember WWBMD….What Would Bob

Martin Do). Even if you currently are not comfortable welcoming people or showing hospi-

tality, I think it is a “gift” that can be learned and improved upon with practice.

And as Christ’s ambassadors at First Christian Church, the onus of being hospitable is even

greater for all of us because we aren’t just representing our individual selves; we are charged

with displaying and sharing God’s love from within our hearts:

"We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God." - 2 Corinthians 5:20 NIV Just think, you may encounter someone Sunday at church who has never stepped inside a church building in their lives, and in that moment God may be making his appeal to them through you. No pressure there, right?! It may seem intimidating framed in that manner, but it should be something we’re glad to do out of extreme gratitude and reverence to Him.

There are multiple ways at FCC that you can display and/or develop your character of Hospi-

tality. You can join the Hospitality Team as an usher, you can volunteer in the Café, or you can

take baked goods to first time visitors. Those are just a few examples of ways you can display

God’s love within our church. If you feel a tug to be involved in a manner such as this, please

contact me, Rich Edgerton, or the church office and we’ll make sure your desire to be hospita-

ble is put to good use!!

Blessings in the New Year,

Brian Barnett, Elder
