grow. The domestic supply increases, while the exports rise significantly. The downstream markets also

Capacity and output of China’s TPU producers

In recent years, the demand for TPU has maintained a growth rate of over 10%.

Since 2013 domestic new TPU facilities have come on-stream successively, meanwhile the TPU

demands have grown rapidly and steadily. In 2018, China’s TPU industry continues to grow, with the

total output increasing by 12% from last year’s more than 400,000 tons. China is growing into the

world's largest producer and consumer of TPU.

China’s new and expansion TPU projects 2019-2023

TPU consumption by the tube industry in 2018

In 2018, China’s tube manufacturers, which are mainly located in XX, XX, XX and XX, consume

about XX tons of TPU. XX accounts for about more than XX of the total consumption.

Most of the manufacturers in XX produce pneumatic tube, and only a few of them produce oil

tube. Most foreign-owned pneumatic component manufacturers and indigenous manufacturers have

their plants built in XX. XX is the center for production and trading of plastic tubing in China. But most

of the tubings are PVC and nylon tubes and only a few of them are TPU tubes. TPU tube

manufacturers in XX are concentrated in XX and XX. Yantai Wanhua, a MDI manufacturer, is located

in Shandong province. Besides, TPU manufacturers such as XX are also based in the province. As a

result, many tube manufacturers purchase MDI from XX.

TPU is one of TPE products. With the rapid development of PU industry in China in recent years,

TPU consumption accounts for an increasing share of all the TPE consumption. Presently, the price

of TPU is not competitive as it is too high. But because of its special physical and chemical properties,

it cannot be replaced by other TPE products in some special areas.

Shoe material: China’s shoe material manufacturers are mostly located in XX. Low-priced EVA,

XX and XX are the main raw materials for shoe materials. Some high-end sports shoes use the new

material TPU. Other middle- and low-end shoe materials are made from XX or XX.

Automobile: The rapid development of automobile industry drives the growth of PU foam and

plastics industry. In 2004, more than one million tons of PU products were used in global automotive

industry. At present, PU plastics only account for a small share of the PU products used in

automobiles. Due to its properties of abrasion and tear resistance, TPU is widely used in bumper, XX
