PRELIMINARY EVALUATION SHEETQuality of Summary My honest evaluation- what

was done well and what was not of good standard? Try to cite specific example and moments from your video

Strategies put forward to make sure a high quality is maintained.

Quality of holding a shot steady

Shots throughout clip are relatively steady, as seen in beginning of clip. All shots are fluent and turn into matched cuts which is what we intended to do. Such as in beginning of clip, the matched cuts show the actress walking towards the door, opening the door and heading towards the table.

To maintain efficiency perhaps a tripod could have been used to ensure we filmed everything we wanted without missing anything as well as maintaining a steady shot. Also retakes could’ve been taken to make sure that we perfected our film.

Quality of the framing shots We used various shots including the close up during dialogue to allow the audience to connect with the characters. Medium shots of both characters in story giving a sense of the environment and perhaps the motives of the characters that are shown to be there. Reverse shots are used during the dialogue scene to make the film seem fast paced.

Use a broader variety of framing shots. Shots, which show more of the scenery or environment, could make things clearer to the audience.

Quality of shooting material appropriate to the task set- i.e. the content of your film pre and post editing was consistent with the exam directives

Our film contained various shots such as the tracking shot in the beginning of the clip as we follow someone walking towards a door. Our shots allowed us to spread the message and atmosphere we had intended. The timing of our shots was also critical as we tried to make our shots fast and still convey a theme of our film- this was further enhanced by our editing.

Film could try and spread our message clearer to audience to help them comprehend what we’re trying to do. Make sure anything unwanted in the scene is covered or removed- Such as additional people in certain shots could be asked to move.

Quality of selecting mise-en-scène including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting;

All mise en scene was natural with hardly any props, giving our film a more distinguished sense of reality. We had used our school as the base and scenes with dialogue we had used a table some chairs and a water bottle, and this simplicity and lack of mise en scene allowed us to make the characters seem more interactive to the audience rather than take the chance of them being distracted by too many objects or colors in the background, to the extent that people misunderstand our characters representations.

More props to engage audience, not enough used in our film.

Quality of editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer

All editing made sure that there was nothing unnecessary to distract the audience or to make the clip drag on. Our editing made sure that only bare essentials were shown, leaving some questions unanswered so that the audience wants more.

Make credits for film using editing techniques. Adding titles and controlling the speed of them.

Quality of using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;

Diegetic sound used. No other forms of sound were added.

Try to input music or sound via editing techniques to set an atmosphere for movie.

Quality of positioning and movements of actors

Actors moved casually, done in first take, did not re film any thing, as the first time was what we had wanted. In our film all characters were positioned in the center of the camera and nothing was cut out which is good considering we were holding a steady shot without a tripod.

Actor’s movement more casual, and less restrictive or camera shy. Having higher standards.

Quality of group planning, meeting targets, organization

Planned as soon as set, very organized to get props

Plan deadlines in advance- Plot, Characters etc.

and started filming straight away after all characters needed in film were assembled.

Group dynamics i.e. how did your group work together

Very well, extremely easy and fast to understand and work with each other, we had gone over the plot enough times to know what we had to do straight away.

Spending more time with each other, briefing everybody what we want achieved on our project rather than them not knowing a thing about what we’re doing.

Other points of evaluation ( e.g. equipment related etc)

Very well organized in getting equipment and keeping it safe until project was finished and all equipment returned.

More equipment could have been taken to ensure that a better quality of shots were made e.g. Tripod
