About SPEInternational AIME comprises of three founding institutes:

Metallurgical Society, Society of Mining Engineers and Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Petroleum Division of AIME was formed in 1922 As an Institute of AIME, SPE, a not-for-profit

professional membership association was founded in 1957 to o focus on the exploration, development and

production of oil and gas resources.

o Collection, dissemination and exchange of technical knowledge and related technologies

o and to provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence

Membership is open to all professionals engaged in energy resources development and production. As at the end of 2013, SPE has over 124,528 paid members in 135 countries (4.34% in Africa), with 190 Sections and 295 University Chapters.

Nigeria Started in 1973 with Lagos

Section.

Currently has over 3,613 paid members, a Council, five sections (Abuja, Benin, Lagos, Port Harcourt and Warri) and 31 SPE Student Chapters.

Membership is open to all professionals engaged in energy resources development and production.

2015 SPE International President is Mr. Helge Hove Haldorsen of Statoil.
