I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Dear Sir / Madam,

Non-governmental organisation European Youth Parliament wants tothank you for the opportunity to present you our organisation and we hopeto establish a fruitful collaboration beneficial for both counterparties.

European Youth Parliament Republic of Moldova is a republican non-governmental organisation which was founded on the 20 th April 2011 by agroup of enthusiastic and motivated teenagers regarding the creation anddevelopment of an EYP National Committee in our country under theumbrella of EYP International.

Initially, we started our activities as an EYP initiative group andafterwards with the support of Slovak AID, we successfully planned andorganized 2 Local Sessions which gathered together 75 and respectively,100 young people from Republic of Moldova, including Transdniestria.

After few group discussions and debates, youngsters managed toidentify multiple innovative solutions towards the problems and challengesfaced by our country and the whole Europe. After all the Committeemembers agreed on the solutions provided by EYP-ers, these werecompiled into resolutions which will be presented to specific institutionsand interested counterparties in the form of a Booklet which was made byEYP-ers, themselves.

Success of our activities has recommended us not only as crediblepartners in Republic of Moldova but as well as towards our internationalpartners, and thus in May 2012, we became the 37 th National Committeewith full membership rights within EYP family, due to fulfilling all therequirements and unanimous vote of the Board of National Committees.

This opens new opportunities not only for the development of ourorganization but for all the Moldovan Youth as well: this means we will beable to delegate a group of 5 most active teenagers to EYP International

Sessions which will be young Ambassadors of our country with other 250pupils and students from other 37 European countries.

Moreover, we will be able to organize National, Regional andInternational Session where the activity of European Parliament will besimulated.

Beyond all the above mentioned, we would like to indicate that in July2012 we negotiated the partnership with the Delegation of EuropeanUnion in Republic of Moldova and we are proud to announce that fromnow on, all our activities will take place under the honorific patronage of Chief of European Union Delegation in Republic of Moldova, Mr Dirk Schuebel.

The EYP represents a non-partisan and independent educational projectwhich is tailored specifically to the needs of the young European citizen.

The EYP encourages independent thinking and socio-political initiativein young people and facilitates the learning of crucial social andprofessional skills. Since its inauguration, many tens of thousands of young people have taken part in regional, national and internationalsessions, formed friendships and made international contacts across and

beyond borders. The EYP has thus made a vital contribution towardsuniting Europe.Today the EYP is one of the largest European platforms for political

debate, intercultural encounters, political educational work and theexchange of ideas among young people in Europe. The EYP consists of anetwork of 37 European associations and organisations in which thousandsof young people are active in a voluntary capacity.

II. OBJECTIVES

Objectives of the European Youth Parliament are:

Raise awareness of youngsters regarding economic andsocio-political problems and challenges faced by Republicof Moldova and Europe, encourage active citizenship andmotivate and empower youngsters to involve in Politics atnational and European level.

Promote international cooperation and interculturaldialogue as well the diversity of ideas and practises.

Create a complex platform of non-formal education in orderto contribute to personal and professional development of young European generation.

Develop a forum where teenagers will be able to expresstheir opinions without reverting to role play.

Lobby the interests and rights of teenagers, pupils andstudents by writing youth public policies, presenting EYPresolutions to authorized institutions.

Create a community of future leaders.

Inform young citizens about the European History,

European Union, and European Union Institutions byorganizing informing sessions, study visits as well aspresent diverse opportunities for youth offered by E.U.

Contribute to the harmonisation of the Republic of Moldova society with the European principles and valuesfor easier integration in the European Union.

III. ACTIVITIES:The EYP involves well over 20,000 young people at more than 100 regional,

national and international events through 37 national organisations every year.

The flagship events of the EYP are its three annual International Sessions. Eachof these sessions brings together about 270 young people from 37 countries for 10days in different European countries.

All EYP sessions follow a similarprogramme and are based on the samemethodology:

Firstly the participants divide intointernational committees and take part inteam building.

In the ensuing committees the young

delegates start working on a current issueof European politics and compose a jointresolution.

Finally, the resolutions are debated in aparliamentary General Assemblyfollowing the model of the EuropeanParliament in both English and French.

Through a rich cultural programme withevents such as Euroconcert, Eurovillageor the Country Presentations theparticipants become active and creativethemselves and express themselvesthrough music, acting and dance.

What makes an EYP Session?

The basic idea of a session is that the delegates come together inmulti-national committees, each committee looking at a different topic.Having taken part in team building exercises, the delegates participate incommittee work, producing a resolution on their topic which is thendebated in General Assembly. This summary is, however, a greatsimplification and cannot begin to do justice to the experience of a session.

Each session, though with its own unique character, is largely based

on some core elements, which are detailed below. In all they help with thesessions goal of giving the participants the opportunity to think about thechallenges facing Europe as well as the chance to get to know each otherand each others cultures better.

TEAMBUILDING

On the first weekend of an EYP session, between twelve and twentystudents from all over Europe get together in a committee. These people

who come from very different backgrounds and who have never metbefore, need by the end of the week to befunctioning as a close-knit team pullingtogether and respecting each other.

And it is this task that is the aim of theTeambuilding. Under the direction of experienced team-builders, in conjunction

with the committee Chair, the delegates incommittees engage in a variety of indoor andoutdoor activities, some physical, otherscreative, yet others more problem solving,but all of them fun, and all of them designedto get this disparate group of people workingas a team.

The culmination of the teambuilding is the teambuildingpresentations, a sketch which every committee has to put together to show

to the other delegates, so bringing everyone back together at the end of theweekend, and giving the delegates a last fun creative team exercise beforethe serious business of Committee Work begins.

COMMITTEE WORK

This is perhaps the central

part of any session. The delegatesof the committee come together,now working well as a team afterthe teambuilding weekend, andthey sit down to discuss their

particular topic. Their goal is to write a resolution on this topic on whichthey can all agree. This is not an easy task. They come from very different

perspectives, and will almost certainly have to reach compromises if theyare to find agreement within the time required.

To help them in this, each committee has an experienced Chair, anolder EYP alumnus or expert from our partners IDIS Viitorul and ADEPT,who ensures that everybodys ideas are heard and that the resolutionreflects the ideas of the group - that every member of the committee canfeel proud of it.

The discussion is always very heated, but the end result is that eachof the delegates has learnt an incredible amount about the issue, and reallythought about the implications, and have developed and redeveloped theirown views, with a flexible approach paramount. The skills they learn here,in discussing, debating, persuading and negotiating, will stand them ingood stead for the future.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The General Assembly reunites allthe participants of the session, toconsider the results of committeework. Each committee presents anddefends their motion for resolution,which is then debated forapproximately 40 minutes by theAssembly. Thus delegates have to

be familiar not only with their owntopic but also to some extent withall the resolutions.

At the end of each debate there is a vote - based solely on thepersonal conscience of each delegate. Those resolutions which are passedare subsequently presented to the European Parliament and NationalGovernments, and other such bodies. While it is true that the European

Parliament has gone on to discuss issues brought up by EYP resolutions,the main aim of EYP is not so much to exert political influence as toprovide an educational experience forthe individual participants.

EVENING ACTIVITIES

Like all young people, the participantsat an EYP session value the chance torelax from the very hectic pace of thesession schedule, and the eveningprogramme is designed with this inmind. That is not to say that it doesnot continue the emphasis of the otherelements of the session, providingdelegates with a unique opportunity to learn about each other and thediversity of our continent in general. Beyond the time given over togeneral socialising, a number of more formal events take place:

Eurovillage

Each of the countries represented putstogether a small stall with items from theircountry, a flag in the background,souvenirs and information brochures in theforeground, and lots and lots of nationalfood (and sometimes drink!) to besampled.

Committee Dinner

Mid-way through the week, this is a chance for the committee members toget to know each other better during a relaxed evening in one of the hostcitys many restaurants.

Euroconcert

The talents of EYP-ers are various,and in recognition of the manymusically gifted among the delegates,this event is a chance for thesemusicians to show their abilities,playing a variety of instruments,singing and dancing.

Expert Debate

This evening event represents a great opportunity for the delegates to getinto the debating spirit in the run-up to General Assembly, with a numberof invited speakers making speeches on a given topical subject beforeengaging in heated debate with the assembled delegates.

Farewell Party

This is the party that marks the end of an incredible week, the last act of the session. Inevitably it is both a happy and sad occasion, happy becausethe delegates have had so much fun, but sad in the knowledge that themorning, after, they all return to their home countries, changed peoplenonetheless.

IV. TESTIMONIALS

Within Local Session which took place in Chi inu, many wonderful things happened to us. One of them was the experience of developing and defending our resolutions in front of other colleagues,which certainly improved our public speaking skills. The second thing which is as significant as the

first one is actually the people that I met here which later became my friends, especially because of the fact that I was part of a group where I was theonly boy.

I am motivated to get involved in the nearest future inother sessions, including international ones.
