RADIO PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Radical changes during the late 1800s resulted in:• The development of industries featuring large factories
• The growth of urban cities centered around these new industries• And large scale population due to an increase of immigrants.
However, with progress also comes setbacks:• Exploitation of workers in factories
• the terrible living conditions of these new cities• Inequality across race and gender• And political corruption
It is early 1920, and you are recording a radio announcement about social and political/economic issues of the late 1800s and early 1900s in order to draw attention to some public
problems.
INTRODUCTION
You will be placed in groups of 4
You will assume the role of a:Expert on a social and political/economic issue of this era (you will be assigned a historical figure and will right a
speech as that person for a radio announcement)
First you will research your role Then after researching and preparing a short speech,
you will give your speech to the members of your group during class.

Here is a basic outline of what your public radio speech should look like, concider this as your conduct your
reserch:
Introduction
A. Introduce your self and create credibility: Who you are, what you are going to be talking about? What qualifies you
to speak on this topic? What would connect you with the audience and make them want to listen to you?
B. Introduction on your topic and why it is important to people: Give the audience a brief glimpse at what you are talking about (maybe some background info they need to best understand your topic).
C. Concluding statement to the public about the importance of your social/ecomomic/political issue.
Simulation Time ScheduleEach group will have approximately twenty minutes for each
person to give their speech and for the group to give the speaker comments on what they like and learned from their speech.
