Vol. 64, No. 02
Olean Enchanted Mountain Chorus
PRESENTS
MAY WE DELIVER A SINGING VALENTINE FOR YOU?
A Barbershop Quartet will come to any location in the eastern Cattaraugus County NY, western Allegany
County NY, and northern McKean County PA on Valentine’s Day and sing two (2) love songs to a person of
your choice. We will also present her (or him) with a long stem red rose and an unforgettable memory for $40!
(Special delivery requests may be discussed)
CALL: 716-372-4885
It is that time of year again! Time to spread the word about our Singing Valentine’s program everywhere you
go. This program, as you know, is the second largest fundraiser that we do each year with our show being the
first.. This helps our chapter maintain enough funds to cover the preparations for the annual fall show, provide
music to all members and portions go to Youth in Harmony programs among other things as well.
You will be provided with posters to help spread the word and boost our sales. Please put up posters in your
area that you think will be the most visible for our potential customers. Leave one around every place you visit
in the next couple of weeks. Ask everyone you meet if they have thought about their gift yet. Chances are they
will say no and then you may provide them with the perfect gift, a personalized Singing Valentine!

Our 65th Anniversary show will be October 15th, 2011. The
board needs ideas and suggestions from everyone as to how to make this celebration more special. All ideas, not matter how small, will be appreciated,
The board will be reviewing the show budget past and projected forward to find ways of streamlining the costs.
Our chorus is looking to do another “We Sing To Feed Them All” show on May 14th, 2011.
Mike Nichols and the Jamestown Chorus will be hosting the Allegany Division Show and it will be May 21st, 2011 in Westfield, NY. Plans are still underway but there will be a couple of rehearsals, probably in Jamestown.
Learning Tracks Available Soon Below is the list of the show songs for 2011. As you can see 2 are repeat
songs from the last two shows, and five are new, although one is a repeat
from about eight or nine years ago. Learning tracks should soon be
completed for “Yona from Arizona” and then Ted will be able to put
together a learning CD for those who request one. The board decided
that each member will need to follow these two conditions to receive a
CD.
1) You must request it. You can tell Ted when you see him although
it would be best to give him a note rather than just mention it
during rehearsal, or better than that send him an e-mail, or phone
him.
2) Each CD will cost $3.00.
The reason for pre-ordering the CD is so that Ted does not waste his valuable time
recording CD’s that won’t be used, and the reason for the three dollar cost is to cover
the expense of royalty fees and CD’s, jackets etc. (At three bucks it is a bargain!)

A NEW LOOK TO CHARITABLE GIVING
Many great ideas came out of COTS this year and one idea that was shared was a way to enhance the 50/50 drawings with a new twist. It is a “marble draw”. The idea is that one half of the share will go to a food bank charity for “We sing to Feed Them All” project and the other share for the member will build each week until the green marble is drawn out of a pool of 49 white marbles. Let me start from the beginning though;
1) 49 white marbles and 1 green marble is put into a
sack.
2) The 50/50 tickets will be sold as usual
3) The winner of the 50/50 wins a chance to draw one marble out of the sack.
4) If the winner draws a white marble the monies stay in the “pot”.
5) If the winner pulls the green marble out of the sack they are the winner of the “pot” (This may take one night or may take 48 weeks). The tension builds as well as the “pot”.
6) The marbles are NOT put back into the sack until after someone draws the green marble and wins the “pot”. Then the cycle begins again.
7) You may buy as many tickets for the 50/50 as you wish and remember that half of that money is for charity.
8) The winner of the 50/50 draw for that night is also given the opportunity to direct the last song of the evening.
Pole Cat Program is back!
As part of a renewed meeting program, we are reviving the Pole Cat certification program. Time will be given at each rehearsal to “qualify” for a voice part for each of the Pole Cat songs. Once you have shown a proficiency of each song in one part (or many if you choose) you will be signed off for that song. When you have completed all twelve Pole Cats songs you will receive a Pole Cat pin. If you do not wish to try and “qualify” it is still a great chance to quartet!
Allegheny Division Show Announced!
Each year in May, the Allegheny Division puts on our show with invited singers from all of our 13 member choruses and it is hosted throughout the Division. This year the Jamestown NY chapter would like to present, Music Man, this year's theme for the Allegheny Division show. We will be performing selections from, Meredith Wilson's, “Music Man” for the grand finale! The show will take place in Westfield, NY at the Westfield Academy and Central School on Saturday, May 14th, 2011 As an added twist to this year's event, the Jamestown Chapter has invited Westfield Academy & Central school's, “Ape Men,” a 20 -30 voice young men's chorus and their counterpart, “Fire Crackers,” a 20 – 30 voice young women's choir to perform on the show. The Westfield Community Choir will also join us for the Music Man finale numbers. Would any of you like to sing with a hundred or so mass choir? Looking forward to performing for a large audience? Division Choruses and Quartets are encouraged to register as soon as possible to [email protected] so that performance space can be set aside! Space may be limited. As a Mass choir, we will perform, “Goodnight Ladies – Pick a Little, Talk a Little Medley” and “Lida Rose – Dream of Now Medley.” The men will also be performing two other pieces from the Music Man. The Jamestown NY chapter will be donating their portion of the proceeds to the Westfield High School Music Department so we hope you will come and enjoy the fun! Help us introduce “Barbershop Harmony” to a new group of people and be part of a wonderful musical experience. More details to follow...
