Philippine power bargescorrect viscosity and temperature, if costly breakdowns are tobe prevented.

The design of the ALCAPsystem cleans and conditionsthe oil automatically, withoutthe need for constant attention, even if the quality of the incoming oil changes. The result is areliable system that enablesoutput to be maintained andkeeps the Philippine's new industries happy.

Alfa Laval Power has suppliedessential fuel conditioningequipment to vital power bargeprojects in the Phillipines. Thegrowth in the popularity ofpower barges in the region hashelped transform the economyof the country and changed thelifestyle of the local population.

The East Asia Power Corporation (EAPC), has commissioned and installed two powerbarges, moored in Manila Bay,that now supply power to theLuzon Grid. The engines thatdevelop that power are protected from contamination byAlfa Laval's now famous ALCAPseparators.

The engines run on heavyfuel oil that is supplied from aseparate storage barge mooredalongside and it is vital that theengines receive clean fuel, at the

Measuring the quantity ofsulphur dioxide in an environment which is protected bySonoxcarb Filter requires themost sophisticated measuringtechnology and this is a facilitywhich is readily supplied by thecompany. Post filtration andspace S02 monitoring has takenplace in a number of locationswhere the Sonoxcarb Filter hasbeen installed, including theNational Gallery, Tate Galleryand British Museum. An off-the-shelf computersoftware program was usedby BT to model the fluid dynamics of cooling air, identifying the optimum coolingdesign and exchange unit layouts. Following this, a completemock-up exchange was builtat BT's test facility to refinethe final design and providepractical confirmation of thenew ventilation system capability.Inte1filta (UK) Ltd, RossendaleRoad Trading Estate, FarringtonRoad, Burnley BBll 5SY, UKTel: +44 1282 413131,fax: +441282416875.

A new system developed byBritish Telecom for cooling itslatest telephone exchangesuses mechanical ventilationunits with Interfilta air filters, rather than full refrigerantbased air conditioning. Thehigher air flows involved meanthat effective filtration of inletair is critical in preventing dustbuild-up on the sensitive electronic circuitry used in theexchanges.

As well as lower expectedenergy costs, capital costs forcooling a typical 25 000 lineexchange have been reduced byapproximately 50%.

Emcel Filters Ltd, the UK basedspecialist air-purification filtercompany, has successfully completed a prestigious contract toprovide the British Libnuy with25 banks of its renowned Sonoxcarb activated carbon filters.
