UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSThe title of University Scholar is awarded to the top one percent of the student body at UT Arlington eachyear. The academic colleges, schools and departments are asked to nominate students who exemplifyacademic excellence within their discipline or major. It is the sole purview of each academic unit to determinehow excellence is defined within their particular field of study.

Some of the outstanding scholars were selected based on their research activities. These students may havewon awards or competitions on a regional or national level. Several of the students were chosen because theyparticipated in projects related to their major that involved peer review outside the University. Other studentswere nominated because they met rigorous requirements for membership in national honorary societiesrelated to their academic discipline or because they received scholarships to continue their studies. And othersdemonstrated excellence by earning exceptionally high grade point averages while at the University and willgraduate with academic honors. Finally, some students have been recognized on a University-wide basis suchas those selected to engage in research via the McNair Scholars Program, which develops future faculty frompopulations traditionally underrepresented in graduate study.

Regardless of the reason for selection, the University is proud to honor these University Scholars. They trulyexemplify academic excellence.
