  • VP Technical Report By Nicholas Hipp

Good day everyone! The next presentation is on May 1st and it will be an interesting presentation by Karl Wiegand with Globe Fire Sprinkler Corporation about “Wet Sprinklers 101”. This one-hour presenta-tion will explore the basic components of a wet sprinkler system, hazard classifications, valving types, and general wet sprinkler design ideas. In April we had a very interesting discussing about Roof Drains from Craig Froeter at Froet. He was an excellent speaker. We went over why ponding can occur on the roofs, where some of the codes that pertain to roof drains are located, what issues to look for in designing roof drain systems and also how to size roof drains.. If anyone is still needing their CEU, PDH or PEU for any of the previous meetings please reach out to me and I will provide you with the certificate. If you wish to receive a certificate for this meeting and you are not a member or in the ASPE database please provide your e-mail address on the sign-in sheet provided and one will be emailed to you. Respectfully submitted:

  • Vice President Legislative Report By Paul Hellickson

Hello St. Louis, ASPE Members: Something very interesting was brought to my attention recently that comes out of the 2015 International Energy Code. I have not had the time to delve deep into all its mean-ings, but it is related to the hot water topic that I wrote about in my previous newsletters. SECTION C404 – SERVICE WATER HEATING (MANDATORY)

  • My interpretation and others that I have spoken to is that when attempting to comply with this section of the code, the distance between your “heated source” (water heater, circulated wa-ter system or heat traced system) must be no more than 2-feet for a 1/2" hot water supply pip-ing to a public lavatory faucet. Now many of us may not going be looking at the IEC but this is an item that will have to be considered when designing our systems. That said – it is not clear who will actually be en-forcing this. What is also not clear is exactly what is meant by “termination of fixture supply”, is the termination point at the faucet or is it the point where you are stubbing thru the wall? As always – check with your local municipality to see which codes they are enforcing. If you have other interpretations or thoughts on this please shoot me an e-mail and let’s discuss it. Lastly – St. Louis County has issued the following Industry notice regarding a redution in plumbing plan reviews. Click on the following link for more information.
