2018 Wilson Family History Tour "A Dedication Ceremony for Our Enslaved Ancestors"

Where: Barker House on the Barker Plantation, 1785 Barker Road, Henderson, North Carolina

When: Saturday, July 7, 2018 (departing promptly at 11:30am)

Arrival Time: 11:00am to 11:30am (departing Roses promptly at 11:30am)

Family members interested in traveling with the group, please meet at the following location:

Roses Store, 714 Granville Street, Oxford, North Carolina 27565 (Roses sits behind the KFC, Taco Bell and Cookout at the intersection of Industry Drive and Granville Street)

**Family members who have not arrived by 11:30am can travel on their own to the Barker House**

Note: There will not be a tour bus this year. We can ride together in our personal vehicles which will reduce the number of vehicles having to drive to the plantation. This year’s tour will include a dedication ceremony to all of the people who were once enslaved on the Barker Plantation. The names of the enslaved will be placed on a memorial stone in remembrance of their arduous and laborious works on the Barker plantation.

Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee - Freedom Flame Awards Gala

On Saturday, March 3, 2018, Rev. Dr. Willie F. Wilson was inducted into the Selma Civil Rights Historic Museum of Social Justice, in Selma, Alabama. The induction of persons noted for their work in the struggle for justice, fairness and equality for African-Americans is done each year by the Norman Pettus Jubilee Foundation, an organization established 54 years ago to commemorate the march across the Norman Pettus Bridge that resulted in the passage of the historic Voting Rights Bill of 1965. Inducted along with Rev. Willie F. Wilson was, Rev. Jessie Jackson, Dick Gregory (posthumously), and churches in Selma that helped to organize the march.

It was a high honor for our past family reunion president, but even a higher honor that so many Wilson family members came to Selma to witness his induction. A great honor - for a great family!!
