FALL IS IN THE AIR

It’s October and our Annual Exhibition is just around thecorner. I know many MWS members spent a few days atthe Florida Watercolor Convention up in Deerfield Beach. Ihope you were able to make it because “Inspiration” wasthere. If you have never been to a FWS convention, youmissed something great, 2 days of shopping and art. Howcan it get any better? Congratulations to our president,

Diane Lary!

Her painting "Sax Sleep Shallot" will

be part of the Transparent Watercolor

of America 2014 exhibition !

The painting "Waiting of You" by MWS member Jorge Leon, was an award winner at the WITVA 2014 Exhibition, at the Coral Springs Museum of Art. Congratulations, Jorge!

At our Sept. Meeting Deborah Starbucks, a painter of large wall

murals, gave us an in depth understanding of those grand murals you

see in fine hotel lobbies and highways. Many of the problems we run

into with more traditional sizes of paper have the same issues. Great

info for giving depth to landscapes and design.

Carol Carter received her MFA from Washington University, St. Louis. VotedBest St. Louis Artist by The Riverfront Times in 2000. In 2002 her work waschosen for the cover of New American Painting Magazine and in 2003, the USEmbassy sponsored a solo exhibition of her work at the Teatro del Centro deArte, in Guayaquil, Ecuador.Ms. Carter has been a visiting artist in Oslo and Stavanger, Norway, in 1999,2001, and 2003. The Schmidt Art Center in Belleville, IL held a solo exhibition in2006 and was invited to be in the National Watercolor Biennial at ParklandCollege in February. She was the featured artist in the Her story Invitational atSWIC in Granite in Valdosta, GA. Additionally, Different Strokes, by QuartroPublishing, in London, England is featuring her work. Her paintings contain duality: clarity and ambiguity; sanctuary and threat;pleasure and pain. The use of vibrant, saturated-color contributes to thetension between these extremes. Her work is mysterious, seductive, intense, and inviting.
