Slacklining is a new concept that has become popular throughout colleges across the US. By definition slacklining is an act of balancing on a narrow piece of webbing stretched between two points (usually trees). Students are attracted to the activity because of the focus, concentration and relaxed feelings that are created.

What is it?The Big Deal is the largest gathering of UNA students during Pride Week. The

Office of Student Engagement, Sodexo, ROTC and the University Program Council want you to have the time of your life! Come and enjoy Dinner on the Lawn, the DJ, and of course, lots of FREE food and prizes.

Student organizations and local vendors will be in attendance to give away infor-mation and major prizes. Listerhill will be giving away a FREE car!

In case of rain, The Big Deal will be moved to the GUC Banquet Halls and Atrium.

When is it?

Alternative Breaks and UPC will be showing a movie on the amphitheater lawn on Friday, August 23rd at 8:30pm. The first 100 students to show up for the movie will receive a free UNA blanket. In the case of rain, the movie will be shown in the GUC Performance Center.

Where is it?Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

When is it?

This is a mandatory event for at least three members of every Recognized Student Organization to attend in order to be trained in several areas including diversity, student allocation training, etc. RSOs must register for the event through the ‘forms’ link at www.una.edu/student-engagement. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m., with the conference beginning at 9 a.m. Students must be present the whole time to get credit for attending.

What is it?UNA is hosting the first Toga Run 5K on Saturday, August 24th. The 3.1 miles

will kick off at Norton Auditorium. The fee to race is $5 for UNA students and $10 for community members and all proceeds will benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Shoals. Come dressed in your best toga and ready to race!

NPHC does not participate in recruitment. They will have NPHC Convocation which serves as a general interest meeting for the 6 organizations of the council. Students learn the requirements of what it takes to join all chapters at this event.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

Sept. 3 through 7 (Deadline to register is Sept. 3.)When is it?

IFC Recruitment is September 3-7 and it is free to attend. Men will meet all 7 chapters and learn about each one. On the final day, men who attend could poten-tially receive an invitation to join a fraternity.
