We Are Responsible to Choose the Right

Our Heavenly Father will not force us to do right.He gives us freedom to choose for ourselves between right and wrong and to be responsible for keeping the promises we make.

He knows that only by having freedom to choose for ourselves can we grow and learn.

•Each item is in a paper sack.

•You will be accountable for the item in the bag.

•You will be responsible to take care of that item until the end of class.

•How do you take care of the item in your bag?

•Will the person with the candy, please stand up…

•I want you to share the candy with the entire class after the closing prayer. Your responsibility is to take care of the candy until it is time to share it.

•Could this person choose to eat it rather that share it?

•The person could choose to disobey the teacher and eat it rather than save it to share.

•This person could choose what to do but would be held accountable for that choice.

•This is similar to life.

•Heavenly Father’s plan gives us choices.

•We may choose: - right or wrong. - wisely or foolishly.

•Yet, we are responsible for our choices and the results.

The Anit-Nephi-Lehi’s Chose the Right

A group of people in the Book of Mormon had a very difficult choice to make and they decided to choose the right.

Ammon was a missionary who explained the teachings of Jesus Christ to King Lamoni, a Lamanite king.

Using the scriptures, Ammon taught King Lamoni aboutthe Creation, Adam, and Jesus Christ.

King Lamoni believed Ammon and prayed to be forgiven of his sins. King Lamoni believed these teachings and became converted to the gospel.

King Lamoni taught his people about God & Jesus Christ. Those who believed repented of their sins & were baptized.

Thousands of Lamanites repented and joined the Church.

The Lamanites who joined the Church called themselves Anti-Nephi-Lehies. They were good, hardworking people.

The Lamanites who did not repent were angry with the people of Ammon and prepared to fight them.

They had repented of killing.

The people of Ammon knew that the wicked Lamanites would come to kill them but decided not to fight back.

They buried their weapons deep in the ground & promised God they would never kill again.

When the wicked Lamanites came & began killing them, they bowed to the ground & prayed.

Seeing that the people of Ammon would not fight back, many of the wicked Lamanites stopped killing them.

The Lamanites were sorry that they had killed. They threw down their weapons & they would not fight anymore.

More Lamanites came to kill them. They still would not fight back; many were killed.

Ammon prayed for help. The Lord told him to take his people & leave the land.

The Nephites in Zarahemla gave Ammon and his people the land of Jershon and protected them. They became friends.

1.What choice did the Anti-Nephi- Lehies make?

They chose not to kill anymore and to bury their swords in the ground.

2. Why did they do it?

They made a covenant or promise with God never to kill again.

At the Age of 8, We Become Accountable to Heavenly Father

Accountable means that we are responsible for what we do.When you turn 8, you are accountable.If you are not 8, you can practice being accountable by:

- helping parents- keeping good promises

to others
