In this task, you are going to plan 2 different days out/trips for the Easter Holidays. You need to decide the following for both of your trips –

1. Where you are going.

Primary 7 Weekly Home Learning Grid for School Closures W/B 30/03/2020 Below are lots of links to resources and activities, some of which you can download from Twinkl. Twinkl is available to parents for Home learning purposes for free by using this code: UKTWINKLHELPS

The letter is the first letter that an evacuee is writing home so you should include information about the journey, being chosen, details about where they are living and their experiences so far.

1. Research – you need to gain an understanding of what evacuees experienced and the kind of things they wrote about in their letters. The following links contain letters written by evacuees in WW2 – www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/53/a1130653.shtml www.bbc.co.uk/history/ww2peopleswar/stories/58/a4989658.shtml or/and you can watch the following series of videos which we have been watching in class. There are 8 in the series. This is the first one, but you will then be able to find the others from this one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRt5Mk6V8Gg You can do further research yourself if you think you need to.

2. Plan what you are going to write – Make notes about what you are going to include in the letter. Things to think about are-

• the experiences you are going to write about

• the feelings of the evacuee

• questions that the evacuee would ask about parents’ lives/home

3. Write the letter. Remember to use-

• the correct layout/structure

• make it logical/flow, using connective words and phrases to link ideas together

• make sure the information is accurate for the task

Read chapters 1-3 (pages 1-18) and complete the task map shared at the end of this document. Remember that starred tasks are for everyone to complete, and then you can choose your own tasks to complete after that.

2. How you are going to travel (you may need more than one form of transport) – no cars allowed.

3. When you are going to leave home (day and time).

4. When you want to arrive home. On your plan you should show the following –

• Time left home,

• time taken to get to transport (perhaps walking),

• transport taken and time on/off and duration of journey for each one

• what you do at your location including arrival/leaving times and durations for each of the things you do

• journey back (transport and times) and durations.

An example is at the end of the grid. You can complete it as 12 or 24 hour time. Write/draw both of your plans/schedules in your Maths jotter. Be as adventurous as you can! Share your plans with your family, taking them through each of your plans and explaining them. Extension – create further plans if you wish for other days in your holiday. Or use the gameboard 64 after the examples

• ensure the reader understands how the evacuee is feeling and use vocabulary (WOW words/phrases) to help you achieve this.

on this learning grid to create interesting means of transport and work out time/distance/speed info from a real map.

Spelling Talking and Listening Social Studies L.I- To identify and use common spelling patterns to accurately spell familiar words. Success Criteria:

• Identify number of phonic sounds in a word

• Identify number of syllables in a word

• Identify parts of word that do not sound as they appear

L.I- - To organise information in a logical, sequential and structured manner when presenting, using notes if required. - Speaks confidently, clearly, fluently, expressively and audibly and uses eye contact. Success Criteria:

• The presentation is logical, in sequence, is well-structured and the content is relevant.

• The presenter/talker’s voice is clear, shows good fluency, is loud enough to be heard and they don’t talk too quickly.

• The presenter/talker uses eye contact regularly in the presentation to engage the listener. Uses notes to prompt themselves about what they are talking about (if needed).

L.I- To investigate and understand how women’s lives in Britain were changed by the events of WW2 Success Criteria:

• Be able to make a comparison of women’s lives before, during and after the war

• Identify roles of women in the war

• Understand features of propaganda posters and create one of your own

Activity and Resources Activity and Resources Activity and Resources This week’s word list features ‘ph’ sounds. The list can be found at the bottom of this learning grid. Choose 20 words from the list that you find reasonably challenging. Try to find other common elements of spelling rules within the words, such as double consonants and magic e. Practise your words as we normally would in class using your jotter. Once you have copied and practiced the lists, get someone at home to quiz you on your list.

You have gathered information about the Clydebank Blitz from the video clips on your last grid. You now need to organise these notes into a presentation to deliver to your family. The presentation needs to be structured (think about how you would write a factual report to help you) – Introduction (when, what, where, why, who – briefly covered)

Access and download the files below – there are a lot in the folder, but don’t panic. What you should do is open the PowerPoint (in slideshow mode if possible) and consider the questions it asks you throughout. There are three main tasks for you to complete.

Primary 7 Weekly Home Learning Grid for School Closures W/B 30/03/2020 Below are lots of links to resources and activities, some of which you can download from Twinkl. Twinkl is available to parents for Home learning purposes for free by using this code: UKTWINKLHELPS

Word building – choose ten words and create extensions of these words using common prefixes and suffixes. Check this list with someone else to make sure it is accurate.

Middle (expand/add detail on the above, in particularly what happened and why) Conclusion (sum up what you have been talking about) The presentation needs to be logical and in order – use the sequence of events as they happened over the 2 days of the Blitz to help you achieve this. Remember to use notes in your presentation (if you need them), don’t read off a sheet of paper. If you are going to use a powerpoint then the same applies -don’t just read off it. Use it to convey information but add more detail about each slide from what you have learned. Once you have completed it, practice it to make sure you are clear about what you are saying and it will help your fluency. Finally, present it to your family. Remember to talk clearly, slowly and loud enough and use eye contact. Hope they enjoy it!

1. There is a document called The Role of Women Pre and Post WWII – this is a grid for you to fill in using information from the PowerPoint

2. There are two documents to be used together to explore various jobs for women – these are called Offer of Employment Letters and Activity Sheet Job Descriptions.

3. Design a propaganda poster. You may want to use Activity Sheet Propaganda Poster for this, or you could use a blank page in a jotter or ICT software if you prefer.

Health and Wellbeing Expressive Arts (Art/Music/Drama) RME, Science, Technology L.I- To use active strategies to manage change in life by creating a daily/weekly timetable for home learning. Success Criteria:

• Create a balanced and manageable range of activities

• Allow time for unexpected events or challenge

• Monitor progress and make adjustments

L.I – To identify popular dances from throughout the 20th Century and use them as inspiration to create a sequence to suitable music. Success Criteria:

• Be able to explain origins and influence on the specific dance

• Follow steps in sequence

• Match new steps to a rhythm and number of steps

L.I- I can use my design skills to solve problems and construct models using a variety of materials, recognising the basic properties of these materials and their effectiveness in my design.

Success Criteria:

• Suitable materials are selected for the task.

• Different methods are used to join materials to create strength.

• Use equipment safely to create the design.

• The design is recognisable as an Anderson Shelter.

Activity and Resources Activity and Resources Activity and Resources To help to work and play in a healthy balance at home, we are suggesting you spend some time to consider what will be a suitable balance for your day. You can work with others at home to help you decide on what will be a manageable structure for your days – how much work will you include and at what times, when you will take exercise and when you will make time to help others.

Access the files on Twinkl linked below and use the PowerPoint file to read about the 1950s period, learn about some popular entertainment from the time, and learn the moves for a popular dance. There is a vimeo video link to learn the steps, but you will need to copy and paste it into your internet browser rather than clicking on it.

This task is to create a model of an Anderson Shelter using materials you find in your home (the recycling bin is a good place to start). Once it is constructed, you are going to test the model for the following so keep this in mind during construction –

Primary 7 Weekly Home Learning Grid for School Closures W/B 30/03/2020 Below are lots of links to resources and activities, some of which you can download from Twinkl. Twinkl is available to parents for Home learning purposes for free by using this code: UKTWINKLHELPS

Your goal will then be to see how well you can stick to this timetable and improve upon it as you go through the week. Feel free to share tips with the class in Teams – we know a lot of people are joining Joe Wicks for a daily PE lesson for example.

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/cfe-c-1962-blank-editable-timetable

Get someone at home to learn the steps with you (or from you) and explore how the steps fit with different pieces of music. Try the following songs as a starting point:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIozjNOgrm8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj0Rz-uP4Mk When you have a good understanding of the steps, plan out your own version of a similar dance, paying attention to rhythm and making a repeatable sequence. Feel free to record your efforts and share on the P7 Teams platforms! https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t4-pe-3-dancing-through-the-decades-lesson-1-the-1950s

• Waterproof – by pouring some water over it.

• Strength – it can withstand a 250g weight ( or items that weigh this amount) being placed on top of it.

• Size – it has space for 4 lego people – if you don’t have any, imagine the space they would need.

Challenge – make your model to scale if you wish. How to complete the task -

1. Research – find out what an Anderson Shelter looks like, is made from, how it was constructed, its size etc

Primary 7 Weekly Home Learning Grid for School Closures W/B 30/03/2020 Below are lots of links to resources and activities, some of which you can download from Twinkl. Twinkl is available to parents for Home learning purposes for free by using this code: UKTWINKLHELPS

39 × 247 225 × 300 2. Make a sketch of your

model (remember it needs to look like an Anderson Shelter)– label it with the materials that you are going to use to make the different parts of your model and remember the test you will be doing.

3. Collect the materials you need.

4. Create the model – think about how to use different ways to join the materials together to make it waterproof/strong.

5. Test the model.

Hello P7. This learning grid is a bit fuller as it is your first full week of learning at home. We want to emphasise again – do not stress out about any task or completing the whole thing if it isn’t possible. Many of these tasks could be completed over the longer period of the Easter holidays, too. If anyone has not been using their Office 365 to stay in contact with the class using email or Teams, do come and join in – it’s nice to stay connected as a class. If anyone is not sure how to do so, you have our email addresses below for help.

[email protected] [email protected]

Activity and Resources 1. Revise your numbers to 20. Make sure you know how to say

and read them in French. The following video may help. www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7xq6q9WASQ

2. Learn how to say/read numbers up to 69. The rule is that the tens digit changes and the ones/unit is the same as the number from 1 to 9 e.g. 23 is vingt (20) trois (3); 52 is cinquante (50) deux (2). Remember to use et when saying a number with 1 e.g. 31 – trente et un. The video below point 3 will help.

3. Learn how to say/read numbers between 70 and 100. See the information at the end of the grid to help you learn how to say 70, 80 and 90 and then how to add the units/ones. The following video will help. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMhVQ-apf8E

4. Now go to the following website and practice what

you have learned www.french-games.net Chose level – beginners or intermediate; Select numbers; select numbers to 100.

5. Work with a partner. Ask them to say a number in French

and you write it down in digits on a white board. Swap – you say the number in French and they write it down.

Extra: Create a game that uses numbers to 100. Play it with your family

Send photos of your work and successes to [email protected] to be loaded onto our school website.
