Hello Ladybird Class! What a lot of birthdays this week! A shout out to all of you. We hope you all had a wonderful day x Thank you for sharing all your amazing work last week I loved the paint brushes you made and the art work you created with them. This week we are going to be learning what an insect is. We are also going to be going over our previous learning of time. We shall be learning some new tricky words and having a go at reading some longer words. Remember to just do your best and show us the work on Seesaw. Ms Rowlands and I are thinking of you lots. Take care and be good.

Measures (Time)(Remember all children are at different stages in their learning)

Today we are going to revisit our learning of time. You may still have your clock you made from a few weeks ago. If not perhaps you could get creative and make a paper/card clock.

Using your clock we are going to revisit and practise making o’clock times. Can you remember where the long hand always goes when it is o’clock? Yes at the top at number 12. Can you now practise making your clock say different o’clock times? Perhaps your grown-up could make a time on your clock and you could read the time to them.Repeat this with half past times. We are going to revisit and practise making half past times. Yes it points to the bottom. Number 6! Can you now practise making your clock say different half past times? Perhaps your grown-up could make a time on your clock and you could read the time to them.Or……You could set different times on a clock through this website:https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock

Don’t forget to buy your snack today, it’s 10p or 24p(I would like your child to work independently with

their snack money so you choose a price that is best suited)

You will need these coins to make 10p four different ways:Ten 1p coinsFive 2p coinsTwo 5p coinsOne 10p coin

You will need these coins to make 24p four different ways:Eight 1p coinsFour 2p coinsSix 5p coinsThree 10p coinsOne 20p coin

Introduction of tricky words: there, likeAction for ‘there’: Using right palm down wiggle fingers.https://bslsignbank.ucl.ac.uk/dictionary/words/there-3.htmlRemember you can hear the ‘th’ part of the word it is the ‘ere’ that is tricky!Action for ‘like’: Move your flat hand palm towards your chest in a circular movement.https://bslsignbank.ucl.ac.uk/dictionary/words/like-1.htmlRemember you can hear the ‘l k’ part of the word it is the ‘i and e’ that is tricky! (Split digraph).

Can you draw the letters th, e, r, e onto individual pieces of paper/card or if you have magnetic letters use them. Put the letters in the correct order read the word ‘there’ now muddle the letters up and then rearrange to the word ‘there’. Perhaps to make more difficult create five more th,e,r,e cards. How quickly can you make the 6 there words? Repeat with the word like. With cards l,i,k,e.

Perhaps you could play the game BANG! To help you recognise the tricky words. How to play: First create flash cards with the tricky words on. Also make five cards with the word bang on. Put the words into a container.1. Players take turns reaching into the container and pulling out a flashcard. If they can read the word aloud correctly, they get to keep the card. If the player is incorrect, the card goes back into the container.2. Continue taking turns, reading and collecting correctly answered cards.3. If you pull out a BANG! card, you must put your whole pile of cards back into the container! (It's a great way to keep the game exciting and level the playing field. Even if a grown- up or an older sibling could correctly read all the words, all they have to do is pull out a bang card and they're back down to zero.) At the end of a specified length of time, whoever has the most cards is the winner!Tips:Sometimes if it's just two of you playing I'll purposely pull out a card, hold it up and read it incorrectly. Children love to catch me making a mistake and it helps them to really pay attention even when it's not their turn.

Introduction of tricky word: little

Action for ‘little’: Pretend to hold something small using your thumb and first finger.https://bslsignbank.ucl.ac.uk/dictionary/words/little-2.html

Today let’s use some chalk to write the word ‘little’. Encourage your child to use a wet paintbrush to trace over the top to turn the chalk into a painted word.Repeat several times. Extension: encourage your child to chalk the word out.

Remember you can hear the ‘littl’ part of the word it is the ‘e’ that is tricking us!

Measures (Time)(Remember all children are at different stages in their learning)

Today we are going to revisit and recap our previous two days of learning using your clock or this website:https://www.topmarks.co.uk/time/teaching-clock

If your child is confident with telling and making o’clock and half past times you could perhaps move onto quarter past times. The long hand always goes on the number 3 when it is quarter past time. Please make the quarter past times on the clock for your child to read to you. Then once they are confident with this, you can encourage them to make the times.

Don’t forget to buy your snack today, it’s 13p or 28p(I would like your child to work independently with

Creative Development.

Today your Creative Development will link to your Fine/Gross Motor Skills.

Paper Plate Ring Toss Game

Today I would like you to combine the making and playing of my take on a traditional ring toss game. This game works well for those who are throwing close range, but if you wanted the rings to be thrown from a further distance either layer and glue several plates together or wrap them in something like string or twine to weight them.

You will need: Paper plates or card to cut into shapes.Paint, felt pens or similarScissorsA long cardboard tube (from cling wrap, paper towel etc...)sticky tape

Cut the centre from some paper plates to use as your 'rings'.

To make the stand cut slits in the bottom of the cardboard tube and flattened the ends, then tape it to the reverse side of a plate so it will stand up.

I can’t wait to see your beautifully decorated hoops!

Today I would like you to play ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’What you need

a clockActivityParent to be Mr Wolf, who then stands at one end of the garden or room.Your child stands at the other end.Mr Wolf turns his back to commence play. The players call out, "What's the time Mr Wolf?" and Mr Wolf/you answers with a time (i.e. 3 o’clock) your child then makes it on their clock and takes 3 paces forward towards Mr Wolf/you. Your child repeats the chant "What's the time Mr Wolf?" To which Mr Wolf/you will continue to respond until your child comes very close.Once your child is close to ‘Mr Wolf’, you can respond to the chant with "It's dinner time!" at which point, he will chase the player/s back to the starting line with the aim to catch one of the them, who will then become Mr Wolf for the next round of the game.
