Friday 28th August saw the opening night to a full audi-ence of the FOOTLOOSE MU-SICAL in Dar es Salaam at the Little Theatre performed by the Dar es Salaam Players.Directors, Tina Sutton & Rho-na Potgieter, brought togeth-er phenomenal talent from teenagers to adult cast. Jayce Kaiser was fabulous in the lead role of Ren McCormack, a city boy forced to move and live in the little hick town of Bomont where dancing is il-legal!

Ren meets the fiery minister’s daughter Ariel, played by Ju-lia van Geldern and together they bring dancing and life back to Bomont.

Gary Page played hapless Willard who was pursued and won by the hilari-ous Rusty, played by Courtenay Sutton. Their on stage dynamics brought the house down.

The whole cast are to be congratulated for their professional performance of a brilliantly moving, emotional and energetic show. Bravo!

Eat Out eat WellLOUNGE BAR & RESTAURANT

1st Floor Shoppers Plaza, Old Bagamoyo Road, Mikochen

By Jesca Kimambo

Eating healthy while eating out is all about one word: preparation. If you go into a res-taurant cold, without any thought, you’ll be

more susceptible to the creamy, the fatty and the gooey before you can prepare your defenses. Give yourself a chance by giving yourself options.

Go to the restaurant’s website to find a menu and study it. Decide what you want to eat before you leave the house. Is this a chicken night or are you craving pasta? If possible, choose a specific menu item so you’re not tempted by the menu at the restaurant.

Make reservations. This cuts down on waiting and hunger time at the restaurant, as well as the num-ber of drinks you have at the bar.

While making reservations, check on preparation methods and their ability and willingness to ac-commodate your requests. Learn what options you have and what substitution choices are available.

Try to reserve a table away from the kitchen so piles of delectable dishes aren’t paraded by as you’re deciding what to eat.

Know what you can afford to spend out of your calorie budget – but don’t starve yourself, it’ll only court temptation.

Don’t leave the house hungry. About 1-2 hours before eating, have a small, healthy snack (apple, small salad) to avoid pre-meal munching later.

Bring along some whole wheat or crackers and packets of your favorite low-calories salad dressings. Don’t count on the restaurant to always have the ones you like.

Avoid “all-you-can-eat” places.

Choose a place with a varied menu. It’ll make it easier to find something healthy and to your taste.

Don’t decide to eat out on the spur of the moment, if possible. It’s best to make plans and account for it during the rest of the day’s menu planning.

Fish restaurants and restaurants with extensive salad bars usually have healthy options

As beauty professionals, we are well aware about the transformative

power of the right haircut and color, and though we’re not plastic surgeons, the right look on the right client can literally take years off their appearance.

One of my favorite clients never tells me what she wants, she simply says, “Make me look youthful!” That’s a smart woman right there. Being flexible and willing to change our look as we age is an impor-tant factor.

Most people aren’t even aware of how much better they can look and feel with the right cut, and it’s our jobs to steer them in the right direction. So what are the most common factors that can add or subtract years from our cli-ent’s appearance?

Bang Up Job

Bangs are an incredibly easy way to take years off the face at any age. I have one client who calls her monthly bang trims her “Botox session”, as the fringe hides the lines on her forehead and really does make her look a lot younger.

Bangs are also a great way to draw the eye upward, drawing attention away from trouble spots like the neck and chin, and highlighting areas like the eyes and cheekbones.

HOW TO ESTABLISH HEALTHY EATING BEHAVIOUR FOR FAMILY

By Jesca KimamboNew research shows that offering children a small, tangible, non-food reward for trying new vegetables makes children more will-ing to try and learn to like new foods. Non-food reward ideas in-clude stickers, an extra bedtime story, or extra verbal praise and hugs.Offer a variety of foods, especially vegetables, fruits, and items made with whole grains. Don’t give up! Continue to offer oppor-tunities to taste new foods! Kids may need repeated exposures up to 30-50 times before they accept a new food.

Set a health goal at the beginning of the week with the kids. Let them help choose the idea. Use the Super Crew Colorful food tracker to get kids interested in eating at least 4 colors of foods each day.! Use a “don’t yuck my yum” rule. Don’t allow the use of negative words to describe food. let kids describe why they don’t like the food — is it too bitter? Does it have a strange consistency? This will get kids really thinking about the foods as they eat.

Turn off the TV and sit with your children during meal times! One study found that children who watched more TV and ate fewer family meals were more likely to be overweight..

Don’t force your children to finish everything on their plates. This helps create an anxiety-free environment for them to enjoy their food. Let your children learn to recognize their hunger cues and express their satiety.

Make a meal together with your kids. Try your best to relax and let them experiment. Don’t stress about the mess!

Serengeti National Park is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its nat-ural beauty with more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thomson’s gazelle, and a quarter of a

million zebra.

The name ‘Serengeti’ comes from the Maasai language and appropriately means an ‘extended place’. The National Park, with an area of 12,950 square kilometres, is as big as Northern Ireland. A unique combination of diverse habitats enables it to support more than 30 species of large herbivores and nearly 500 species of birds.

Heading north into the Park, the grass becomes noticeably longer, and it is usual to see Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles, as well as the occasional small groups of topi and kongoni. Ostriches and secretary birds stalk the grass, while families of warthog often scurry away.

Cheeky hyraxes and lizards play on the rocks and a profusion of birds - superb starlings, lilac-breasted rollers, barbets and ring-necked doves to name but a few - fill the air with their songs. Giraffes nibble the tender leaves of the thorny acacias, buffalo lumber along, and all manner of game - Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, impala, topi and kongoni - graze nervously. At night the soaring cough of the leopard and the whooping laugh of the hyena interrupt the incessant ticking of the ci-cadas. Also there are famous black-maned lions of Seronera.

The riverine wood along its banks supports many black and white colobus monkeys while exceptionally large crocodiles take to its waters. In open clearings and on hills, a herd of roan antelope or Patterson’s eland sometimes appear. To the north, the landscape gradually becomes more hilly and wooded. Damaged trees show that this is becoming elephant country, while buffalo, zebra, giraffe and gazelles abound.

THE TRANSPORTER REFUELED STARTS 11TH SEPTEMBER CENTURY CINEMAXFrank Martin, played by newcomer Ed Skrein, a former special-ops mercenary, is now living a less perilous life - or so he thinks - transporting classified packages for questionable people.

When Frank’s father (Ray Stevenson) pays him a visit in the south of France, their father-son bonding weekend takes a turn for the worse when Frank is engaged by a cunning femme-fatale, Anna (Loan Chabanol), and her three se-ductive sidekicks to orchestrate the bank heist of the century.

Frank must use his covert expertise and knowledge of fast cars, fast driving and fast women to outrun a sinister Russian kingpin, and worse than that, he is thrust into a dangerous game of chess with a team of gorgeous women out for revenge.

From the producers of LUCY and the TAKEN trilogy, THE TRANSPORTER REFU-ELED is a fresh personification of the iconic role of Frank Martin, that launches the high-octane franchise into the present-day and introduces it to the next generation of thrill-seekers

THE RIGHT MIX: YOUTH STUDY REVEALS THE MUSIC THAT MAKES EAST AFRICA YOUTH ONE.

By Godfrey MnyanyiHolla is a regular Consumer Insight’s study on youth of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda conducted since 2002. Most outstanding of these findings, is the resurgence of local music.

In the face of strong international competi-tion, the study found that local stars are still able to hold their ground. Because listening to music is the most important free-time activity for more than half (54%) of youth in the region, listening to FM radio stations is also important at 35% meaning that stations that deliver the right mix are guaranteed to grow listenership. Those that throw in music requests into their mix will keep 41% of Ke-nyan, 53% of Ugandan and 35% of Tanzanian youth tuned in as well.

Another shared-value revealed by the study was the desire amongst youth across the region for a comfortable (materialistic) life-style. Of note was the level to which Kenya’s youth actively sought sources of money - as

indicated by the 47% who joined savings groups (‘chamas’), in contrast with the 16% average for the region (10% in Uganda and 12% in Tanzania).

Internet usage, the study found, was fairly consistent across the region. Mo-bile phone is the default option for access in Uganda (79%), Tanzania (79%) and Kenya (91%). The most common sites visited by Overall, the youth of East Africa are seen to share common attitudes, preferences and experi-ences, with one or more unique characteristics marking each country out. “Can shared values overcome these differences, and create unity in the long term?” is the big riddle for leaders, brand marketers and citizens of all three countries.CONSUMER [email protected]

Africa’s low-cost airline Fastjet PLC (fastjet), has recently announced that it has gone into a lease operation with SMBC Aviation Capital Limited (SMBC), a global aircraft leasing company, for the acquisition of an additional Airbus A319 aircraft.

The air carrier indicates that the new aircraft which is meant to be the fifth in the com-pany’s fleet, started commercial services on 1st September, 2015 covering the route Dar es Salaam - Johannesburg.

By doing this, fastjet raised the frequency of the route from three per week to daily trips in order to expand the company’s network in the region.

Fastjet’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ed Winter, explained in a statement that the company decided to start fleet’s expansion since it reached the maximum utilization of the existing Tanzanian fleet.

According to fastjet’s website, the company carried in July the highest number of passen-gers since its inception in 2012 totaling 71,763 up from 65,216 recorded in June and by over 3,600 passengers against the previous record of April 2015.

July also marked a 36% increase on the number of passengers carried in the same month in 2014, explained mainly by the commencement of flights to Malawi and Mwanza from Dar es Salaam.
