PRIME Introduction

PRIME stands for PoweRline Intelligent Metering Evolution:

It is a communications protocol used for Smart

Grid and Smart Metering

mainly to support massive meter reading &management.

It is a Power Line Communications (PLC) technology.

Originally defined OSI layers 1 & 2.

It was designed as a future-proof solution:

State-of-the-art.

Economies of scale (open, interoperable).

RFQ released in January 2012, for 1 mill ion PRIME meters to be deployed throughFebruary 2013

>16 meter manufacturers participated in this competitive RFQ, 7 awarded.

Current deployments are in line with IBERDROLA plan to deploy 11 million smart metersby 2018 in Spain.

Iberdrola customers basis is higher than 30 Million
