Frustrated Keegansays Newcastle not

good enough NEWCASTLE (England), 20 Jan —

Kevin Keegan said he had endured afrustrating first match back as Newcas-tle United manager on Saturday after histeam were held to a 0-0 draw by BoltonWanderers in the Premier League.

"We certainly didn't play as well aswe can or I thought we would, but thereare a lot of reasons for that," Keegan saidin his first post-match news conferencefollowing his return to the job after an11-year absence from St James' Park.

"We played a match on Wednesdayin the FA Cup with 10 men for 60minutes. We looked a bit tired today, that's my first excuse, but its an honestone," he said referring to their 4-1 homewin over Stoke City in a third roundreplay.

Keegan also said he had picked ateam from the bare bones available, withnine players missing for various rea-sons. "Players are away at the AfricanCup of Nations, three were suspended,Joey Barton cannot play because of hiscircumstances and (striker) Mark Vidukapulled a calf muscle yesterday."

MELBOURNE, 19 Jan — AmericanAndy Roddick lost his cool and hischance of a first Australian Open titlewhen he was beaten by German 29thseed Philipp Kohlschreiber in a Fridaynight third-round thriller.

In a match that finished just after2.00am, the sixth seed went down6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-7, 8-6 to an inspiredKohlschreiber, who handed Roddickhis earliest exit from the event sincehis debut in 2002.

Roddick banged down a career-best 42 aces but still came out secondbest with Kohlschreiber, who enteredthe tournament with a career-highranking of 27, outplaying him in everyother department.

When the American saved four

match points at 4-5 in the final set —three of them with huge aces — itlooked as if he would dig his way outof trouble.

But Kohlschreiber would not be de-nied and a forehand wide gave himvictory and a place in the fourth round, equalling his previous best grand-slam performance.

"The whole match, the whole gamefor me was perfect I think today,"Kohlschreiber told reporters.

Asked about his match points, headded: "I wasn't thinking to finish thematch. I had no chance with the matchpoints. He served three aces in a row.

"At the end, the last game was justlike amazing shots."
