This year’s theme is Everyone Belongs. I am pleased to say at Engadine West PS, students show great respect for individual difference, acknowledging everyone has a different story to tell. Next Thursday students are invited to wear an orange accessory in addition to their normal school uniform as a sign that we acknowledge everyone belongs at our school. Staff Professional Learning On Wednesday Mr Metliss presented at a White Ribbon forum, supported by Mr Herne, Mr Griggs, Mr Fleming, Mr Edwards and me. The forum was held in our school library and was attended by representatives from 15 schools, primary and high schools and facilitated by two White Ribbon ambassadors. Lots of interesting ideas were shared. At Engadine West PS our White Ribbon focus is on respectful relationships for everyone - students, staff and families. The team has some great ideas for activities later in the year. Our wonderful Kindergarten teachers are busily engaged in a literacy program called L3, focussing on explicit teaching in literacy for Kindergarten students. Teachers are absent from their classrooms from time to time on a Friday morning, deepening their knowledge on this subject and learning about new resources to support student learning. School Disco Tonight’s the night. I love a good disco. Thankyou in advance to parents for supporting this P&C fundraiser, the many parent volunteers who make the event happen, to the teachers who help supervise and enjoy busting a move with the students, and to DJ Metliss for spinning the decks. Can’t wait! Student Leadership by the River I am looking forward to accompanying our captains, vice captains and prefects to a special leadership activity at Club Menai next Monday. These student leaders have been busily preparing a presentation for the day - all on their own. Very mature, responsible and creative. Class visits I have had the pleasure of spending time in a number of classrooms over the past few weeks. The students with whom I have spoken have a clear understanding of what is expected of them in their learning and what they need to do to progress. This means teaching is explicit, high expectations are established and students are up to the learning challenge. Thankyou to 4S and 1W for having me. Sue Roach Principal

Dear parents/carers

Harmony Day

Next Thursday is Harmony Day.

School Disco

Tonight’s the night. I love a good disco. Thankyou in advance to parents for supporting this P&C fundraiser, the many parent volunteers who make the event happen, to the teachers who help supervise and enjoy busting a move with the students, and to DJ Metliss for spinning the decks. Can’t wait!

Dates for Your Diary

The Engadine West PS street libraries have been extremely well received and very popular. They are located just outside the library and provide all students and parents/carers with the opportunity of taking a book home to enjoy. Donations of pre-loved, good quality books (suitable for both libraries) would be greatly appreciated so the supply of books can be regenerated. Margaret Evans and Janet Evans Teacher Librarians

Payments

Student Statement of Accounts have been emailed to parents/carers. Payments may be made by cash, cheque, eftpos at the school office, via the link on the Statement of Account emailed to you or online via the Engadine West PS website by clicking on the ‘Make a Payment’ tab. Please do not use this portal for P&C payments, please use Flexischools for these. Do not hesitate to contact the office if you would like to discuss your account or require assistance. We ask that a Groove Nation permission slip be completed for each student and returned to their class teacher. A copy of this note and permission slip can also be found on the school website under the ‘Notes and Forms’ tab. Whilst the school contribution is voluntary, these funds are utilised to supplement the government funding per student. These contributions are used for additional programs, educational resources and building improvements. If you wish to contribute to the building fund, please indicate this by supplying a name for the tax deductible receipt. In 2018 the contributions supplemented upgrading Stage 3 classrooms, addition classroom furniture and air conditioning in some classrooms.
